View 2 RepliesI am trying to make a little app. we like xmas shows and I wanted to make an application that I could enter the shows and the times and channels they are on this coming season and have a pop up reminder for it. Cheesy I know :) I found a tutorial on youtube with the below code. It works great however it doesn't allow me to input a specific time. I like the textbox because I can add the shows information and I would like the msg box to display the shows name and channel and time I think I can figure that part out but I cannot figure out how to make it let me enter a time and than notify 15 minutes before that time.
Imports System.IO
Public Class Form1
Dim m As MsgBoxResult

I have three tables,
Products(ProductID, ProductName)
Orders(OrderID, OrderDate)
OrderDetails(ProductID, OrderID) Junction table between Products and Orders.
For example, there are Three ProductID in Products table A01, A02, A03
Four OrderID in Orders table
1. 01/01/2009, 2. 03/01/2009, 3. 05/01/2009, 4. 07/01/2009.
OrderDetails data as below:
A01 -- 01/01/2009
A02 -- 01/01/2009

How can I do this in LINQ to SQL Visual Basic?
I have recently completed a project using VB.NET 2008 express edition. Now I have to create a Product Key Generator for which I have no clue how that works. I wanna do it in such a way that the product can't run without the valid key and the key can only be used for one copy of the product. Also if possible how do we generate a Unique Product ID?
View 3 RepliesRight now i have a form in the VB where there are 2 combobox in it. user can choose from a range of products that comes together with some description and these are to be stored in a database table.. when i retrieve these data from another form in VB, i'm only able to retrieve the first product and it repeat e same product in my second textbox.
View 6 RepliesI have 2 datagrids. One to show Product information and another for Product purchase details entry. Both share the same dataset. The dataset (ds) is filled up with columns from 2 table
ProductMstrTbl : ProductID, ProductName..
ProductDetailsTbl: ProductID, PurchaseDate, Amt, BalanceQty..
DataSet(ds) : ProductID, ProductName, PurchaseDate, Amt, BalanceQty.
The problem is that: Showing from dataset or entering new records into the dataset is no problem, but am not able to save the modified dataset into DataBase. SqlCommandBuilder failed to generate the corresponding INSERT, UPDATE command as the dataset has multiple base tables.

View 4 RepliesI need some help in the creation of a program to generate a security code based on the current date. I need to create something that first multiplies the MMDDYY (ie X=MM * DD * YY) then also adds the MMDDYY then finds the remainder and then multiplies but a specified number. I would like to create a small program that sits in the system tray with this code displayed. The code will always need to be 6 characters, so I might need to pad it with zeros. It has been years since I took basic VB, and I am really rusty.

View 2 RepliesI am trying to make a product key registrar for my program. I want the product keys in a database or a dictionary type thing where I can make new keys everyday without putting them into the program, and redistrubate them everytime.
View 5 RepliesI made this thread a discussion thread instead of a question thread because I would like hear opinions on how I should do this best. Right now, what I am wanting to do is done with macros inside of microsoft excel spreadsheet and I think a program that is easier to control and perform updates and that did the same thing might be simpler for the end-user and for me. The Excel sheet works fine for right now but editing the macros when a change needs to be made is a pain.
I would like to have a VB program where a user will scan in a serial number and a tester number and then that information will be stored in a sheet, like excel or pdf or something, and then when that sheet reaches the limit of parts that should be on a certain sheet, save the sheet to a specific folder and then print the sheet out.
I will do a step by step breakdown to make it a little more clear what I am trying to do.
Step 1: User determines what kind of part is being scanned (Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, Type 4)
Step 2: User scans the barcode on the part. That data is entered into a sheet as well as the date and time when the part was scanned.Step 3: User then scans a barcode telling the program what station the part come from (Station 1, Station 2, Station 3, Station 4). Then the sheet is saved and waits on another part to be scanned, going back to Step 2.
Step 4: When the sheet meets the maximum allowed parts per sheet, determined by what part is being scanned, the sheet is saved into a folder and the prints itself out.I'm not necessarily looking for code for this idea but more of a 'Well, I would do it like this.." type thing.
I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
So I was assigned to create a calculator that can calculate the sum, product, difference, & quotient using an external class. Unfortunately my teacher isn't exactly the best and I'm new to VB, I know how to create a calculator in VB .NET but when it comes to external classes,

I am currently creating a program to send keystokes to a program at certain intervals. I need the thread to delay between keystrokes, and i need to be able to have the user input the amount of delay from the GUI via textbox. I have it running perfect with Thread.Sleep(), but it just isn't consistent enough. How can I code it to be accurate to roughly 5ms up or down? thanks, and here is the code. This is in VB 2010 by the way.

I am new to the Forum and I hope this is the best location for this thread.I SEARCHed a few threads, but did not see quite what I was after.I am interested in how to make VB 2010 create a NEW COPY of my current project, with a NEW project Folder, New Name, but a copy of all of my forms and modules.
I see that VB 2010 puts my new projects in their own folder in Libraries/Documents/Visual Studio 2010 /Projects.As an example, I am working on a project, and have it a partially completed, partially working mode, and want to save this version before I go on making further additions and modifications to it.
I want the New Version to be the same as the current version, but I don't want any changes made to effect the older version.I could manually copy the current project's folder, but I am not sure what all of the sub folders and files do, or point to, or would otherwise have to be changed.
I'm NOT looking to track each change made in the project. I just want to occassionally have a backup version I can fall back on.I have several VB 2010 texts, but they don't seem to address this question.
In VB2010 Beta 2, after program development, how do I deploy (or create a solution to), programs I have written? Also, how can I change the folder where VB 2010 looks for my help documentation Hope someone can help. I've been an on-again off-again programmer for years, but 2010 just makes my head spin a little...
As far as the solution creation, I've already tried clicking on Project-->Publish, which more or less seems like it wants to upload to a website rather than be stuck on my HD... I don't want to upload to the web;the whole reason I want to export is that I want to think I remember at one time having read something about the about box labels only displaying the new information you stick in them once the program has been turned into a .exe file, but I'm not sure; although now that I've run into this problem of creating solutions, even w/ this little bit of a program (nowhere near complete, something like a sure-to-be-crappy-take on Mass Effect 2.. it's primarily text based); heck, for that matter just about all I write programs for is because "hey.. it's enjoyable... umm... kind of" -- I originally started in college as a Computer Science major, switched to Music, transferred schools, the school I transferred to didn't think I had the skills they look for in incoming students, and from there switched to spanish major.
____, just about all I'd be good for is playing music and localization projects (both in and out of the game industry). Not so sure I'll get anywhere, but I said "what the heck, I'll upload my resume to EA".
