May 6, 2010Is ist possible to Add or Edit Resources of .Net Applications at Runtime because I want that the User is able to pick a file and that is automatticly added to the Resources so the Application can use that file later on.

I add data into the newly inserted column with the following
da.SelectCommand = New OleDb.OleDbCommand(sql, con)
Dim cb As New OleDb.OleDbCommandBuilder(da)
cb.QuotePrefix = "["

I added a column to the table manually via opening the access database and all the above approaches work for editing data stored in that column. So I believe it is something to do with the fact that the columns are created at run time.

Jan 24, 2012If I have some resources added to a project, such as images or sounds, they are placed in Resources folder. Say I created a new image file with the same name and want to replace the one I added earlier.
Do I have to do this via Projects Properties Resources tab by removing the old one and adding the new one? Or can I simply copy and paste the new file in Windows Explorer into the Resources folder (replacing the old one)? Would it break the project? Does it matter if the project is currently open in Visual Studio?

Sep 22, 2009My app bundles a set of VBScripts (UTF8 text files) into a VB.NET assembly. I used to embed the script code into the classes as String members, but this is proving to be a poor design. I want to include them as resources instead. What's the best way to add resources to the CompilerParams?
What I've got so far (excluding all the error checks):

The CompilerParameters contain fields for EmbeddedResources and LinkedResources, but from the examples I found so far these seem to pertain only to framework resources???
Runtime Classes Similar To System.Resources
Nov 17, 2009I need to generate a class at runtime similar to System.Resources where you can add a resource eg 'picture.bmp' and it immediatelly is accessible as 'System.Resources.picture.bmp'. I presume I need to generate XLM or/and XLSD at design time and then deserialise at runtime but I cant find a reference on how to do this. Specially without knowing the generic class in advance (as 'System.Resources' doesnt know all the resources in advance).

Apr 3, 2011I have an application that gathers data from a SQL database that is used by a 3rd party helpdesk application.My application is pulling out information of the number of hours worked by each engineer for the current and previous 2 months.Also as part of this process, my application works out the target hours for each of those months.
My application has 3 groupboxes whose label is generated at runtime. My application gives the Groupbox1.text the name of the current month, Groupbox2.text the name of the previous month, and Groupbox3.text the name of the month before that (e.g. Mar, Feb, Jan).
What I am trying to do is have 2 text boxes for each month where I can enter the number of engineer holidays taken and the number of public holidays if any. I want to store these values in an XML file, and I guess they need to be stored to match the Groupbox text (i.e. Mar, Feb, Jan).
When the application starts, I need to parse that XML file and re-populate the text boxes with those number of days - BUT if the month has moved on, so that the Groupboxes are now called Apr, Mar, Feb then I want the Mar and Feb data to be loaded, and I want the XML file to be updated so that Apr is added and Jan is removed from it.I want the XML file to keep the current and previous two months figures only.

VS 2010 - Updating Text File And Apply New Info
Feb 16, 2012I am developing an application toolbar to be used with our companys CAD software and I have this portion of it Reading the lines of a text file into various comboboxes and such. However, if there are only 12 lines in the text file when I click a button to update and apply the new information i get an error because the file is already open. I need to figure out how to make sure its closed before WriteAllLines kicks in.

VS 2010 Read INI File At Runtime?
Oct 19, 2011I created an application that I use when deploying packages which allows users to postpone it from running until they are ready. There are two text boxes that contain restart warning messages.
Is there a way I could use an external file such as an INI where I could place a different message? If the app could read the messages in the text file at runtime and place them in the appropriate text box, it could make this app a little more flexible.
As it is now, if managers want the message changed, I have to change it in the source and recompile. That is not a good way of accomplishing the change.

Changing Or Updating App.config At Runtime In Wpf Projects?
Nov 10, 2011How do we overwrite config file at runtime. I have four config files for DEV, TEST, UAT, PROD. Based on user selection I need to overwrite the default config file completely with one of the selection specific config files. These config files not only have appsettings section, but also has complex cutom sections and subelements with lot of attributes. I need to overwrite and refreshsections dynamically at runtime. I know there are so many articles on editing appsettings sections. But I want to completely overwrite the entire file.

Apr 23, 2012Not sure if this is the correct place for this postWhat I am trying to do is update dll's in my application.Using VB with dotnet 2 (Visual Studio 2010)The Project has a number of Dll's one of each department i.e. Sales is sales.dll... Development is development.dll etc....Each dll has classes/User controls which is used and dispose depending on the section within the application.Once work has been completed with a dll, it put in the deployment area, currently another is program launching checks the file verison and updates as required, before the main application lauches, this works. The exe hasn't needed updated for a long time as all the changes are in the dlls.
What i have been looking at is update method for the dll's dymanically, when not in use, when the dll called into use or disposed of.I have looking at LoadLibrary/FreeLibrary and application.domain. I have been reading loads and tried out some of the examples, with a modified to suit. I am just not getting it.
