What solutions are available in a VBScript (XP and 2003 environment) to check the network connexion (slow/fast)?Something similar to GPO slow network detection.
The customer would like a solution that do not requires to deploy a new executable but that uses an existing object model property accessible from VBS.
I have been struggling to get vbscript working for last three days of relentless effort. I have windows 7 ultimate and upgraded from windows vista. searched the web for solutions and tried out all the options I think I have, but yet no luck.
I tried registering vbscript.dll and I get a succeeded message back. Everything seems to be fine. but, I just cannot run vbscript on my computer. It complains that "can't find script engine vbscript for script ....". I have a hunch that it is something to do with "microsfot security essentials (my virus protection software)" or with UAC.
Mine is a simple conexion problem but I dont understands what's happening I have another form in the same project which has no problems at all, I desided to create a form to use it as a base form named plantillav only to duplicate forms and intance the others from that one I put it's Modifiers Property = Protected in ortder to modify property values in the other ones I don't know if the process generated a failure.
I created the following strconn:
Public

This table was exported from phpmyadmin (wamp) so it means is created and even with registers inserted directly from console, the problem is when I send from the application, with the following error that indicates that the name of the field doesn't exist or is not well written; Unknown column 'code_empleado' in 'field list'.
I'm writing an application that will be used in a mobile environment where network connectivity will be up/down regularly. How do I check to see that a specific network is available?
In my app I have a dialog in which the user can select a database backup location. If want to warn the user if the location he/she selected is "probably not secure".[code]...
How can I get this kind of info about a selected folder? I know about the DriveInfo class, but it only handles drive letter, not UNC
I can't seem to work this out... I've got a program that references a network path. The problem is that the network files are not found when I run the program from various computers. If I have the user navigate to the network path directoy and then run the program it works perfectly.
The problem is that whenever the machine is restarted I run into the same problem and have to manually navigate to that path before the program will be able to find the files.
I then tried several checks to see if the directory exists but it's not working.
Public Sub FillListBox() If My.Computer.FileSystem.DirectoryExists("\AB eamportalShared%20DocumentsJustin%27s%20AppsFeedback") Then

If you are writing a program that is used to monitor the status of your network, then this thread may not be of interest.
If you are an application programmer that uses network resources to accomplish your goal, i.e. you are using SMTP, FTP, HTTP, NNTP, NTP etc., and you think that you need to check for a connection first, then read on.Follow up to this. Before getting all geeky let's take a little detour...
Five days a week I get up, eat breakfast, check my email, forums, etc., take a shower, get dressed, and then drive to school. Many of you probably have a similar routine. What is interesting about that is not what we do, but what we dont do,because of our expectations and experience. Here is what I dont do.
I dont stick my finger in the electrical socket to see if there is electricity for the coffee maker and toaster.I dont fire up the command prompt and ping some host on the internet to see if I have connectivity.I dont check the battery, tires, water level, clutch fluid level, washer fluid level, etc.,before I drive off.
All of that is based on expectation and experience. So why would you write an application that pings the internet before it did something (SMTP, FTP, HTTP, NNTP, NTP etc)???? Is your experience or expectation that the network will be down?To illustrate and hopefully convince you that, like Oblio, it is pointless, create a new form with three buttons. In the following examples I use a WebRequest / WebResponse as my 'Something'.Here is what some think is a good approach, the classic ping-then-do, what I think you shouldn't do.[code]....What is wrong with this code is that all of the network IO is being done without a Try / Catch block.
I am developing an application, which hunts the local network for attached computers then checks for a share and a file, if found it displays it in a listbox. While testing this I have seen some strange Chinese or Japanese computer names pop up and in a few seconds go away, the names seem to always be different.
I use the following code to layout network drives on a system. I want to add a third column for persistence but in vb.net I do not know how to check if a drive has a persistent map or not.
For Each drive_info As DriveInfo In DriveInfo.GetDrives() If drive_info.DriveType().ToString = "Network" Then With maps.Items.Add(drive_info.Name)
So I have had some "free" time at work and came across a write up some where on these forums yesterday for a messenger system. I would REALLY like to give credit where credit is due because alot of the source for this was borrowed from the write up on here but I don't remember where the write up is located or who wrote it so please if you have a link to it post it. Thank you again to who ever wrote it. Any how on to this. I have expanded the origional messenger I found on d.i.c to include multi-user "chat" if you will. It is still a basic p2p messanging system because you can only talk to one person at a time but you can speak to multiple people in the same window. So far I have been able to get it to work across our LAN here at the office but am wondering if I can change the text file locations to an FTP some how and make it internet based. I am sorry for the uncommented code as I was in a rush cranking this out but it is fairly simple so you should be able to read through it with ease.[code]
I want to execute some code when a network drive is available. Just like our application even have NetworkAvailabilityChanged. I want this to work just like our Application Events.
Private Sub MyApplication_NetworkAvailabilityChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As Microsoft.VisualBasic.Devices.NetworkAvailableEventArgs) Handles Me.NetworkAvailabilityChanged End Sub Private Sub MyApplication_Shutdown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Shutdown [Code] .....
Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. I'll give you a simple example:
i have a task to create a TCP Server (a program that is listening on its network card interfaces for incoming data stream).I have search on the internet and i found that i can use two methods : Socket or TCPListener class.I have created an example for Socket class, but i wondering how could i test it? I need to check that if another computer in the network send some string data to the listener computer , then this message should be displayed. Here is the example from microsoft that i am using for TCP Server using Socket:
Public Shared Sub Main() ' Data buffer for incoming data. Dim data = nothingc[code]....
But it does not work because of the PORT setting. If in the TCP Server i have "Dim localEndPoint As New IPEndPoint(ipAddress, 0)" the client crashes, but if i change the port from any (0) to 11000 for example, the client works fine.Do you know why?
Later edit2:Maybe i should have started with this question:Which method is recommended for my scope?asynchronous or synchronous method ?
I have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.
How to call a function in vb.net DLL from VBScript?I did the following: I create public class named Class1 in vb.net.I go to Visual Studio 2008 Command Prompt and go to my class dll - C:MyappinDebug and type following command tlbexp myDLL.dll after that i get message Assembly exported to C:MyappinDebugmyDLL.tlb After this I type following command regasm myDLL.dll and i get following message RegAsm : warning RA0000 : No types were registered
I am writing some code as part of a framework for opening a file. The file is of custom type and should not be opened by more than one instance of my application. To stop multiple file opening I use a filestream to create a lock file and then keep said filestream open. This seems to work in preventing another instance of my application from opening the file ( as it will fail in recreating the lock stream in the files open code ) but if the file is on a network share and the network drops then the original application also can not access the file any more. The code to get the lock stream is as follows:
Try ' We need to keep this stream alive to prevent other applications gaining access to the lock mLockStream = New FileStream(mLockPath, FileMode.CreateNew, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None)[code]....
In this I create the lock stream the first time round and then if another application tries to create it, it throws an exception and stops them from getting any further. This is kind of how it needs to work, unfortunately as I said, if this is done across a network and then the network connection is dropped for some reason then I can not delete the lock stream as I get an IOException telling me a process cannot access the file as it is open in another process ( which shouldn't be happening I don't think).
how to convert from vbscript to vb.net im trying to convert the TestGenericHid.wsf script to vb.net (wheter partially or fully but im fur sure trying to do the initialization sequences) but usually the development team of a ms sdk posts it in managed code like c# or vb.net. If someone has already converted this please post but i have attemped myself to do this already but cant get any straight responses from vb.net interop guys or wdk guys so here is the full code sample:url..Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. - "Sherlock holmes" "speak softly and carry a big stick" - theodore roosevelt.
I wish to convert the vbscript below to vb.net. Note: the functions from the script are also in a dll file but you can install the dsf runtime which comes with the windows ddk and just use the com component it installs from vb.net.
Just need help converting this .bat to vbscript. cd
[Code]....
Just need it to go to each user names directory when logging into a terminal server and removing all items in there respective folder. I'm assuming to user the UserString where the "user.name" is but not sure how to do this.
How come the Script below keeps displaying the Else message until it finds the string? I was expecting for it to display 1 single Box whether it was found or not? why does it keep itterating through the Else condition?
Dim myArray,myString,myString2,intCount myString = "my;string;question;hope;you;can;answer" myString2 = "question"
The VB application I am creating runs a external vbscript. The vbscript is run using cscript.exe so the output text from the script is in the CLI. I need this outputted text to be in a ListBox is my application
I have a DetailsView that I am using to insert an enrollment form into the database. Currently every functions fine, with one exception. Since there is a terms and agreement checkbox at the bottom of the form that I cannot validate using the existing validation controls, I'm trying to handle this in the VBScript. The problem is that the InsertCommand in my ASP executes before the Button_Click sub does, so the form is submitted before the checkbox validates. Can someone tell me how to move the InsertCommand from the ASP to the code file so that I can make sure it doesn't execute until AFTER my button validation? Here is my code:
I have this snippet of VB.NET code that I want to convert to VBScript. It basically starts Microsoft Word, displays the Open dialog and mail merges the selected document.
Dim oMissing As Object = System.Reflection.Missing.Value Dim oEndOfDoc As Object = "\endofdoc" Dim oFalse As Object = False 'Start Word and create a new document. Dim oWord As Word._Application Dim oDoc As Word._Document
I have a process by which I push icons to distant Vista based PCs on our domain...it's all automated. One of these itemsis a shortcut (call it MYLINK.LNK) which I put in the user's Start Menu. That shortcut calls a .WSF script that, in turn, runs a JScriptfollowed by a VBScript. The JScript installs a commercial product and the VBScript is used to clean up after itself. One of those 'clean up' jobs is to delete the icon that kicked off this entire thing.
So I have : Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") objFSO.DeleteFile("C: empstartload.wsf")
