Adding Data To An Already Open Excel File 2005?
May 15, 2010I am trying to open an excel file and write to it as data becomes availableI can create an instance of excel and write to the selected worksheet once. But, I can't seem to write back to the existing file. I keep on getting a null reference error when I try to send new data to the file.The function I am using will run once, but when it returns to the main form, I lose the values of xlApp and xlWorksheet. It appears that going in to the function makes the original values null.

Jul 7, 2011I'm trying to connect a VB application (2010) to an MS Access DB by adding a data source from the data menu but I receive this error message "The connection you selected uses a local data file that is not in the current project.Would you like to copy the file to your project and modify the connection ?
If you copy the data file to your project, it will be copied to the project's output directory each time you run the application" and the options are (yes , No , Help)
If I choose Yes I will not be able to make the application 'device independent ' since it will not be copied under the bin , and if I choose No , changes won't be applied to the DB

VS 2005 Adding A Class To The ToolBox?
May 29, 2009I can't seem to figure this out. I basically am trying to write a class, not a usercontrol, that can show up in the ToolBox. I want it to act similar to how a ContextMenuStrip or BindingSource does, in that there is no UI when you throw in on the Form, it goes down to that bottom part (name?).
1) What do you call those types of components?
2) Why won't this test class that I wrote do the same thing?

Basically, calling the method at an interval.I can do this if there's only a single object, but the number of objects that i have to create depends on the number of entries in a table. Adding Data Using Data Details View?
Apr 18, 2009I have a datagridview on form1 but I don't want users adding data using datagridview, instead, I wanna use details view. So I created a form2, dragged and dropped details view on form2. I changed the Addnew on BindingNavigator to None and added a code to the Addnew click event handler to call the form2 out so that I could add data from there. But, when form2 loaded. the textboxes pulled out all the information from datagridview. I did not want that, I wanted all the textboxes to appear empty when it was loaded. so I deleted all the textboxes and added my own textboxes so that they appeared empty when form2 was loaded.

SQL Server 2005 Slows Down As I Keep Adding Rows
Dec 31, 2009As a preface, I am brand new to using SQL Server 2005; I know how to use the SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT commands and that's about it. I am also using Express Edition on my local PC (E8400 processor, 8GB of DDR2-800, 2 x 640GB SATA-II HDD in RAID 1)
I have a table that I set up with 8 columns, all are NVARCHAR(Max) and I allow Null. I know in concept what a primary key is, but I don't have one (nor do I know how to set one up).
My VB.NET program that I'm working on is downloading a historical stock price chart from Yahoo, for every single ticker symbol in existence. The first 50,000 rows or so I added was super fast. Then I went to bed, and when I woke up it was still running - but the rate of row additions has slowed waaaaaay down; I noticed this around row 300,000. I always expected the rate of row addition to be constant over time, but obviously this is not so!
From browsing other Stack Overflow questions, I suspect my slow down is related to my piss-poor table setup. If this is the case, where should I begin first to fix this, and are there any good resources I could read up on to get started? I'm hoping this is something simple I can fix [code]....

Then when I try to add it to my datatable, if the value is Nothing I get an error saying string was not recognized as a valid DateTime. I'm having trouble getting this to work.

Nov 3, 2010I created a reporting utility for my users to view, send (via email), export SSRS reports. I have set up date parameter boxes with calendar drop down and they are able to send via email a URL link that would either display the report via ReportViewer or send a link that would let then view the report in Excel or PDF. This is working just fine. Now I just added a button for adding new email addresses and a new windows form with a textbox for entering the email address and a command button for Save Email Address.
