I know how to generate a click event for menu items that are filled, but not if they haven't been filled already. I guess it doesn't need to be a click event. It just needs to do something that I can get the .text and use it to configure a serial port.

I notice that we can convert the textboxes on the auto generated search toolstrip to buttons, comboxes, etc. So, when we wanna search for a data in the datagridview, we enter a keyword. how to pass a custom event arg. Or if there is some easier way to do this? I can't just use the X and Y coordinates, because the context menu/mouse won't necessary by over the relevant cell.

I have a problem regarding listview control in asp.net and vb.net. I'm developing a web based application wherein the user will search for a topic and the search results will be displayed and bind in a listview. There's a link in a listview where users can click to view a file.I want to get the selected value of each item in a listview after the user clicked the link.
View 2 RepliesI really want to make use of the toolstrip and databinding but these two technologies keep conflicting with each other. I think the root cause is something to with the fact that the toolstrip buttons don't recieve focus in the normal way.
I invite you to try the following:-
1. Create a form and put some text boxes a tool strip with a save button on it.
2. Write a query or sproc to get a datatable back and bind your text boxes to the field in the datatable.
3. In the code behind your Save ToolStripButton put some code that makes an arbitrary change to a field on the dataset (it doesn't matter whther this field is bound to a text box or not). eg:-
m_DataTable.Rows(0).Item("CommissionRatePerc") = "0.0000"
4. Put a breakpoint in the save and run the form.
5. Make some changes in the text boxes. Do not leave the last text box but rather click save while a text box whose contents you have edited still has focus.
6. When your code hits the breakpoint, query the value of the data table field that is bound to the text box you were editing when you clicked save - it will still contain the unedited value. Unless you do something about it that unedited value is going to get saved back to your DB.
We did get around this problem by explicetely setting the focus to another control on the form before saving. That worked most of the time because it prompts the text box to flush it's value back to the datatable (nb EndEdit does not work, although you'd have expected it to). However, and this is the reason I suggested you add a line of code that changed a value in the underlying datatable in step 3, if you change a value in code in this way before the value from the text box get's flushed back then it doesn't seem to matter what you do, the user's current edit is simply lost. They will still show in the text box, though, leading your user to believe that the change has been committed when it hasn't. Our final solution is that we never ever change a value in the adtaset in the code behind our toolstrip buttons. That's working but it's a pretty big restriction.
Also want it to load in the users default web browser if possible. I'm working on a little app for a small community online radio station and want to have a menu in the menu strip for the stations website, twitter profile and facebook profile. I'm new to VB and haven't figured out what I need to input for the click settings.

Another area i am now stuggling with is navigating through records one at a time using a database. I am making a quiz and I want the form to populate one row at a time. When Next button is pressed/called, I want to the next row to populate the form, so on and so forth.Problem is I don't really know how to do that.

I want to use these buttons to navigate the rows of the recordset.However, I have problem in the codes - when I click the PREVIOUS button, it will tell me that either EOF is true. But if I click the NEXT button, it moves to the next record once.... Clicking on NEXT again, does not move to the next record..

I have a list box on the form which functions as a copy/paste. When you copy something, it is automatically added to the list box as a "clipboard helper". Here is the problem,however: if the text is more than 1 line, the list box does not show all the text.It ends up looking messy.So getting back to my question, is it possible to make the list box item height for an item depending on the amount of lines that item contains?This is a one line sentence in the list box and should take up one line.This is a multi line sentence in the list box and should take up two lines for item height.

in a timer and that sometime ended up with error and sometime the browser shows a blank screen and keep on refreshing and other times it shows an error and the application stop responding.
It has come to my attention even as a novice programmer, that there comes a time when you need to step it up a notch and take my programming to another level. For me I think that time has finally come in trying to learn how to use classes properly.
I suspect this is a common rookie fear and the leap to move out of the Form1 Class, or off Form1 is a daunting one. I learned how to add new forms many years ago and to get them to interact with one another in a crude manor, but never really mastered the whole concept of classes.

I am developing an intranet site using VB.net 2005. I have a list of reports and their URL's located in a table. The list is displayed to the user using a Gridview control with select turned on. when the user selects one , the selected index changed event triggers looking up the URL from the table and stores it in a session variable. the problem i have is that i now need to open a new web browser window and display the page.
I tried using the envDTE.ItemOperations.Navigate but all of the information provided for this process is written in VB6 and VB2003. In 2005 the DTE proces is not native and when you assigned the ENVDTE.Itemoperatiosn to a shared variable (or any type) and
then try to navigate you get the following error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
so i tried to create an instance but when i try:
ItemOp = DTE.ItemOperations or
ItemOp = EnvDTE.ItemOperations
it gives me an error indicating that this is not possible. My quesion is, does anyone have the correct syntax for using the envDTE.ItemOperations.Navigate instruction from Visual Basic.Net 2005? None of the microsoft pages or microsoft books provide correct syntax. Or does anyone have any substitute code that can navigate a user from a protected sub in one page to a new web page?
