ToolStrip Item Property Equivalent In VB6
Jul 15, 2009
I did a VB6 to VB.NET conversion and this line wasn't converted. I'm not sure what property to set that would replace Bevel. What could I use? statusBarMain.Items.Item("PercentBar").Bevel = System.Windows.Forms.Border3DStyle.SunkenOuter

I know how to add a item(checkbox) to a toolstrip dynamically, but I want to add a checkbox which is exists in a form. I've tried using the code

My program creates and populates a toolstrip menu at runtime dynamically. I would like my program to break the menu up into a new coloumn after say 40 menu items have been added to the toolstrip so the user doesnt have to do a long continous scroll to reach the bottom (Cascade). From my research i have found out that there is a feature called '.break' or '.breakbar' that allows for this kind of facility however this feature isnt available for toolstrip dropdown menus. Does anyone know of a workaround to allow a toolstrip to have this same functionality?.[code]

I have a tool strip menu item who's collection is filled from a subroutine that loads all available com ports on the computer at for load. I know how to generate a click event for menu items that are filled, but not if they haven't been filled already. I guess it doesn't need to be a click event. It just needs to do something that I can get the .text and use it to configure a serial port.

I have created a search/query facility after watching one of Beth Messi's videos. I notice that we can convert the textboxes on the auto generated search toolstrip to buttons, comboxes, etc. So, when we wanna search for a data in the datagridview, we enter a keyword. I wonder if it is possible to change the textboxes to comboboxes and make it bind to the datasources, so that users can use the drop down, instead of typing?

Is there a VB.net equivalent to the C#:
public string FirstName { get; set; }
I know you can do
Public Property name() As String
Get
Return _name.ToString
[code].....
But I can't seem to google up an answer on a vb shorthand.

I've got a dynamically filled datagrid view. When a user right clicks a cell in the datagridview, it opens a context menu, located by that cell. The context menu has two choices: A and B. I want to set the value of the cell to A if they pick A, and B if they pick B.I would like to pass the relevant cell as a field in the event args passed to ContextMenu's ToolStripItem.click. So the handler for ToolStripItem A's click event would read the relevant cell from the event args and set it to A , like this...
Private Sub A_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As Customized System.EventArgs) Handles A.Click
e.relevantCell.Value=A
End Sub
how to pass a custom event arg. Or if there is some easier way to do this? I can't just use the X and Y coordinates, because the context menu/mouse won't necessary by over the relevant cell.

I have a weird question and I honestly hope you understand what is happening here: I design my form (using VB.NET) and put on it a few textboxes, comboboxes and a listview. After the design, I want to adjust the TabIndexes for each control on the form. On the right-hand side of the interface is the property box.
I then select the 'TabIndex' property item and enter a number key (for instance 0) for that selected item. I then select the next textbox control and enter the next number (for instance 1) WITHOUT re-selecting the 'TabIndex' property item. As soon as I select the combobox or listview control, the currently selected property item jumps to 'Items' or 'Collections' and does NOT remain on the 'TabIndex' property item. Why is this happening? Everything worked fine and all of a sudden this starts happening. Should I reset the editor settings or how can I resolve this matter?

I have a listbox with several list items added. I want that as user click on an item, I should be able to show its property. This should change for different items. For example (hypothetical) : Listbox has numbers 1 - 10. Now when I select 1 I should be able to set property - Name, Lastname, Colour, Age.
When I select 2 I should be able to set - Age, Hair Colour (clr shows), Weight, Date. When I select 3 then - City (combo box drop down), Country, Age only. This way value changes for diff items. One way is to put them in property grid and show them. Though this looks nice but adding/removing items in that is not easy. You need to have a class that refer that to prop grid. Do I have to code for each classes for all values in listbox or is there an easier way to manage items in property grid. If you think prop grid is not the right tool for such an activity then can you suggest something else.

I'm used to webdeveloping, and when I work with databases, I usually use some text for the Text-property of a radio button, and the row's ID as Value-property. This makes it very easy to save to databases.
Is the an equivalent in winforms for the Value-property, or will I have to identify rows based on the text in the control?

I have a simple user control, which is essentially just an AutoCompleteBox with some custom logic.
For a specific instance (a collection of Persons), I want it to look like this:
<sdk:AutoCompleteBox Name="myACB" ItemsSource="{Binding People}" FilterMode="StartsWith" MinimumPrefixLength="2" ValueMemberBinding={Binding LastName}>
[Code].....
I want the DisplayMember property to be the property name to display for whatever kind of custom collection (persons, cars, etc) I have bound to the AutoCompleteBox.
I don't think I can modify the datatemplate programmatically. Is there a way I can do this with binding (relative source)?

I'd normally do this in C# but since I've got to get this code in this particular assembly which is a vb.net one, I'm stuck.
Here's my linq query:
Dim i As Integer = 0
Dim oldAndCurrentIntersectionOnNames = From currentApplicant In currentApplicants _
Group Join oldApplicant In oldApplicants _
[CODE]...
You'll see the .Index = i+=1
This was my attempt to do what I'd quite happily do in C# (i.e. Index = i++) in VB. Unfortunately the VB compiler doesn't like that. how I'd do this in VB.

I really want to make use of the toolstrip and databinding but these two technologies keep conflicting with each other. I think the root cause is something to with the fact that the toolstrip buttons don't recieve focus in the normal way.
I invite you to try the following:-
1. Create a form and put some text boxes a tool strip with a save button on it.
2. Write a query or sproc to get a datatable back and bind your text boxes to the field in the datatable.
3. In the code behind your Save ToolStripButton put some code that makes an arbitrary change to a field on the dataset (it doesn't matter whther this field is bound to a text box or not). eg:-
m_DataTable.Rows(0).Item("CommissionRatePerc") = "0.0000"
4. Put a breakpoint in the save and run the form.
5. Make some changes in the text boxes. Do not leave the last text box but rather click save while a text box whose contents you have edited still has focus.
6. When your code hits the breakpoint, query the value of the data table field that is bound to the text box you were editing when you clicked save - it will still contain the unedited value. Unless you do something about it that unedited value is going to get saved back to your DB.
We did get around this problem by explicetely setting the focus to another control on the form before saving. That worked most of the time because it prompts the text box to flush it's value back to the datatable (nb EndEdit does not work, although you'd have expected it to). However, and this is the reason I suggested you add a line of code that changed a value in the underlying datatable in step 3, if you change a value in code in this way before the value from the text box get's flushed back then it doesn't seem to matter what you do, the user's current edit is simply lost. They will still show in the text box, though, leading your user to believe that the change has been committed when it hasn't. Our final solution is that we never ever change a value in the adtaset in the code behind our toolstrip buttons. That's working but it's a pretty big restriction.

I have created a dropdownlist which I choose wizard way to fill data in it. and its property like:
DataTextField=Item
DataValueField=ItemCode
I go to properties of this dropdownlist and then I add Items property as the following:
Enabled=true
Selected=false
Text=---choose---
Value=-1
And the code behind is that:
dim strItem as string= ddlItem.selectedItems.text
if ddlItem.selectedItems.text.trim="---choose---" then
Label1. text=" You haven't choosen any items yet!"
exit sub
else
Label1. text=" You have choose"
end if
But when I start debugging this:
strItem always gets "---choose---" text eventhough I choosed other items.

Using a plugin architecture, i created a Form Class that holds the Mdi Form. it has menustrip, toolstrip and statusstrip.
child forms are created as class and are loaded into the Mdi Form at runtime.
using interface, i was able to execute subs and functions of a child in the Mdi Form and vice versa.
now i need to change property values.. to be exact, i need to change the enabled property of the toolstrip buttons depending on which child form is activated using the form_activated event of the child form.
the problem i now have is how to change the property of the toolstrip item in the Mdi Form.. should i be using interface on this as well by creating subs in the interface and have the Mdi Form implement this interface?
