Express 2010 Update After Delete Query
Sep 3, 2011I have been working on a simple delete and update thrugh the TableAdapter in Express 2010 and can't get it to update after a delete query. The same TableAdapter works fine when I do an 'Add', but not after the delete. What am I missing? I could use the SQL commands, but would like to use the software commands instead. Oct 3, 2011I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".

Feb 29, 2012I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

Oct 16, 2010I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.

Jan 21, 2011I am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

May 12, 2010Is VB Express 2010 slower to compile and run that older versions of VB Express? I've installed it this weekend and it seems a little sluggish on my quad core computer with 1 gig of RAM. I have VB Express 2005 installed for my students at school and it seems to fly just fine. Those school computers are older P4s with 512k of RAM.

Jun 3, 2011Initially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.
run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).

Linq To Sql Query Using 2008 Express Edition
Jan 4, 2011I encountered something like a logical error which I could hardly resolve since I'm new to this technology. I'm using visual basic 2008 express edition with its built-in linq-to-sql technology. I was able to retrieve, add, edit, and delete such record using the linq-to-sql method, but one thing.I could not get is something like relational database operation. Here is my problem. As you can see the table above which represents the records on my database. You can notice there some account numbers that were duplicated which I used as the primary key or identifier. What I want is when I'd like to query such account number it should display all the records that have the same account numbers on it. Say for example, if I query the account number 00003. It should only pull up and display three records with the name Maverick and their corresponding address, movie rented and date.What is happening in my end is when I query such account number which are being duplicated in the database I encountered two things, its either it would display all the records in the database with different account numbers associated or it gives me an error message if I change my code from 'For Each memrec In db.Table3s' to 'For Each memrec In retrn' statement.What I've been trying to do here is if you enter the account number on the search box, it should only display the records on the combo box associated with the account number being entered. Like if you enter 00003 on the search box, it should only display the three movies rented by Maverick no more no less on the combo box. [code]
I have already tried that set of codes before but it's working the same thing. I tried many times modifying my codes before I posted my comment in this forum thinking that i can resolve it on my own but I wasn't able to. That code won't still filter the records in the database. I would like to verify that the table above is only representation but the real column on the table on my database is 'Account#' not Account Number and visual basic would detect the code as 'Account_'. May i know why Movies_Rented column on my table is not a member of string? Why is it the code you gave would still display all the records on the combo box? this is what im not getting. hope you can still find the solution to this issue.

VB 2008 Express Edition - How To Attach My Query In Order For It To Run
Dec 3, 2010I'm using visual basic 2008 express edition and I'm not sure how to attach my query in order for it to run? I've been using trying to use visual basic to create a form which retrieves data from a Microsoft access database and filters the data to find the record starting with the letter retrieved from the user. When it is run without the query the data grid shows all the records. However when my original query is put in the application changes it and the value shown is null in all fields.
This is what i had before:

-Compact database (to clear out table)
-then run query to remake table

1. I've registered my VB 2010 Express, will it still expire?
2. Will the applications I made using VB 2010 Express expire after some time?
3. Is it OK to write my code in the designer.vb file? I don't know why, but when I started writing my application it took me to the designer.vb instead of form1.vb code.
4. I've been working on an application for a week now, but suddenly I can no longer access my Design View(Shift-F7). All my codes are written on the [form name].Designer.vb. I can still view my codes but I cant access my form layout. On the solution explorer, my forms no longer have the 'form icon'. When i press Shift-F7 nothing happens. Right-clicking the form on the solution explorer doesn't show 'View Designer' option. How can I fix this?
