I'm actually trying to help another member over at CG with this problem, on this thread url...And I'm clueless as to what to try anymore. The thing is, we're trying to add a Context Menu on a Menustrip. If you were to right click on any menu on the System's Start menu, you'd see, that you can right click any menu item, and do whatever with it.I have sourced some code, and eventually got a sample worked out - the problem is, it only works with top level menus, not submenus.[code]If you were to run this code, you'd see that only right clicking Testing ( the top menu ) works. Can anyone see any reason why this doesn't work with Submenu itemsView 3 Replies View Related
I have around 100 items in a menustrip like your favourites menu in internet explorer. Is it possible to scroll down using the mouse scroll wheel? Is it possible to automatically scroll when the mouse pointer is over the arrow at the bottom or top as opposed to having to click to scroll the menu?View 2 Replies View Related

I have been playing with the Windows API.A Windows application typically has a TitleBar (with a caption on it), underneath is a MenuStrip, under that a ToolStrip (with the tool icons on it), and under that the main application area.I want to be able to strip everything off, except for the main application area.I have found how to hide the TitleBar, using:
GetWindowLong (and passing to it the handle of the form, and GW_STYLE to get the current windows style)SetWindowLong (and passing to it the handle of the form, the InitialStyle, and ORing with it WS_DLGFRAME) how to remove the MenuStrip and ToolStrip to leave just the main application area?
Code so far:
Public Class Form1
Private Const WM_SYSCOMMAND As Integer = 274
Private Const SC_MAXIMIZE As Integer = 61488
I have just been editing some of the icons on a toolstrip and now I find that I have completely lost all of the toolstrip, menustrip and statusbar data. All I have left is blank controls.View 3 Replies View Related

I have a MenuStrip control and when I right clicked on it and selected "insert standard items", it created a few functions. There are a few options there that I would like to get working: Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, and Select All. I presume that for what I want, I'd need to make my own classes for each function. (ie: Cut class, Copy class... etc.)
I would like to be able to do something similar to the example below:

Im creating a desktop app with multiple forms. My ideal aim is to create 1 MenuStrip to use throughout the different forms (the same MenuStrip) appears on the different forms. otherwise I'll be copying the MenuStrips from 1 form to another and copying the Event code. What is the best way of doing this? I've created UserControl, put my MenuStrip on it along with me Code, then I load an instance of it whenever a new form loads. This seems to work fine until I want close the Main Form. I've tried ' Me.Hide ' but that just hides the UserControl. So the MenuStrip appears on Form A, when i click a Menu Item I want it to close Form A and open Form B.View 2 Replies View Related

I am using vb.net 2008. I have a MDI form with a menu strip added. From different menu's i calling related Exe's and opening in side the MDI form. In this case setting of MDIparent properties to the child form (Exe) in not possible. In my Exe i am reading my MDI windows handle and using the setparent API function. In this case the exe is opening inside the MDI below the titile bar but it is hiding the menu strip. (In vb6 it is working fine - Means the exe opens below the menu strip). Is their any way opening the exe below the menustrip or toolstrip.View 1 Replies View Related

I accidentally pressed the insert standard items, then I removed the items that I added by accident but there are still remaining items

When I try to set a MenuStrip Item calling it by name it gives me an exception?
An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in Sample.exe
Additional information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Either of the following statements cause errors.
frmMenu.MenuStripfrmMenu.Items(key:="Enter").Enabled = False
frmMenu.MenuStripfrmMenu.Items("Enter").Enabled = False
However when I call Items using an integer it works perfectly.
I have found if you put a text box into a menustrip item everything under that menu no longer show it's properties when clicked and double clicking on the item does not got to the code until you click outside the menustrip. This behavior is only present when the menustrip render mode is system and only when a textbox is in that menu item. Fails with visual studio 2005 and 2010. Am using visual basic. Changing render mode from system to anything else makes everything work, change it back to system and it does not work. This only happens with a textbox in the menu strip item.View 1 Replies View Related
I'm having a spot of trouble working out how menustrip yet again.I have an MDI project. A child form contains a menustrip that has shortcut keys defined... F1 through F4 at design time. At run-time the child form menustrips are merged into the MDI parent form menustrip. The Function keys do not cause the menu to drop down. *Frutz* I thought okay. I'll use the control's keypress event to trap the F1 key and cause the menu item to drop down Apparently the menu Item is not available in the child form since it was merged to the MDI parent menustrip...*Frippity Frutz* Okay... Call the MDI parent menustrip from the child form...."No menustrip object found".View 4 Replies View Related

I want to show a ContextMenuStrip beneath a MenuStrip item when that item is clicked. Stuff in the ContextMenuStrip changes dynamically. The ContextMenuStrip is used in a DataGridView. I don't want to duplicate the same items in the MenuStrip.
I can get the mouse coordinates OK, but I don't want that. I want to use the ContextMenuStrip show method referenced to a control. An item in the MenuStrip is not a control, but the entire MenuStrip is a control. If I can get the x-y position of the item in the MenuStrip I can show the ContextMenuStrip in the right place, and it will look just as if it was part of the MenuStrip. how to obtain the location of the MenuStrip item that's active.
I have a menu strip on a form and to assist the users and to make it more aesthetically pleasing I want to add an inverted triangle at the end of each menu title to make it more obvious there are other options available if you click on it.I am currently using Times New Roman as a font but that can be changed if necessary.View 4 Replies View Related

I have a MenuStrip with several items in it. All I am trying to do is select(check) only one item at a time.
Example: Lets say I have a menu title Fruits, and under the menu are several fruits.
Currently, when I click on one fruit there is a check mark, good! The problem is when I click on another fruit there is also a check mark and so on. I only need the menu to check one item at a time, this will unchecked an item if I check another menu item. I tried using if statements but doesn't even come close to working. Any ideas on this?
I have a VB 2008 form with about a dozen buttons that use ALT+key shortcuts, e.g. names beginning &S, &N, etc. I also have a menustrip with a couple of entries but I have not assigned shortcut keys to any of them. However, three of the entries on the menustrip begin with S, N, and E. The result is that the shortcut keys for those buttons don't work - instead the shortcut activates the menustrip item. For example, ALT+E brings up the Exit on the menustrip instead of activating the button with the &E... label. I even tried setting the shortcut for the menu item to something totally different, but it doesn't matter.Even though I have programmed something different, the menu strip takes precedence on the shortcut. is there any way to just disable shortcut keys on the menustrip? What I've done for now is alter the names of my menustrip items by numbering them, e.g. "5 Exit" instead of "Exit" so that ALT+5 does the exit and leaves ALT+E for the button I want it to be associated with.View 3 Replies View Related

I've been investigating, and so far it seems that the answer to my question is "it's not supported".View 4 Replies View Related
Private Sub MouseClick_MouseUp(ByVal Sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) _
I have a MenuStrip on my form. I have a couple of questions:
1. If I click on a menu item that has its own submenu, the menu will not collapse. I want the whole MenuStrip to collapse when I click on any item regardless if the item has its own submenu. How can I do this?
2. Is it possible to set the width of a MenuStrip less than the forms's width and have it docked in top-left corner? I would like to have a MenuStrip and a ToolStrip side-by-side along the top of the form.
I am new in VB Forms. I am using a MenuStrip. How do I get the selected sub menu content to a MSG box? This is working for the top menu, but what for sub menus?
Private Sub MenuStrip1_Clicked(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As ToolStripItemClickedEventArgs) Handles MenuStrip1.ItemClicked
'Get the text of the item that was clicked on.
Dim s As String = e.ClickedItem.Text
I have a Sub Menu which has a list of values and when the user selects one it sets a variable to the checked value. I was wondering if it is possible to group them into a control so only 1 can be checked at a time? And also so the menu structure doesn't close each time one of these options is selected.
I have attached a quick ScreenShot to show what i mean of the menu.
