I'm making a program and in which the user can select a background image from their computer, but I have not found a way to save the picture to my.settings or my.resources

I'm trying to save a setting that keeps what background image I'm currently using.If it's an external file, there is no problem, i can just get the .location and set it in a String setting to store it.
But, if I want to store an image resource as a setting, how do i do it?I know i can store rawdata, like bitmap information, but then i can't set that type of data to the my.background.
I don't know if the question should be: "how do i reference resources", but the my.resources.resource.methodsList doesnt contain anything that seems to be of use.
is it possible to cycle through background images from my resources for a button by pressing it the button, what's the simplest code to do this?

I am trying to add my graphics folder to the resources folder in my project but I get some kind of error. That's the easy question. I know that I have do this through project > settings, but I don't know how to program it. I have managed to allow the user to change background, but dont how to save it. Could anyone solve this little problem for me?

I already understand referencing a image using My.Resources.(Image name), But this won't work for my current situation, because the image name is in a string so I can't Hard-Code it into the program. IE. The file name is found by doing the statement:Filename = "_" + poke + "_"
Where poke is as string that contains the name of the file. The normal way to call this would be to use My.Resources._(contents of poke)_ but that doesn't work since i can't just inject the contents of poke into the line without making the entire thing a string, and by making it a string that command doesn't work normally.
I just can't seem to find a guide anywhere that talks about this, and I've been stuck on this for quite some time now. I've been able to reference XML's that are included the same way as the images using My.Resources.Resourcemanager.Geobject but this doesn't seem to work for the Images, and I haven't found any other way.
I previously wrote a thread asking how to change a picture according to button movement in which i loaded the pictures from my C: drive. Well i have added the image files into my resources in my project and i was wondering if i could get more incite on loading the picture from the resuorces rather then the C: drive.
View 2 RepliesRecently I uninstalled and reinstalled Visual Studio 2008. Before that, Visual Studio compress images that I put in the Resources folder. In this folder I put images in PNG format for use in the project. When I was compiling the project, the executable was of a size much smaller than the sum of the bytes of the images as they were compressing in the compilation. The sum of the size of the images gives a 47MB, and the file compiled with the images was around 3.5 MB. But now the images are not compressed. For the resulting executable with the build is about 48 MB ... I'm deducing the problem is because the images were not compressed ...is it so?

View 7 RepliesI set up some application settings for checkboxes on an app and then decided to remove them. When I set the Application Settings to (none) in the designer and restarted the app, the checkbox constantly checks and unchecks itself. I completely remade the app and removed the file that is used to store my.settings in the Local folder of the user's appdata profile. I also made sure to uncheck the "save my.settings" on shutdown.

Assuming I have an Excel report (see f.csv) below, I open it as an Excel, embed the picture and then save.I found the following code in one of the websites. It's working but still there is a problem that it always ask me to confirm the overwriting of the file. I want to save it automatically without asking the user about it, but can't find if that's possible. See below I tried "SaveAs" and "Save" but it always ask me to confirm overwriting.

I just wondered if you can or can't save arrays using the settings system object. There seems to be no way of entering it at designtime. It seems implied you cannot create new user settings.subobjects at runtime. I'm looking to find the easiest way to save a populated array of PictureBox's. If the only way is a self/custom made/managed .ini file then I need to know so i can start on that but I was hoping to use some of all this phaff in the new frameworks usefully.

I'm trying to make an application that downloads all the images from a photo album on the web. The user will navigate to the first image in the gallery and the program should download all images in full resolution automatically.
I have a working version now, but it is not satisfactory. Here is a simplified version of the code I use now for saving the images:

This way, after the page with the image has fully loaded, it downloads the image using the Network.DownloadFile-method. So, it download the same file twice. But these files are big and websites are slow. Which makes the whole operation take about twice as long as it has to.
Is there a way to directly save the image-file that has already loaded in the WebBrowser-control, without having to download the image again?
i have created a user setting named 'setmeup' as string, scope = user, value = "magical meow meow!".in my code i access it and assign it a new value like this...my.settings.setmeup = "howdy cowboy!"my.settings.save()application.restart()when the application restarts, i expect the my.settings.setmeup = "howdy cowboy!" but when i check its contents its still "magical meow meow!".but when i use application.exit() instead of application.restart() and manually restart the program, my.settings.setmeup = "howdy cowboy!" which is correct.what must i do? i want to use application.restart() because i don't want the users to double-click the icon again to start the program. i want the program to restart automatically.

View 3 RepliesI was thinking to make an app to save images [or download images] to local hard disk. But to keep it easy, I want this app to create a small picturebox on form to show the thumbnail of downloaded image. Lets say a 5 pictureboxes has to be added with the thumbnails to show the recent downloads. A user can save the location where he wants to save the files on hard disk. A listbox or a dropdown menu will help in categorizing the images, like image1 in friends section, image2 in family section, image3 in others, etc... When the program restarts all the latest 5 thumbnails has to be loaded in pictureboxes and the directory that was chosen. Finally, a button that shows the downloaded images into original image file size one by one or a slide show. Is it possible to make such program?
View 2 Repliestrying to save the settings in a settings form but every time m setting the settings (when the form is running) then exiting it and then reopening itare the settings that i setted not there Ex : I open form2 by clicking on a button thought form1 and change the settings for example i uncheck a checkbox then do i close form2 and then open it again. And the settings should be saved so the unchecked checkbox should still be unchecked.BUT when i close form1 should the settings be unsaved and go back to normal :)
