View 2 RepliesI was able to get some code working to create a dummy file to fill the remaining space of a flash drive. However, I have added a progress bar and can't figure out why it's not working. I declare a variable for the current value, min, & max properities of the progressbar and then increment it by 1 during each step of my FOR loop. However, I never see anything on the progress bar.
Dim CurVal As Integer
Dim RandomNumber As Byte
'Create the dummyfile to take up the remaining space on the drive

I am making just a simple program that will create backup dummies of all the files in a specified folder. All I have is 2 text boxes, A and B, and a button to do the magic. What I want is for the user to input into Text Box A the location of all the files, and in Text Box B place in the destination folder, then when the button is pressed it will get the name of each file using a loop and recreate a new file with the same name and extension in the destination folder

C:FolderX has 10 files in it, each with the same extension (.wav), each file is ranging from 10mb to 100mb (this size is irrelevant)
C:FolderY is empty
What I want to do is create each file from X into Y, however the files are all 0 bytes (no data inside them). I've managed to get a simple script that will do what I need but only if I specify the file name:
Code:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim Filename As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetName(TextBox1.Text + "test.wav")
Dim SaveP As New System.IO.StreamWriter(TextBox2.Text + Filename)
SaveP.Close()
MsgBox("Files Created")
But what I need is someone to show me how to create a loop that will do this for each file in the folder, without me specifying each filename.
After I run the setup to install the program, I will use the program to capture image and answer a survey.Having said that, I have a folder contains image of image capture and database using Ms Access 2007 in my program . Is it possible to make it both in one zip folder (Embedded both together in one folder and locate it in desktop?

I have discovered Environment.SpecialFolder.MyDocuments and My.Computer.Filesystem.SpecialFolder.MyDocuments
I know how to check if the folder exists, but it's awfully difficult to find a way to create a folder in a 'special folder'.
How do I programmatically create a folder in the users 'My Documents'?
The following code allows words to be added to a listbox. Add the word to a text file and create a folder with the word as its name. The second part undoes the actions. If I try to delete the word immediately after adding it one of two things happen.
1.An error is reported stating the path cannot be found. Although the listbox index value is correct according to the code the error is pointing at that index +1.
2.The code continues to the point of requesting conformation to delete the folder, still pointing at the index value +1. I the action is confirmed the wrong folder is deleted.
However if I stop debugging, then run the code again all works correctly. Is it likely to persist when the application is compiled?

View 4 RepliesI am making a file program that will store information that a user can not edit without using my file system. The only two ways I can see how to do this is to either create an invisible folder to hold the files, or make my own extension. I think it would be easier to create an invisible folder through VB if possible. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Firstly i want to open and select a path and display it in textbox 1, then i`ll use textbox 2 too create the folder.

My.Computer.FileSystem.CreateDirectory(Environ("%UserProfile%") & "Desktopabc")
Here's my code: System.IO.File.Move(Form6.OpenFileDialog1.FileName, "Temp") I'm trying to make it so that the program copies the file that you select in the OpenFileDialog and moves it into the "Temp" folder. It gives me an error saying: Cannot create file when file already exists.
View 7 Repliesi have created a program to view images in a picturebox, i have created two list box's one for folder names/image areas to group certaint images and the second listbox to list the number of pages contained in the image folder/area. when the user creates a new image area, he or she can name it whatever they want, when they do that i would like to create a folder in the c drive for instance with the same name as the image area, and i would want it to create a .txt file aswell to keep memory of what they have done, so when they come back to it the next day they can just carry on from where they left off.

This work fine and create default text files into Program Files Folder for winodw 7/vista .but can not modify these files or create any new files. There are few text files need to create ,modify during application running ,but in windows 7/vista unable to create, modify files.I am using full default admin right for these OS. If iuse C: root path then application work fine or for win XP no problem.I think UAC restricting to perform these opeartion. But i do not know how to change these restriction using vb.net, whenever application start.
View 5 RepliesMake a folder, based on an input file - example :
You have a file named Movie1.avi on your desktop, u open up the program (that I want to make) and then simply drag drop that file into a box area, and then the program will create a folder, with the same name as the input file, but without the extension (folder name Movie1) and then automatically put that file into the folder it just created.
The new folder will be created in the same dir as the input file.
Multiple file support - is NOT needed.
I know how it will be done, but I don't know the code..
i have a list box which is populated with the sub folders from a user selected folder, so the listbox item count varies from 2 item to 1000 items etc.The list box code i use to do this is:
Dim lb1s As String = Form1.Folder.SelectedPath
Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(lb1s)
Dim mydirInfoArray As IO.DirectoryInfo() = di.GetDirectories
Im trying to make a feature were on a button click the app will create 1 folder for every item on the listbox (named after the list box item)So if theres 3 items on the list box for example:
001
002
band 3
[code]....
And when the user presses the button, the app will create 3 dupe folders (Only the folders, not the contents) in a user selected directory using the same names, ive been tinkering for a little while but cant seem to figure out a way to implement this.
I'm trying to create a new folder after a button is clicked, though it's not working.
vb
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(FolderBrowserDialog1.SelectedPath)
End Sub

I found one solution that , if change user rights manually then this problem solved.Follow these step to change your account settings.Control Panel-->User Accounts and Family Safety-->User Accounts-->Change User Account Control settings-->Never notify(Set tab to never notify). After this change need to restart system. Now can make all changes like windows XP into Windows 7.can also make changes into program files.
Its working fine, but need to make these changes manually in OS.but its not efficent solution. So if any one knows how can make these changes by coding that will nice.
