View 3 RepliesI know how to add a item(checkbox) to a toolstrip dynamically, but I want to add a checkbox which is exists in a form. I've tried using the code
[Code]...
but this makes the already existing checkbox, go to the top left of screen and when the toolstrip is click it appears. So I want to add the checkbox to the menu, without going to top left corner,
I want to make my webbrowser navigate to the clicked toolstrip item's text. for example:
Private Sub HistoryToolStripMenuItem_DropDownItemClicked(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItemClickedEventArgs) Handles HistoryToolStripMenuItem.DropDownItemClicked
[Code]......
I did a VB6 to VB.NET conversion and this line wasn't converted. I'm not sure what property to set that would replace Bevel. What could I use? statusBarMain.Items.Item("PercentBar").Bevel = System.Windows.Forms.Border3DStyle.SunkenOuter
View 2 RepliesI have a tool strip menu item who's collection is filled from a subroutine that loads all available com ports on the computer at for load. I know how to generate a click event for menu items that are filled, but not if they haven't been filled already. I guess it doesn't need to be a click event. It just needs to do something that I can get the .text and use it to configure a serial port.
View 6 RepliesI have created a search/query facility after watching one of Beth Messi's videos. I notice that we can convert the textboxes on the auto generated search toolstrip to buttons, comboxes, etc. So, when we wanna search for a data in the datagridview, we enter a keyword. I wonder if it is possible to change the textboxes to comboboxes and make it bind to the datasources, so that users can use the drop down, instead of typing?
View 6 RepliesI've got a dynamically filled datagrid view. When a user right clicks a cell in the datagridview, it opens a context menu, located by that cell. The context menu has two choices: A and B. I want to set the value of the cell to A if they pick A, and B if they pick B.I would like to pass the relevant cell as a field in the event args passed to ContextMenu's ToolStripItem.click. So the handler for ToolStripItem A's click event would read the relevant cell from the event args and set it to A , like this...
Private Sub A_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As Customized System.EventArgs) Handles A.Click
e.relevantCell.Value=A
End Sub
how to pass a custom event arg. Or if there is some easier way to do this? I can't just use the X and Y coordinates, because the context menu/mouse won't necessary by over the relevant cell.
I really want to make use of the toolstrip and databinding but these two technologies keep conflicting with each other. I think the root cause is something to with the fact that the toolstrip buttons don't recieve focus in the normal way.
I invite you to try the following:-
1. Create a form and put some text boxes a tool strip with a save button on it.
2. Write a query or sproc to get a datatable back and bind your text boxes to the field in the datatable.
3. In the code behind your Save ToolStripButton put some code that makes an arbitrary change to a field on the dataset (it doesn't matter whther this field is bound to a text box or not). eg:-
m_DataTable.Rows(0).Item("CommissionRatePerc") = "0.0000"
4. Put a breakpoint in the save and run the form.
5. Make some changes in the text boxes. Do not leave the last text box but rather click save while a text box whose contents you have edited still has focus.
6. When your code hits the breakpoint, query the value of the data table field that is bound to the text box you were editing when you clicked save - it will still contain the unedited value. Unless you do something about it that unedited value is going to get saved back to your DB.
We did get around this problem by explicetely setting the focus to another control on the form before saving. That worked most of the time because it prompts the text box to flush it's value back to the datatable (nb EndEdit does not work, although you'd have expected it to). However, and this is the reason I suggested you add a line of code that changed a value in the underlying datatable in step 3, if you change a value in code in this way before the value from the text box get's flushed back then it doesn't seem to matter what you do, the user's current edit is simply lost. They will still show in the text box, though, leading your user to believe that the change has been committed when it hasn't. Our final solution is that we never ever change a value in the adtaset in the code behind our toolstrip buttons. That's working but it's a pretty big restriction.
Regarding my college project. i'm working on a sales system . i have a form which consist of all the following information( item code , item name , item price , quantity of item ) which is display using a data grid . data input by user using text box and all this information will be stored in a database(sales database) i'm using ms access 2007. the grand total will be displayed in a text box . and amount paid will be input in a text box too , my major problem now is how to i create a reciept that will have all this information of the purcase. i have a reciept button . what the next step ? i dont have any idea how to get the reciept done.

View 4 RepliesI would like to add the properties "visible" and "enabled" to the Items object of a combobox in VB .Net so that I can hide or disable individual line items of the combobox. I have created the class "CustomListItem" that inherits the combobox.objectcollection. I have also created the class "CustomComboBox". Now, I would like to override the custombox.Items object with my custom one.

View 1 RepliesI am using the following code to load an ArrayList with an object. [code]I don't know how to retrieve the object from the ArrayList using the Item property. I am using the following withOUT Success. The code is searching the arraylist for a match on serial number. Values(2) is correct and is working fine - the problem is purely getting the object information from the arraylist.[code]How do I pull the propertys back from the object in the arraylist to compare the values with Values(2)?
View 2 RepliesI'm creating an editable ListBox control, where the user can double-click an item to edit it. When double-clicked, I simply overlay a TextBox over the item, so the user can change the text and then commit it by pressing Enter or leaving the TextBox. The 'commit' is simply this:[code]where 'editingIndex' is the index of the item being edited, and 'textBox' is the TextBox object. If the ListBox contains strings, this works just fine. The item being edited is replaced by the textbox Text string. However, if the ListBox contains some other object (let's say a custom class), this is a problem! It still "works", in that it still sets the text of the item, but the item is no longer an instance of that custom class! It is now a String, and all other information about the item is lost. So, I really want to let the user be able to change the text representation of ANY object, without replacing the object with a string. Obviously, I cannot know how the object displays its text (well, by the ToString function of course, but I cannot know what the ToString function returns). Now, I am having a few ideas how to approach this, but none really work the way I want. I am pretty sure that I'm going to have to provide some kind of event that the user has to handle. I'm thinking something like this:
- When the item edit is committed, an event is raised
- This event contains the Item being edited (as an object, the user has to cast it himself), and the new text of the item.-
- The user handles this event, and assigns the new text to the correct property.
For the Person class, this could look something like this.My ListBox should raise this event, and assign the new item like this.[code]I think this should work (although I haven't tested it), but there's one problem with this approach:When the items are just strings, the user still needs to implement this event handler, while he shouldn't have to (I can simply assign the new text string to the item). So, if the user is simply using strings, he still needs to do this for every instance of my listbox:[code]So what I'm really looking for is a way so that I can implement the default behavior (for String items), and still allow the user to override this behavior if he is not using strings.I may be overlookihe obvious solution here, but I can't figure it out... Overriding is done when you inherit a class, but the user isn't going to inherit my custom listbox (well he CAN, but he shouldn't have to). He is just going to handle the event. And if he doesn't handle the event, my listbox uses the default implementation.

View 1 RepliesI'm having problem regarding session items. Before I use them, I want to check if they exists, but using this codes gives me error:[code]I think Session("SomeSessionItem") tries to acquire the value of the session item. If the item doesn't exists then it throws exception. But how do I check if a session item exists before using them? I have a page Home.aspx.In the Home.aspx.vb, I instantiate a WebUserControl SomeControl.ascx. Note that in Home.aspx.vb event handler Page_Load I can use a condition to check session without getting an exception.Inside SomeControl.ascx.vb I'm trying to access the session, here's where the exception occurs.
View 5 RepliesIn my application, I've built an object that communicates with an OPC server and whenever the value of a certain OPC item changes, it logs all the OPC items to a database. This all works beautifully. However, I'm having a problem with disposing of the instances of this class. Whenever I want to remove an instance of this class from the application, I'm dereferencing the object (objDevice = Nothing) and letting GC take care of the rest. I've inserted breakpoints and am monitoring to ensure that the object is dereferenced (it is).
Problem is, even after the object has been dereferenced and is CONFIRMED to be equal to Nothing, the object is still logging data to the database. I'm still trying to get a handle on disposing of objects properly, but most everything I read tells me to dereference and let Garbage Collection take over.
I have a list box on the form which functions as a copy/paste. When you copy something, it is automatically added to the list box as a "clipboard helper". Here is the problem, however: if the text is more than 1 line, the list box does not show all the text.It ends up looking messy. So getting back to my question, is it possible to make the list box item height for an item depending on the amount of lines that item contains? This is a one line sentence in the list box and should take up one line. This is a multi line sentence in the list box and should take up two lines for item height.

View 18 RepliesIs it possible to compare 2 dataitems and then display the result depending on the 2 values using if eval at run time?I have a ListView with databound controls. 1 is RedemptionChoice and the 2 is CashBack. When 1 reads "0" and 2 reads > 0.00 the output should read AUTO I have read many comments online and most point to create a new function within code behind but have found it impossible to implement on my own.I tried this as a test on the actual page:
<%# If(Eval("CashBackRedemptionChoice").Equals("0") & Eval("[CashBack]").Equals("0.00"), "Auto Cashback"))%>
2 needs to be greater than 0.00 for AUTO to be displayed. Hence I know this would not work. Just trying to give an example of what I would like.
I am somewhat new to object oriented programming and am attempting to flatten a Linq object hierarchy by using a shim class.how to initalize a derived class with property values from a base class?I have two objects, a base object with about 100 properties, and a derived object which inherits from the base object and adds a few additional properties beyond those of the base object. My simple constructor creates the derived object, but I am looking for a way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object.Right now I am using reflection to iterate over the properties individually and I suspect there may be a better way. The following example shows my shim class constructor for the derived class, and two properties:
newProperty1 - a new string property of the derived class
flattenedProperty2 - a new string property of the derived class, copied from a 2nd-level object of the base class
Code example:
Public Class derivedObj
Inherits baseObj
Private _newProperty1 As String[code].......
Is this the correct constructor approach to flatten the object hierarchy using a shim class? My second question relates to initialization of properties in the derived class. The constructor above creates the derived object, but what is the best way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object? The following code uses reflection to iterate over the properties individually, but I suspect there may be a better way.
Code example:
' property names are in the string array fieldNames
'baseObjQuery is an ienumerable of baseObj
'derivedObjList is a list of derivedObj[code].....
Is there a simple way to initialize values for the properties in the derived object based upon the values of the common properties in the base object?

View 1 RepliesI have an MDI container with a ToolStrip. I ran into a naming issue with images/icons. I removed the lines of code referring to the image of the buttons in the MDIForm.Designer.VB file. Then, in the actual designer, I imported the image file as a project resource and added this image to each button.
When I view the MDI form in the designer, the buttons appear normally, but when I run the app, the buttons are not there!
Should i have not edited the designer.vb file directly? Can this be fixed without recreating each button?
