VS 2008 Fading To Black With A Delay
Jul 20, 2011
I am a VB hobbyist and a new one at that. I am trying to create a transition effect in VB.NET 2008 when a certain form closes. The transition will take the form's current BackColor and slowly drop all the RGB values in it to 0 via a loop, obtaining a Fade to Black transition. I was able to come up with the code below. It works great. Maybe too great. It goes so fast that there is no transition. To the human eye it looks like the screen just went black instantly. Is there an easy way to enable a delay or pause in the below code to slow the loop down so that the end user sees the transition, and not just a quick jump to black?

I'm studying Visual Basic (using Visual Studio 2008) as part of an all-round IT foundation degree...I must confess that programming is becoming my weak spot! Unlike the C++ I was taught last year, I'm not finding VB too easy...probably becasue I've never programmed this way before and I've missed a couple of lessons.

I'm working on a windows toolbar that I'd like to fade when the cursor is pulled away. I'm not quite sure if there is an event to check for Mouse Movement OVER the title bar though?! (my code below fades the form when I put the cursor over the forms title bar).

I'm using VS 2008 under Windows 7. When I hover the mouse over a variable in debug mode, the value will fade in slowly. Sometimes it is annoyingly slow, I just want the value to show up, no animation or fading. Or is this fading feature a Windows thing and not a VS thing?

I know that time delays have been covered before around almost everywhere. however a method that forgoes forcing the GUI to become temporarily non-responsive, is all but a myth, or at least to my findings. i have the need for a GUI program to delay before the next command, however using the current method, detailed following, it causes the desired effect however it dose make it much less polished as when you click anything else on the GUI it goes un-responsive for the directed time. [Code] make a sub called say Tdelay( milseconds as integer) and have it run a loop as many times as the milseconds variable indicates and each time making the thread delay for 1 milsecond and then update the GUI/form in some way, then re-loop.

On my login form I have a username text box and a password text box...
The TxtUsername text box is preset with the following:
Text: Username
Colour: Gray
Here is the code for the TxtUsername (on click):
Private Sub TxtUsername_Click
TxtUsername.Text = ""
TxtUsername.ForeColor = Color.Black
(So it's like the facebook login if your familiar with it)When user clicks the text box, the gray text already inside gets erased and user is able to type with black text.The problem is that even when the user has typed in the box, every time you click the text box the text still gets erased....It's like the code should be something like If TxtUsername.Text = Anything but "Username" then dont change it to ""

I am trying to make a calculator program. I would like the display(text box) to have a white background, with black font. So I set the "enabled" property of the textbox to "false"(because I want it to display, not receive input) and then choose the background colour to be white. In the form designer, the text colour is black, which is what I want.But when I start debugging, the text becomes the colour of the form. How can I make the font black?

I have an application in which I save transactions. So I have a datagridview populated with records and i test for changes in the datatable when saving.then i loop through the changed rows and save in the following order:I have a command that saves a wage.then a command that saves interest.I use this to save as a transactiondate:
acccmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@TransactionDate", tdate.Date + Date.Now.TimeOfDay)
then the other command :
intcmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@TransactionDate", tdate.Date + Date.Now.TimeOfDay)
but sometimes the code is executing the two commands on the exact same time. Now I have a query that displays a running total and on order for the running total to work properly no two transactions should have the same datetime for a particular person.how can I add a delay between the two commands to ensure the datetimes are saved differently?

I am puzzled by a delay in my data appearing (sql sever) when I open my program. (this can be around 5 to 6 seconds). If I open it a second time it appears instantly, have I done something wrong, or not done something. I have connect to a MS access database that connection is instant always.

I am using serial port to send packets in a form. There is a delay between two common packets, say 20 seconds. I used to use sleep to delay 20s before the second packet send.But sometimes I need to send a special packet every 4 seconds to keep device alive before the 2nd packet send. But during sleeping I cannot do anything.Per a suggestion yesterday from an expert, I changed to use timer solution. I set Timer1.interval = 4,000 and Timer2.interval = 20,000 and enable Timer1 and Timer2 after the 1st packet in Form1. After the 2nd packet is read to buffer, I use "while" to wait there until 20s overflow in Timer2 to send this common packet out. At the meantime, Timer1 is supposed to overflow every 4s to send the special packet. Now the problem is:

I've got a VB.NET form that's got a ListView control, Tab Control and custom control. Ideally want the ListView and Tab controls to be faded while the user is entering data in the custom control. It seems these sorts of control don't have any opacity settings. Is there any way to set the opacity?

A while ago I wrote something that was incredibly simple, however it was 3 years ago and I can't for the life of me find where I saved it(upgraded computers twice since then and a few things managed to disapear in the process) I tried for the last few days trying to figure out how I did it and realized that someone may be able to see what I cannot.

Anyone got any ideas on how i would go about fading in/out a textbox? Because only forms have opacity properties i was thinking of something like setting the background color to transparent and setting the forecolor of the text to the same as the background color. Then using a timer i could slowly change it to black, etc.

When creating a right click (ContextMenuStrip) menu for a systray (NotifyIcon) icon, how do I give it the same style as most other context menus? Most other menus have a nice fade inout when right clicking on the system tray Icon. In addition they respond immediately when moving between nested levels. I cannot replicate this in Visual Studio 2008 using a simple form, NotifyIcon and ContextMenuStrip assigned. The menu appears harshly with no fade effect regardless of any property.

OK, if any of you use Facebook, you'll know what I mean, you click Share after you type in what you want, and it pushes everything else down, fades in, and slides. I need that to happen, and I need it to happen with labels because I can get the code for a textbox to work, but without the awesome effect.
