Copy Reference Resources On Compile?

Oct 29, 2008

Lets assume that I code a DLL in .Net and I've added some items to the project (For example a picture, or an XML file that contains some kind of configuration for the DLL), and I set the "Copy to output directory" to be "Copy Always".

Now, what I wanted is that if I give my compiled DLL with the bunch of files that were added as items to it, then if someone ads a reference to the DLL in his project then on compile it will copy all files and not just the DLL.

Is it even possible (Some kind of configuration on Visual Studio maybe)?

.net - Dispose Of These Unmanged Resources Without Requiring A Reference To Each?

Jun 23, 2009

I have a class bMainframe that manages the connections to 4 different mainframes. It allows for the same underlying unmanaged library to be opened in specific ways and more than one mainframe to be connected to at a time. Each library has its own disposal code for the unmanaged mainframe connection resource. The wrapper also has code that calls the individual mainframe connection's disposal code.

This causes an error if someone's project does not make use of all 4 mainframes, but calls the disposal on the wrapper. (FileLoadException could not load assembly X of the 4 managed mainframes) Since that disposal code checks to see which of the 4 are not nothing/null. Even if nothing/null this is causing .net to try to load the assembly and crash.

Is the disposal code in the outer wrapper helpful or necessary? is there a way to check if the assembly for a type is even loaded that doesn't trigger.net to load the type/assembly?I modified the code below to block the fileloadexception, but I don't believe this is the best way.

Protected Overridable Sub Dispose(ByVal disposing As Boolean)
If Not Me.disposedValue Then
If disposing Then

Move / Copy Image From Resources To Path?

Sep 9, 2010

I'm trying to copy/move (whichever works in the end) a picture from my resources in my program, to the startup path.

However, when i try it, it tells me that the file could not be found.

System.IO.File.Copy(My.Resources.Image, PATH, False)That will turn up with an error telling me that the value of type Bitmap cannot be converted to string. So i figured i would try to put a .ToString behind it, and then i'll get the File Not Found error.

How To Reference Resources To Save In Settings - Visual Basic 2008 .net

May 24, 2012

I'm trying to save a setting that keeps what background image I'm currently using. If it's an external file, there is no problem, i can just get the .location and set it in a String setting to store it.

But, if I want to store an image resource as a setting, how do i do it?I know i can store rawdata, like bitmap information, but then i can't set that type of data to the my.background.

I don't know if the question should be: "how do i reference resources", but the my.resources.resource.methodsList doesnt contain anything that seems to be of use.

How To Copy/move A File (image,accdb,...) Out Of Resources

May 12, 2012

I am making a VB.NET application linked to a database. when you press the button 'generate' it is writes (fairly simple) webpages to a folder in your destkop. what I tried was adding a build-in uploader to my website, but my host didn't supported that. ok, not that big of a deal, and completely out of context but now let's get to the core of my problem;

I wanted to have an image in the resources (none made yet) and have it copied out the resources and placed along with the webpages (to use it as background image). I have tried a lot (clearly not everything or it would work) but I just don't manage to solve this. the problem is I need to be able to do this, since I want to have my .accdb in the resources to, so that it copies out when used an writes (an updated version) back to the resources and deletes the external file. but I never seem to manage to do this. I tried to read, write and other things it with IO and everything, just getting the message that it cannot be read. but I never seem to find how to copy/move it outside the program. the code I am using now looks like this:

Imports System.Reflection
Imports System.IO 'this is for the writing of the .HTML files
Imports System
Public Class webGenerator

Application - Reference Quite A Few Pictures And Strings From My.Resources - Error - "There Were Several Build Errors

And then below in the Output:

----- Build started: Project: Wilkes-Barre Virtual Scavenger hunt, Configuration: Debug x86 ------

COM Reference 'WMPLib' is the interop assembly for ActiveX control 'AxWMPLib' but was marked to be linked by the compiler with the /link flag. This COM reference will be treated as a reference and will not be linked.

Copy Value Of A Reference Type?

Jan 12, 2010

I've got a class, lets call it Person, which needs to keep some data (in the form of another class which we will call PersonData) in one of its properties - the problem is that I will have several instances of this person class and they all need their own 'copy' of the data (just in memory, its not a file or anything).Hhow would I do this? At the moment because everything involved is a Reference type, I'm assuming that if I were to create 2 instances of my Person classes and assign the same instance of the PersonData class to their properties then when one Person class made a change to the PersonData it would be reflected in the other Person class right? How can I avoid that and make it so that they both have their own version of the data, without having to repeat the procedure that fetches the data in the first place?

I'll explain my exact situation just in case it helps, but this is more of a general question as I could probably get around it in this case by copying the byte array I receive from the server (hopefully that will make sense once you read the explanation below) :

In this case the data I am talking about copying is actually received from a server via TcpClient. The thing is, when the client requests the data from the server over the network, the server has to go off and query several other servers etc so I do not want to be requesting data from the server every single time as that would be a big waste of resources and time. So when a request is made and data is received back from the server, several of these Person class instances will be created (in reality, its a few different classes but that doesnt make a difference for this example) and each need to have access to the full data that the server has sent back but in some cases the Person instances might need to modify the data and this is where the problem appears as they will all be working on the same data.

Add Object To Collection (copy Not Reference)?

Mar 27, 2009

i have a user define object which i'm initializing with data from external datafiles.... the purpose of this object is to reduce the amount of disk/data access and processing required every time i need to add an instance of this object to a collection.so, whenever i add a copy of this object to a collection, i would simply reference the "base" object, and avoid having to process all the data and perform the conversion and so on...the issue is when i add the object

Collection.add(Base_Object, Key)

the collection ITEM is a Reference to the base object and not a copy.

Reference A Dll With Copy Local = False

When the copy local property is true, everythings works fine. When it is false, I get a runtime error saying dll cannot be found. The other program is a restricted access application and I can not distribute the dll with my project. How can I force my project to look for dll under "C:ProgramFilesAppName"? I didn't have this issue with VB6.0.
