Why dose this paint event change all the strings that have been painted to the current variable in Me.txtSheetLabel.Text?

I am using drawstring with the DrawMode set to OwnerDrawFixed on a tab control. The Tabs have a alignment set to left, but the text is displayed in a horizontal orientation. I would like to change the orientation to vertical. I am expecting this to be simple, but can not seem to find the correct input parameters for drawstring.

I am trying to figure out how to print a string of text inverted so the background would be black, and the text would be white. Is there any way to do this using drawstring? Been looking around, but am not getting anywhere.

I'm trying to create an object Of a specific type. I've got the following code, but it fails because it can't cast the new table object to the one that is already defined. I need table to start of an IEnumerable type so I can't declare is an object.
Public sub getTable(ByVal t as Type)
Dim table As Table(Of Object)
Dim tableType As Type = GetType(Table(Of )).MakeGenericType(t)

is there a way of changing a variable type at runtime?

I have a window that needs to run a length process. The process is threaded so it doesn't lock up the screen. However, I need this to run when the window is first loaded, not based on a button click or anything. The problem it creates is that it causes the window to stall a bit when initially painting itself. I even tried to put the call to the method in the Shown event, although it helps, it's still not perfect.

I'm having a problem with the graphics portion of vb.net. As a school assignment, we are making "turtle graphics" applications. I have mine working perfectly, the problem that we are having (not even the teacher can fix it) is that when the window gets sent the command to be painted (ie minimized and maximized) the drawings in the picturebox I am using are completely erased. I am looking for a way to prevent this from happening. I have been trying to store the image as a bitmap in memory, which does not work. Is there another way to draw to a bitmap/image in memory and then output that to a picturebox?

I'm in the middle of a project, I've got the bulk of it working but I cannot work out how to get my variables to modify the SQL query properly, I'll try and explain. GUI has 5 search fields Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 & Q5 with 4 checkboxes that denote AND / OR operators that need to be inserted into the query correctly. If they are all set to 'AND' it works fine. However if the user wants 'Q1 AND Q2 OR Q3' then it fails. If I hard code then I just user brackets ie '(Q1 AND Q2) Or Q3'. For some reason I seam incapable of working out the code to achieve this...
Code snippet:
'Check AND OR Checkbox and assign Operator
If Q1AND.Checked = True Then
Q1Op = "AND"
Else : Q1Op = "OR"

I'm having a difficult time converting a Windows API call that works fine in VB6 to run in VB 2005 (Windows XP with SP2 in both cases). I reduced the problem code down to its core which is below. I'm trying to change the screen resolution with the ChangeDisplaySettingsEx call; the idea is that on entering the program it shifts to high resolution and at the end it restores the original settings. I left the restore part out because I get the same error. Which is "An invalid parameter was passed in.This can include an invalid flag or combination of flags." I'm trying to use exactly the same parameters, but somewhere in the conversion process from VB6 a fatal change crept in. My guess is that it's either in the ByRef/ByVal or Short/Integer/Long alternatives, or in the conversion of the Devmode structure which included fixed-length strings (OK in VB6 but not allowed in VB.NET). But all my fiddling so far has not produced a solution. I got the same error code back in VB6 when I tried to set a display frequency that was not supported at the resolution I requested, but even leaving the values unmodified (in effect setting them to what they are now, with no change) gives the same error. Any ideas? So far as I can tell, there is no alternative to the API to accomplish this goal; would be interested to know if I missed it.

I have a solution with 5 visual basic projects in it. Each project has an identical module with a few functions and constants - like handling our RS232 data, outputting events to log files, etc, etc..
If I want to change any of this common code, then I have to manually go through and change in each project. Is there a way to have a single module or class that's shared throughout the projects in the entire solution? I've considered creating and referencing a class library, but I'm likely to be making several little tweaks and changes to this "global code" and that method sounds like it could be just as awkward. Can I not just have a module that's visible to all projects, and compiled into each one seperately when the solution is built?

I have 10 forms and say 5 text box's on each one so a total of 50 of these text box's. But the program is only using one of these forms only (user selects the 1 Form out of the 10) so I was wondering can these forms Share the input text box's? I am thinking NO, if so then the only thing I can do is just use 5 shared variables that all the forms can utilize.

So we'll be able to see through the label control ... I changed the BackColor property to Transparent but it didn't work for me ... BackColor changed to Transparent ... But still I ain't able to see the image behind the label control ... (PictureBox) ... Background color of label still remained the background color of Form i.e. Control color ...

I'm programming in VB using Visual Studio 2005 Professional. I have a code munger perl script that generates some of the *.vb files that I want to compile. The script and the associated files are in my project directory, and when I run the script from the OS command prompt, it writes the files in the same directory, which is what I want. Rather than do this, I want to invoke the perl script as a pre-build event. I've gotten it to work ... almost. The only issue now is that the files are now deposited in TargetDir (/bin/Release e.g.) instead of ProjectDir. I could just change TargetDir to be ProjectDir, but that seems like I'm asking for trouble. Is there a way to separately specify the target directory for pre-build commands? Or change it to ProjectDir, then change it back after I'm done with the pre-build?

I've implemented the localization in my windows application with no problem for the label or command button which have a fixed text.
My problem is related to the label which text is merged with some variables or object properties.
E.g.: vb label1.text = "There are " & myDataGridView.Rows.Count.ToString() & " items"
So, how can I set (if it's possible) the localization for these labels? I've this kind of assignment in modules and not in the form. It's possible to set a resources file also for modules?
