VS 2008 : Adding A One Second Delay Between Execution Of Commands?

Feb 20, 2010

I have an application in which I save transactions. So I have a datagridview populated with records and i test for changes in the datatable when saving.then i loop through the changed rows and save in the following order:I have a command that saves a wage.then a command that saves interest.I use this to save as a transactiondate:

acccmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@TransactionDate", tdate.Date + Date.Now.TimeOfDay)

then the other command :

intcmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@TransactionDate", tdate.Date + Date.Now.TimeOfDay)

but sometimes the code is executing the two commands on the exact same time. Now I have a query that displays a running total and on order for the running total to work properly no two transactions should have the same datetime for a particular person.how can I add a delay between the two commands to ensure the datetimes are saved differently?

Delay The Execution Of The Send Key Command?

Apr 16, 2012

I am trying to delay the execution of the send key command. In VB script, it was relatively easy:

obj.sendkeys "{enter}"
wscript.sleep 1000
obj.sendkeys "{tab} {tab}"

When I do it via VB express, it is clumping the code together. For example

Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)
SendKeys.Send("enter was entered ")
Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)
SendKeys.Send("double tab was input ")

Instead of pausing for 5 seconds, typing the keys then pausing for another 5 seconds, it pauses for 10 seconds and then immediately types the input. I tested this on notepad.

How do I replicate the sleep feature in VB script into VB? There appears not to be a sleep feature in VB Express 2010

VS 2010 - Creating Delay In Between Two Commands Of Script

Jun 16, 2011

I am currently in the process of writing a demonstrative program that will generate a string of 9 random numbers in a textbox. Now my basic knowledge of VB 2010 allows me to do this but my goal is to delay the generation of this number sequence until the my progress bar has progressed to the end. How can I insert a delay after my button activates my progress bar/timer without stopping all function and usability of the program all together. The basic wait function seems to lock everything up for the allotted time and then the number instantly generates and the progress bar begins.

Get SQL Commands (adding, Updating, Deleting) To Work With A VB 2010 Database?

Feb 12, 2012

My project involves making a table database that displays student number, surname, first name, homeroom, and grade avg. Through SQL commands, there must be functions to add, update, delete, search by field, and save records to the database.I have already set the database up just fine and displayed it in a DataGridView. Through the DataGridView, I was able to go to the "Add Query" area, and I successfully made the queries necessary for searching by field. However, when I try to do anything other than a search using the query builder (ie start my SQL command with INSERT INTO or DELETE FROM), I ultimately get the message "Failed to get schema for this query"For example, this SQL code (to add an entry to the database) worked when I was in the Query Builder (and the entry that it made is still in the database), but when I finally tried to confirm it, I got the "Failed to get schema for this query" message.Being unable to add entries to the database this way, I tried to do it with textboxes on a form. Each textbox will have one of the fields, and at the click of a button, they would be put into the table. My code is below. I do not know what is wrong withit. When I run it, my fields do not appear on the DataGridView immediately, but I must run the program again to see it. The time after, the entry is gone. So I am not sure how exactly such entries are to be saved.

Time Delay - Make GUI Program To Delay Before The Next Command

Dec 21, 2009

I know that time delays have been covered before around almost everywhere. however a method that forgoes forcing the GUI to become temporarily non-responsive, is all but a myth, or at least to my findings. i have the need for a GUI program to delay before the next command, however using the current method, detailed following, it causes the desired effect however it dose make it much less polished as when you click anything else on the GUI it goes un-responsive for the directed time. [Code] make a sub called say Tdelay( milseconds as integer) and have it run a loop as many times as the milseconds variable indicates and each time making the thread delay for 1 milsecond and then update the GUI/form in some way, then re-loop.

VS 2008 Fading To Black With A Delay

Jul 20, 2011

I am a VB hobbyist and a new one at that. I am trying to create a transition effect in VB.NET 2008 when a certain form closes. The transition will take the form's current BackColor and slowly drop all the RGB values in it to 0 via a loop, obtaining a Fade to Black transition. I was able to come up with the code below. It works great. Maybe too great. It goes so fast that there is no transition. To the human eye it looks like the screen just went black instantly. Is there an easy way to enable a delay or pause in the below code to slow the loop down so that the end user sees the transition, and not just a quick jump to black?

Increase Speed Of Execution In .NET 2008?

Aug 10, 2009

i am trying to complete a project. My task is to read large TXT files (300 files, 2.2 GB in total) read the customers inside, perform some data calculation and write each customer data to a separate txt file.

I made a code in VB6, it runs fine, however it takes 8 days to run on a quadcore processor, utilizing 20-30% of the CPU. Now I upgraded the code and am running on VB.NET 2008, the latest version. The speed still remains the same, and the CPU usage is also about the same.

Anyway I can make this process faster. I have a quadcore PC with 8GB of ram, possible to maybe make VB utilize all the CPU say 100%? so it executes atleast 2 to 3 times faster.

VS 2008 : Slow Execution Speed During Windows Startup?

Mar 30, 2009

For some reason, .NET applications that I've written seem to have issues if they're launched when Windows starts (by being in the Startup folder for instance). An application that can finish in 3/10 of a second if one launches it normally may seriously take 45-90 seconds to finish if it was launched when Windows loads. Even if I just manually wait 30 seconds after login and launch the program, it'll complete virtually instantly while a copy launched at startup is still struggling along, so it isn't just that Windows is still loading...this continues AFTER that finishes and all HDD activity stops.Writing something to disk using an IO.anything goes at about 20KB/s during this event.

VS 2008 Timer Delay In VS 2008?

Jul 8, 2009

I am using serial port to send packets in a form. There is a delay between two common packets, say 20 seconds. I used to use sleep to delay 20s before the second packet send. But sometimes I need to send a special packet every 4 seconds to keep device alive before the 2nd packet send. But during sleeping I cannot do anything.Per a suggestion yesterday from an expert, I changed to use timer solution. I set Timer1.interval = 4,000 and Timer2.interval = 20,000 and enable Timer1 and Timer2 after the 1st packet in Form1. After the 2nd packet is read to buffer, I use "while" to wait there until 20s overflow in Timer2 to send this common packet out. At the meantime, Timer1 is supposed to overflow every 4s to send the special packet. Now the problem is:

Using Keydown Commands In 2008?

Apr 8, 2009

I am extremely new to visual basic and it is the first time i have ever tried to program anything. I am currently using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition which I downloaded for free off of the mictosoft website. Anyhow, to the question at hand: I was wondering how one would use keydown commands in VB express 2008. I have looked far and wide and have yet to find an answer to this. To simplify it to a specifit answer how would I move (or rather, slide), say, a picturebox to the left of the screen by holding down the left arrow key and have the picturebox stop moving after I released the arrow key. By simply seeing how the code is I should be able to do it for any other keydowns.

VS 2008 - SQL Data Adapter Commands Parameters

I have a very large table, and I have a sql data adapter to fill a data table. The user is able to change some values, then saves the changes, at this point i just call the adapter update method (I use the sql command builder to get all the commands of the adapter). What I need it's to make some changes to 4 parameters in the update command, before calling the update command, but I don't see how to do this? Before the update itself, I don't have any values, if I set the parameters (I saw the number of the parameters in the debug mode), before the update, that doesn't do anything, I think they get override in the update method...
