When i load my database i load it into a DataSet.When i search the database i load the results in to a DataTable.I want to find what index a search result has in the DataSet.When navigating the dataset i can use this code to get the index ds.Tables"Filmer").Rows.IndexOf(ds.Tables ("Filmer"). Rows(inc))But i can't make i get the dataset index of a search result from the DataTable.I thought that i could use the same code when navigating the DataTable, but it only returns.
View 3 RepliesI have a datatable that contains the rows of a database table. This table has a primary key formed by 2 columns.
The components are assigned this way: datatable -> bindingsource -> datagridview. What I want is to search a specific row (based on the primary key) to select it on the grid. I cant use the bindingsource.Find method because you only can use one column.
I have access to the datatable, so I do manually search on the datatable, but how can I get bindingsource row position based on the datatable row?
I am having nearly 20-25 textboxes on the form. I had already given tab index to those textboxes. So when i press enter, the textbox tab index must be navigated instead of tab. After entering text in TextBox1, when i press enter, it must goes to the TextBox2.How to do this?

so I have my view as a child table in my dataset. and a table called classes which is the parent table. So when I select a Class(class 1A for example), my datagridview displays the pupils in that class.
Now i need to add another relationship in the dataset. so when I select a day in a monthcalendar, I need to add 5 checkbox columns for each day to my datagridview. Should I add these 5 columns to my datatable? i'm not sure what the best way is.
Then for each day I tick I have to save to my pupil_job_day table. I will save the peoleid,their accountid and the date. please help me
I'm following advice to load data to a DataTable, binding to a BindingSource then a DataGridView. But some exzamples I've found use a DataAdapter, not a DataTable. [code]
View 3 RepliesI have a datagridview bounded to a bindingsource (that is, in turn, bounded to a dataset that is the data origin of the project) and a bindingnavigator to a Access table, all of this done with the visual designer of Visual Basic .net 2005. I want to print in a crystal report the rows shown in the datagridview after filtered using the .filter property of the datagridview. But, to achieve this, I need to get the filtered rows in a dataset, and I havenīt got this in any way. If I pass to the crystal report the main dataset origin of the project, it will print all the rows, not only the filtered rows. I would have figured out that there would be a .getfilteredrows or something like that in the bindingsource object, but there isnīt. I managed to get this manually, through a loop, but I canīt believe it is the solution experts use.

I am attemting to read a .txt file database into an xml file and then read the xml file into a DataSet and then bind the dataset to bindingSources and then subsequently bind comboboxes and text boxes to the binding source. I am struggling with how to create bindingsources with different filters. I am not sure if I am even going about this the right way. Perhaps there is a better way. I already have the program working using traditional OLEDB and creating different datatables but I wanted to be able to add and edit my datafile so I decided to convert it to a xml file.

I'm having problems with bindingsource. I have a proc used to update a datagridview from a bindingsource. When I run the debugger, the datatable appears to be populated rowcount is 2206 and 7 columns. When the bindingsource.datasource is set, everything looks good. The filter appears to be ok, however, when the datagridview is set to the bindingsource, it's not working. I have it in a try/catch block and an error isn't being raised. edit: jmc posted a nice solution to this problem in the code bank just recently but I could not get it to work in 2005, this line, "AddHandler Me.LOTBindingSource.Adapter.RowUpdated, AddressOf parentAdapter_RowUpdated" throws an error. It say "Adapter is not a member of the System.windows.forms.bindingsource.
All fields from my class objects are added to the columns collection of DataGridViews, when the forms or custom controls that contain them are viewed within the VS 2005 designer. I haven't been able to figure out how to stop the designer from auto-adding all of the fields found within the bindingsource object.

Is there any difference between using the binding navigator Delete button or adding a button to the form and in the Click event put "somebindingsource. RemoveCurrent". Basically what I'm trying to find out is if clicking the navigator Delete button causes "Removecurrent" or does it do something else or something additional.

When I drag an item from my data sources area onto my form, VS automatically creates a tableadpater, bindingsource, and bindingnavigator for me. This is great. The name it picks "xxxxxtableadapter", "xxxxxbindingsource", and "xxxxxbindingnavigator", where "xxxxx" is the tablename, is in my opinion a bit wordy.

I have a datagrid which has been bound to a datatable.If I sort the grig lets say by surname order I would like to export that datatable in that sorted order but whenever I do it never seems to be sorted.sorted order.
Basically what I see in the grid is how I want my exported table to be.
I probably shouldn't go down these roads, but stuff like this just gets to bugging me. Of course, with any of three possible database backends I should expect some quirks.I have a table that has one primary key field and several NOT NULL fields.So I do a SELECT * from the table and populate a .net datatable with the results.I can create a new row for the table, add the value for the primary key field, and then add the new row to the datatable. Everything works fine in Access.But in Oracle the situation is different.I have to supply values for all the NOT NULL fields before I can add the row to the datatable. As far as I can tell the two tables are the same in the two databases in both databases there is one PK field and the same fields are defined as NOT NULL. So why does the .net data provider for Oracle care when I try to add a row that does not have values in a NOT NULL field and the Access provider not?

there is always a space before the last 3 characters now i need to filter the datatable against a list of excluded postcode areas..these are the following format:-
BT1
BT2
BT4
BT40
so its either 2 letters & 1 number or 2 letters & 2 numbers, no 2nd part to the post code..i have a little function which builds the string, and then removes the rows from the dataset like so (ive pasted in an example postcode string)....[code]....
which obviously brings out no records as they all have full postcodes the issue is, i need to be comparing only the first half of postcode BTxx bit but cannot use a % wildcard, as this then would bring out BT40's when i only want, in this example, BT2 & BT4's..so is there a way to make it compare against the first half of the postcode?
Is it possible in to filter out certain columns from a datatable? If suppose a datatable dt1 has 3 columns and I want to have a new datatable dt2 with the values of only 1 column from dt1 then what is the best approach to do it? I know a rowfilter exists for dataview of a datatable but there is no column filter as such.

I'm adding a DateTime DataColumn to a DataTable like this:

Then when I try to add it to my datatable, if the value is Nothing I get an error saying string was not recognized as a valid DateTime. I'm having trouble getting this to work.
I am working with two different connections because the information I need is stored in two different locations. One being Oracle, the other being Access. I pull all the information I need from Access with the exception of one field which I pull from Oracle. When I add this field to my datatable, it adds it to the end. I am wanting the column that I add to be between column 1 and 2 of my current datatable. Anyone know the best way to do this? From what I could find, there wasn't a way to re-arrange columns.
