I fill a datatable using the dataadapter. and i set the adapter.missingschemaaction = missingschemaaction.AddwithKey. i set the insertcommand,updatecommand and deletecommand for the adapter as well.however, when i click on the datagridview to add new rows a new temporary primary key is not generated in my datatable.I've done this with access and sql server 2005 with no problems. im using MySQL.Net connector 6.1.2

MVC3, VB.NET, using EF. I am working on coding up a simple function to handle checking for a valid MySQL connection. If the connection fails the test it will use the secondary server connection. This is required because our hosting provider does not provide failover or redundant MySQL servers. The problem is I tried to use a simple try catch method in the HomeController. This fails early because the Entity Framework is looking the connection that was set up when I set it up... Is there anyway to control that connection dynamically?

View 22 RepliesI'm trying to make an application for beta testers in my design group so that they can easily send their reports back to the developers. Designing the user interface is not the problem.it's the coding. What I want to do is let the user select a radio button for the project they are testing, then fill in some text fields, select options, etc regarding the project tests, then when they are done, click "submit" and it will either send the data to a specific email address (internally coded, not input by the user) or send the data in a text file to a directory on my server. (whichever method works/is easier) I'm not the best programmer, so don't yell at me if I'm slow to understand anything, LOL.

I have 3 controls sharing the same Bindingsource.Each control will require a different parameter for the query call to the DB to populate the proper controls data.However each control is filled with the same data and using one ctrl has the same effect to the thre controls. The user is able to change some values, then saves the changes, at this point i just call the adapter update method (I use the sql command builder to get all the commands of the adapter). What I need it's to make some changes to 4 parameters in the update command, before calling the update command, but I don't see how to do this? Before the update itself, I don't have any values, if I set the parameters (I saw the number of the parameters in the debug mode), before the update, that doesn't do anything, I think they get override in the update method...

View 4 RepliesI've got lots of textboxes bound to a Dataset. When I make changes to a textbox with the mouse/keyboard the rowstate becomes changed - and when I do the .EndEdit and update the row it goes to the DB.
I've got some textboxes that get changed in code. When this happens the rowstate remains UNCHANGED. Updates to the DB never occur.If the textbox is changed in code and I also change another textbox in the UI then both changes make it to the DB.
I've verified that the "in-code" changed field in the dataset is actually changed - but the ROWSTATE is still printing as UNCHANGED.Here I'm showing that field 29 has changed to "blank" - but the RowState still is UNCHANGED. Why would changes to the .Text property of a bound control does programatically not change the row state?
Seems a google for this does uncover issues like this - but nothing that's helped me fix it so far - here's one link I can't make sense of[URL]..

The code works fine with a smaller database, so i was just wondering the problem is that the database is too big and the adapter isn't able to handle such a long query. I was just wondering if anyone knows what kind of limits there are?
Only my local dataset updates when adding, deleting or editing records.The Source Database is supposed to update on issuing DataAdapter. Update(dataset )However, when I check my source database after running the operations it remains the same as the original.

I am accessing an sqlite database file from my VB.NET application.Currently, I use Try... Catch when opening the connection to the database, however if the database is locked by another application, it will take 5-10 seconds to throw the exception which says that the database is locked.
So I want to know if there is a way to test if the database is locked before I try to open the connection... because the long 5-10 second pause is annoying.
I need test data for a IP Subnet calculator I have developed. I have tested some obvious scenarios, and all seems good, but the person developing can often be the wrong person to test.
The calculator can do one of two things:
1 - given an existing network and CIDR(mask), and a new CIDR it will create a number of networks with the appropriate number of hosts.
2 - given an existing network and CIDR(mask), and a list of c,h, (c = count, h=number of hosts) it will create the networks.
I need to make a condition such that my program waits until the webpage is completely loaded before executing my provided commands.

I recently upgraded to Vista Business from XP Home. I found that my Visual Basic 2008 graphics applications is running much much slower in Vista than it was in XP. I took a small piece of my application and created a test program. I've set my computer up for dual boot so I now have XP Home and Vista Business on it. I've run my test program from both OSs and the results are tremendously different.
I have a custom built computer that has a Microstar Int. KT6 - V mother board. It has an AMD Athlon XP 3200 + 2.2 GHz with 2 GB RAM. It's a 32 bit processor. I do have the 32 bit version of Vista installed. I have only PCI slots and one AGP slot on my mainboard. I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce2 Graphics card that I bought back in 2005 with 32 MB RAM. I have to write a program for a user to take a 20 question test (A, B, C, D). The users answers will be stored in an array and compared with a 2nd array that has the correct answers. Its then supposed to go to a 2nd form when you click show score, grade it, and display whether each answer was right or wrong. I'm missing something easy probably.

MySQL databases exists for saving values as strings (text only). Is there any way that i could store files with the same speed as a mysql command ? I know that it depends on the file size but lets say that the file is "Avatar.jpg" 50KB... I ve tried FTP but this is not what im looking for. e.g. You want your users been able to upload a file like the [Add This Attachment] button does in dreamincode.net and you dont have any background on PHP/HTML/Javascript/ASP.NET just VB.NET and the basics of MySQL plus you dont want to use it for a website. How do you accomplish this? Something silly that ive tried was opening an image as text then update the mysql server with that text but it didnt work backwards after i wrote the text on the file and oppened it ...it said that the image was corrupted.
