I have found that i can add some resources as images and i could use them using my.resources.now i want to know how can i use the same way to save something to a text file in the resources and then load the saved text.

MSDN only discusses strings, images, audio, etc.. but does not cover text files.
I have a text file with about 6k lines of short strings, each on its own line, added to my project's resources and I'm trying to .add each line to a collection. I've tried about 7 or 8 things, not all using StreamReader, but I can't find documentation on this anywhere.
Here is the last thing I tried:

I just can't find the equivalent to this that reads lines from a text file out of my.resources.
I'm having a problem where instead of reading a text file from the location string, I changed it to read the text file from the resource location and it breaks my program. I've also used the insert snippet method to get most of this code, so it is safe to say I don't know what is going on. [code]

View 13 RepliesI'm having some trouble using resource files. In my project I'm using a bunch of bitmap files and two txt files. Bitmaps are used as backgrounds for controls, but .txt files I want to open in Notepad or WordPad. Till now I was accesing them from a file path on my machine:
ControlName.backgroundimage = New Bitmap(direcorypath & "/Map.bmp")
Process.Start(direcorypath & "/Instrukcje.txt")
And it worked fine. Now I added these files to my resources (it's practical for me to have them in executable file) And replaced those lines with:
ControlName.backgroundimage = New Bitmap(MyProject.My.Resources.Map)
Process.Start(MyProject.My.Resources.Instrukcje)
For bitmap it works fine, but for txt file an error occurs saying that a file cannot be found.
Interestin thing is: when I type "MyProject.My.Resources.Instrukcje" in "Watch" it shows the content of the file. So it is there, only not as a file?
in resources there is a text file with items like number 1

When I use "C:UsersGeoffrey van WykDocumentsCountdown_Timer_Help.rtf" as the argument of FileName, it works. But when I use My.Resources.Countdown_Timer_Help, it says it cannot find the file.

If a translation does not exist for the language, the default language is used.I recently received the task of reviewing some problems with the translation. Some text is in the default language, some not. Why it has not been translated is not always obvious, as there are cases when the resource files are not used, or have not been translated. I would love to be able to see what is the case without having to check the code.
View 1 RepliesI am witting an app that will generate batch files to do an unattended installation of a share point 2007 farm. I already have a batch file I use and it's pretty big. I copied and pasted the content into my application, and I'm using the System.IO.StreamWriter to write to the batch file from the winform. [code]As you can probably guess, I'm doing all of this in my mainform code window. There are maybe 3 or 4 batch files that will be generated based on the selections made on the form. For example, I'm generating a batch file to create the OU, Group and service accounts the farm will use in active directory, I'm creating a batch file for all of the variables that will be used for the additional batch files created, etc. How can I split this up? is there a way to create the batch files without having to actually copy, paste my existing batch file content into the mainform code window? I'm using file.writeline on each line of the pasted content by the way.

my error is ' Read ' is not a member of 'system Array'. i have change the program name to Myprogram i have added myprogram.exe and then the 'exe' is not a member of 'system array'
So in VB.NET I created a resource file called "source.txt" (as its a text file). My program will take in the text in the file, and then compile it into an executable.

View 1 RepliesFor the last two days or so, I've been trying to get a program to compile another program that will extract a series of files and run them in a given order, like a self extracting zip archive.The program compiles fine and compiles sub programs, but I am unable to go about correctly embedding the resources.The output program shows the large amount of data ( ~12mb from the file I've been embedding to test ), and there are no compile errors.However, I cannot get it to access the resources correctly. It will either result in a compile error about the resource image not being valid / containing any resources, or a friendly "System.Resources.MissingManifestResourceException" being thrown.

I am going to be making a program where you can click on the buttons to download a file to the desktop. I will be having .swf files inside the resources and I need them to be downloaded onto the desktop by clicking a button. Dose anyone know the code, I looked on Google but then it just started going downhill.
