Is it possible to copy a file from the application's resources to a directory? If so, I want the file "system.dat", that i added to the resources to be copied to lets say: My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory + "system.dat" when i press button1.
How do I do that?
My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile(
My.Resources.system,
My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory + "system.dat")
But it gave an error "Value of type '1-dimensional array of Byte' cannot be converted to 'String'."

I am making a VB.NET application linked to a database. when you press the button 'generate' it is writes (fairly simple) webpages to a folder in your destkop. what I tried was adding a build-in uploader to my website, but my host didn't supported that. ok, not that big of a deal, and completely out of context but now let's get to the core of my problem;
I wanted to have an image in the resources (none made yet) and have it copied out the resources and placed along with the webpages (to use it as background image). I have tried a lot (clearly not everything or it would work) but I just don't manage to solve this. the problem is I need to be able to do this, since I want to have my .accdb in the resources to, so that it copies out when used an writes (an updated version) back to the resources and deletes the external file. but I never seem to manage to do this. I tried to read,write and other things it with IO and everything, just getting the message that it cannot be read. but I never seem to find how to copy/move it outside the program. the code I am using now looks like this:
Imports System.Reflection
Imports System.IO 'this is for the writing of the .HTML files
Imports System
Public Class webGenerator

I have a font in my programm resources that I wanna copy on form load to windows fonts I tried (my.computer.filesystem.filecopy) but i get this error (cant convert binary to string)
View 11 RepliesI'm calling a 3rd part app which 'sometimes' works in VB.NET (it's a self-hosted WCF). But sometimes the 3rd party app will hang forever, so I've added a 90-second timer to it. Problem is, how do I know if the thing timed out?
Code looks like this:
Dim MyProcess as System.Diagnostics.Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(MyInfo)
MyProcess.WaitForExit(90000)
What I'd like to do is something like this
If MyProcess.ExceededTimeout Then
MyFunction = False
Else
MyFunction = True
End If
Before I begin I would like to mention that I am not a noob in VB, it's just I've never had to do anything this complex before.Basically what I want is to have a program that you can load a txt file in, have it copy key words, and paste it in a textbox so I can use it later on.So in this text file, there is a bunch of info, but I am only needing a certain part.Here is an example of a text file (actually a .dat file, but is easily read):
s t y l e T h e m e d s h y - A l p i n e V i l l a g e S e t S t y l e & h y - a v p o s t 1 H a n g 3 , V ¯s t y l e T h e m e d s h y - A l p i n e V i l l a g e S e t S t y l e , y - a v p o s t 1 H

what I need is a code to make text box load the text file wich have the same name of selected in combobox for example when user selct : CT-810 in combobox the text file with name: CT-810 must be loaded in the text box and so on for other combobox records
I am trying to write the contents of a listbox to a txt i want included inside my projects installation files (so it wont need admin privileges to change it)The code im using at the minute is
Private Sub Form1_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
'UPDATE TXT FILE AFTER CLOSING
Dim i As Integer[code].....
However it will not populate the file upon closing the program! I get an error, how would i go about populating it correctly,,,
How would you add an exe file to the resources of an application. I want to add an exe to the resources so I can run that application on another machine and then be able to take the file from resources and put it on that computer.

I keep getting this error.Value of type 'String' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of Byte'And another question I had was, How do I get it to open lets say...Open the txt file IN it's own folder?

I have a text file with about 6k lines of short strings, each on its own line, added to my project's resources and I'm trying to .add each line to a collection. I've tried about 7 or 8 things, not all using StreamReader, but I can't find documentation on this anywhere.
Here is the last thing I tried:
Dim JunkStrings As New Collection
Dim sr As StreamReader = New StreamReader(My.Resources.shorts)
Do While sr.Peek() >= 0

I just can't find the equivalent to this that reads lines from a text file out of my.resources.
I'm having a problem where instead of reading a text file from the location string, I changed it to read the text file from the resource location and it breaks my program. I've also used the insert snippet method to get most of this code, so it is safe to say I don't know what is going on. [code]

How would I load a file in the WMP from the projects resources?

I'm trying to create a program that will append a new line of text in a text file embedded in the programs resources.... this is what i've tried:

I'm having some trouble using resource files. In my project I'm using a bunch of bitmap files and two txt files. Bitmaps are used as backgrounds for controls, but .txt files I want to open in Notepad or WordPad. Till now I was accesing them from a file path on my machine:
ControlName.backgroundimage = New Bitmap(direcorypath & "/Map.bmp")
Process.Start(direcorypath & "/Instrukcje.txt")
And it worked fine. Now I added these files to my resources (it's practical for me to have them in executable file) And replaced those lines with:
ControlName.backgroundimage = New Bitmap(MyProject.My.Resources.Map)
Process.Start(MyProject.My.Resources.Instrukcje)
For bitmap it works fine, but for txt file an error occurs saying that a file cannot be found.
Interestin thing is: when I type "MyProject.My.Resources.Instrukcje" in "Watch" it shows the content of the file. So it is there, only not as a file?
in resources there is a text file with items like number 1

I have a text file pwd.txt comma delimited, I added in project resources, now i want to read,edit and insert in text file.
View 1 RepliesCan you not copy files from your resources? [code] I don't get any errors but I do get an exception saying it couldn't find the file. I want to do this other than supplying the directory that it is located on on my computer because I'm not sure it it will work on other peoples computers if i have the path of the file set as "C:UsersMike.Mike-PCDocumentsVisual Studio 2010ProjectsJava IDEJava IDEResourcesCompiler.bat".
View 19 RepliesI have some dialogs in one resource file that I want to copy into another project. I opened the .rc file in the IDE and I can right-click on the dialog I want and I can choose the copy command. But when I right-click in the resource view, whether on the .RC entry or the "Dialog" entry below it, the paste command is disabled. Nor does drag&drop work.
How do I do this in Visual Studio 2010?
Lets assume that I code a DLL in .Net and I've added some items to the project (For example a picture, or an XML file that contains some kind of configuration for the DLL), and I set the "Copy to output directory" to be "Copy Always".
Now, what I wanted is that if I give my compiled DLL with the bunch of files that were added as items to it, then if someone ads a reference to the DLL in his project then on compile it will copy all files and not just the DLL.
Is it even possible (Some kind of configuration on Visual Studio maybe)?
