View 3 RepliesWhile testing my software a friend of mine got the following Error: "Access to the database file is not allowed. [File name = ...etc..." I found out that this has to do with the user rights in Vista (perhaps also XP). How can I solve this?
View 3 RepliesMy.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile(My.Computer.FileSystem.CombinePath(My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.ProgramFiles, "Myprogramfile.txt"))But when I try this it will only work when the program runs with administrator rights. Is there a way to let the program work this way that no administrator rights are needed, or that the program may only boot up as administrator? So they won't be allowed to boot it up without administator rights. (I do not mean to force the administrator, but only to let them press "accept" or "cancel" in the UAC pupop
View 5 Repliesi currently have a project that needs to edit a few files in the startuppath folder. on a non administrator o.s., if my app. is installed in ( c:program filesmy crappy little app ), i cannot write to those files. in win7, it does not even ask for administrator approval, just the option to save to my documents.. this can be quite a hassle to work with, specially on closing the app, since i have quite a few files that need to be updated.

And how to make the exe can just only run in administrator?
I have tried to set the .manifest to "<requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false" />", but no use. Although I am not logged in as admin, I can still run the exe.
I have wanted to ask. I have a table tlogin. user_nm the first field and second field pass. so when the login form, if I login as admin then there is a special menu for admin.

View 13 RepliesBackground: I have 2 Apps. One spawns the other as a 2nd process. Both need Adminstrator rights to run.The below code (which spawns the 2nd app from the 1st) works just fine from my released Application (when I right click the 1st app icon and start as Administrator).
Problem is, from within the VB Express environment it does not. The 2nd app starts, then complains about Access Rights. Can I start a process with Administrator rights in Windows 7 from within the environment?

View 1 Repliesi realise that currently there is not built-in class for the checking of the current user folder in visual basic .net. anyone can advised the workaround for this. E.g. if user123 login to the machine, the code will return "c:useruser123"

I'm wondering how to achieve suppose the admin logged in,then the menus will be shown?
If DateTimePicker1.Value.Year <= DateTimePicker2.Value.Year Then 'dtp2 = expiry date
If DateTimePicker1.Value.Month <= DateTimePicker2.Value.Month Then
MsgBox("Expiry Date Correct!")
Else
MsgBox("Expiry Date incorrect!")
End If
End If
How would I get it to check the date? Datetimepicker1 is the current date, while Datetimepicker2 is the expiry date.
How would I get the current user's folder?Example:"C:Documents and SettingsOwner"

View 3 Repliescan i request a sample code for a library system.. MS Access for the database the program should have:
a. User Login for Members and Administrator
b. Different access control for the two accounts
c. Program saved in a database
d. Can generate reports
i just want to ask if how will i get the user and his permission..
ex: i want to know if the login user of the pc is a member of administrator.
I need to read the distinguished name of the current user (the one running the program) from Active Directory.I'm warm (I know I should use System. DirectoryServices and DirectorySearcher), but somehow I can't get the code to work properly, nor can I find a working example. Now, after having spent hours searching for examples on the internet, I'm getting quite frustrated with myself, so I turn to you hoping someone can provide an example. Why I need this: when people run this program, it needs to detect which OU they belong to. We have several sites (for example Rotterdam and Amsterdam) and depending on what site the user's OU is, I need to perform some actions. So I hope to derive f.e. "OU=Rotterdam" from their DN.

I'm trying to make my application compatibile with Vista/7 UAC so I created a manifest file that gives me adminstrator rights which works great but the only problem that when my application tries to run with windows (via registry key I added) the application just won't run, and ideas how to run my application with admin rights when it loads up with windows?
View 7 RepliesIn my application I have a several type of user could be log in. My purpose is to have a restriction with other menu to show on or off. In php I used a session to handle that user id. In vb.net how can assign user id and retrieve anytime I need it in every user that has been logged in, so that I can check the user type and do some action.
View 8 RepliesI use a SqlDataAdapter to fill a DataTable and then set that DataTable as the DataSource for a DataGridView. All works well. Then I add a column at the beginning of the DataGridView that will allow a user to check/uncheck a row for further processing. All works well. Then I display this to the user. All works well.
Since there are many times when the DataGridView could be displaying hundreds or maybe thousands of records, I have a button that will "Check All" records and another that will "Clear All" records. These work fine, but I've noticed a serious performance lag. Other test code that I've got shows that in an unbound DataGridView, even a large one with 50+ columns and 5000 rows, checking or unchecking all of these fields takes mere fractions of a second. (One test with 50 columns and 50,000 rows still only takes 0.334 seconds to check all of the rows.)
In my testing (with my current code), checking/unchecking 500 rows takes 15 seconds. Is this because the DataGridView is databound? If so, is there a way to UNbind it (making it simply a stand-alone set of data)? I don't need to push updates back to the server, so there's no danger in removing any databinding. I've even toyed around with this (to make the DGV unbound):

I've made an application that is meant to be run without administrator privileges in Windows Vista / 7, because UAC disables drag and drop events from lower applications into higher ones, because they could pass bad information into the high trust ones [for example, standard explorer cannot pass files into my program that a user might run in administrator].
[Code]....
My application is like this : i have to search my data from database with some check box and text box when user select check box specific function go on and then when user enters some range of value in textbox then the result will shown in data grid view after that i can print it by selecting data
my vb.net code is as follow:
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class XtraForm1
[CODE]............
I m also pasting the demo picture.
I wrote an app, and in win7 it only works perfectly when ran as an admin, cause it moves some files etc.
