Is there any function or collection in VB.NET that checks if a string is a word? Like a dictionary?I'm making a random word generator, and I can get it to generate random strings, but it's be better if they were actual English words..I know something like System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary would work, but wouldn't you first have to add all of the words into the Dictionary?I guess what I'm looking for is a Collections.Generic.Dictionary with English words preloaded into it?

I am trying to check each letter of a word if that word doesn't contain (AEIOUY) then I have to append (-way) to the end of the word. Now I have this if statement and it doesn't work:
If OriginalWord.ToUpper Like "*[!AEIOUY]*" Then
Label1.Text = OriginalWord & "-way"
End If
I need to append a (-way) to the end of a word that doesn't have (AEIOUY)

I'm trying to write a function to find a word in a string in the this format : "ThisissometextthatIneedtofindandthisisthetext. This is another text."It's read as " This is some text that I need to find and this is the text. This is another text." but there is no space between each word. I want to get the word "text" or any word in that string. Can you help me with this function with a code sample ?
And I think that this method can be implemented with a string of Unicode also because in a sentence of Unicode it contains one or few, sometimes zero spaces between each word.

I need to obtain the characters of a "string" from certain word (word "Repair") and including this word. This word is never in the same position.
Example string:
"Model: Machine: abcde Repair: getthis!"
I need to get: "Repair: getthis! "
Other example

I want to check each of the strings in an array (currently in a hashtable, but that shouldn't necessarily matter right?) with the user's input, if the words in each of them match. This might have sounded a little tricky so let me elaborate.
Problem: Comparing an input string with a collection of strings, and know which string in the collection matches the input string the most - based on words. What I'm trying to do here is a chatbot that works with keywords. For example, in the bot script, you could find "HOW ARE YOU" and the response "I am fine." If the user then sends input to this bot, it could look like this: [Code] This may not sound like a tricky thing, but the tricky part comes when I want to know which of the strings (e.g. "HOW ARE YOU") match the input string the most, based on the words.

I have a form that has a large number of labels. Is there a way I can move the focus from label to label. After I move the focus I'll check if the name of the label has a certain string in it. If it does then I'll leave the focus at that label. If it doesn't I'll move the focus to the next label and check if that label name has the string in it. I just need to know how to move the focus from label to label. I was trying SelectNextControl without success. Maybe I can tab programmatically to the next label but I don't know how to do that.

I am trying to create a function that searches each line of a richtextbox and returns that row if one of many search phrases are found.The app works wonderfully when used with longer words or muli word phrases as the search criteria.The problem I have is if the search word/ criteria contains a small string such as bae or sp then I get alot of false positives. Anytime bae or sp is found within any word it returns the results.I need the function to stop looking within the words for results and instead look at the word as a whole for a match.Below you can see that I am taking each line of text in the richtextbox, removing most non-alpha numberic characters and replacing them with spaces.Then I have it remove any double spaces with single spaces.For the search term list I have it take the text before the delimiter;and do the same.Trouble I am having is,if the search term is SP and the search phrase is "This is a space shuttle lauch"it will return the sentence since the sentence contains the word "space" which starts with sp.[code]

I want to add an if statement that checks if there are no hyperlinks in the document and if there are no hyperlinks display a message that there are no hyperlinks in this document.The problem is that Word is divided in stories, so the body of the document is a separate story from the footnotes story of the same document.So when I attempt to check for hyperlinks the if statement checks the body of the document first and if there are no hyperlinks in the body, then exits the program even though there may be hyperlinks in the footnotes story.

Problem: Your task is to take input from the user in string and give the following options to the user in a menu.
1- Find a String
2- Create sub-string
3- Erase a portion of a sting
4- Replace a word in the string
5- Count number of words and characters in the string without spaces.
6- Capitalize first character of each new sentence and convert the rest
of the characters to lower case.
7- Sort all the words in alphabetical order. (Use Bubble sort algorithm to perform sorting).
To perform all the above mentioned tasks you can only use pointers. Create a function to perform every task.

The following code allows words to be added to a listbox. Add the word to a text file and create a folder with the word as its name. The second part undoes the actions.If I try to delete the word immediately after adding it one of two things happen.
1.An error is reported stating the path cannot be found. Although the listbox index value is correct according to the code the error is pointing at that index +1.
2.The code continues to the point of requesting conformation to delete the folder, still pointing at the index value +1. I the action is confirmed the wrong folder is deleted.
However if I stop debugging, then run the code again all works correctly.Is it likely to persist when the application is compiled?

My question is how to check a letter exist in a word. For example this word: 'computer' and I give in a textbox letter 'a' then the result will be false because 'computer' doesn't exist a letter 'a' else if I give letter 'c' the result will be true because computer has a 'c'.

Now, when I say "word check" I don't actually mean spell check or something like that, I just couldn't find a good 1 or 2 words explanation. (I use Visual Basic 2010). I recently started wondering about how Microsoft would go about checking the text and checking its color, word order (spell check), etc. and I was trying to think of how they would do it if they were forced to write something, like Word or the text editor in Visual Studio, in Visual Basic.NET. Ways that I thought of could be using an array, setting a string to a word in that array, and check if that word is in the text. However, after I tried it, I realized I had to set the .SelectionStart property to zero, which got annoying if the document was long. Also, with arrays, though I could store the strings in a text file and read from that, I was limited to the number of items I could have, and I'm sure it would get frustrating if I added or subtracted a word (then having to back in the code and replace all of the instances of that array.)
Then I started thinking about streams. Though I have not tried them yet, I would imagine that if they had to be used, the problem of speed would come up again. But what if the stream only checked say 30 characters before and after the current selection start? Well, that would solve the speed problem, but it would bring up another. Every time the caret position changed, (if we were checking for color changing) we would be limited to those 60 characters. Say the word is "hello". What if "hello" began 31 characters behind the current SelectionStart? "h" would remain the same color, but "ello" would turn the default color (this is because we would have to reset the color everytime just in case the user changed a certain word.)
