[2008] Graphics Test. Looking For Results From Vista Users

I recently upgraded to Vista Business from XP Home. I found that my Visual Basic 2008 graphics applications is running much much slower in Vista than it was in XP. I took a small piece of my application and created a test program. I've set my computer up for dual boot so I now have XP Home and Vista Business on it. I've run my test program from both OSs and the results are tremendously different.
I have a custom built computer that has a Microstar Int. KT6 - V mother board. It has an AMD Athlon XP 3200 + 2.2 GHz with 2 GB RAM. It's a 32 bit processor. I do have the 32 bit version of Vista installed. I have only PCI slots and one AGP slot on my mainboard. I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce2 Graphics card that I bought back in 2005 with 32 MB RAM. I'm going to attach the program I created and someone can let me know if they were able to install it and run it from the attachment. If you run it let me know your results if you run it from Vista and let me know your computer set up. What's all the goods on your computer. What kind of graphics card do you have. Is it PCIexpress, PCI or AGP.

i compile my form with the below code when i run it on vista work fine without any problem but when i try to run in on XP cant run... that happened with any XP machine.[code]when i run my exe to other Vista machines work fine... but on xp NO.

I need to save a setting which is then available to all users of the application on the given machine. It needs to work on Vista/Win 7, and the application won't be started as administrator.
Can't Save to program directory as the Program Files folder is protected on Vista Can't save to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE as that's protected too Can't save to server or web-service Where can I save data to? Even if the application rights were somehow elevated during execution, the registry is now virtualised in Vista - and so I will end up with a special HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE which is actually only for the current user.

I've created a program that requires students to answer addition questions.I have the code so that it calculates if the answer is correct, along with outputing the correct answer into a textbox.If the answer is correct the textbox background colour changes to green.If the answer is inocrrect the textbox background colour changes to red.I've done this using an array, and I want to use this array to calculate how many questions the students have answered correctly, and output them onto another page.I'm not sure is something like this would work:I was thinking about giving the textbox that outputs the grade score a value of 10. For every red box that is highlighted, 1 is taken away from the texbox value, outputting the amount of questions the user has answered correctly.Here is my array so far, not including the ability to output how many answers the student has answered correctly.

I'm on my way to MSDN but thought I'd stop by here first because the answers are usually more cogent.I have a test bed that mimmicks my product app. The general architecture is a factory that builds/instantiates a number of objects (device controllers) that are scalable in number based on requirement. Each object has a threaded portion that reads a device. This way, each object can read its own device simultaneously with all the others. To perform the read, the object calls a routine in a Module that houses the device interfaces. Interestingly (and happily), it seems like each thread has its own copy of the Module routine.
The test bed seems to verify what I'm seeing in the app. In the testbed, a 500 mil second delay is substituted for the device call. Even enclosing the test module portion that hosts the delay in a Synclock results in multi-threaded execution of the pseudo device call. I haven't tested for data yet, but this seems to indicate that when the module routine is called from controller object, it too carries it's own copy of the data just like the calling object. As a long time c++ programmer...that don't quite seem right.

This little experiment was a test prompted by a previous thread to learn to work in a graphics object, then paint everything later to a picturebox (later, will be looking at building own custom control for the display), and save out the bitmap to a file on the HD.But weird things happen here. Nothing will display in the picturebox, and the saved bitmap is just a black box.The only partial success I had was replacing: e.Graphics.DrawImage(MyBitmap, 0, 0)
with,
PictureBox1.image = MyBitmap
inside the paint event handler, but that caused infinite recursion of the paint event. But at least I could see parts of the graphic for a fraction of a second before it was wiped clean, every time I clicked the "Go_cmd" button. But what is weird is that this partial success showed that the graphics object was copying successfully over to the bitmap image (because I could briefly see parts of it in the picturebox, but the saved file would still come out black, even though it was based on the same bitmap!The code is as follows.Above the form1 class

I am developing an application for an emergency services organisation using VB 2008 that will enable users to select a map zone of a city centre and plot icons onto it, then save/export the layered map with icons as an image.My problem at the moment is that I am struggling developing the point where the user imports in the icon (for example, a flame icon where a fire started) and drags it around the map within the picture box to the required area.I want them to be able to select their desired icon from a series of commandbuttons and for the icon to 'appear' on the picturebox and be enabled to be dragged around and dropped as required. The organisation already has such a thing working in Microsoft Word (!) and that uses the ActiveDocument.Shape.LoadImage function on a pushbutton to import the icon and then it is placed on the map as required, but this is really unreliable for them.I dont even know if you can layer images onto an existin picturebox within an application in this way and then export as a flat image.

I am been working on an a small app that has a Forms.Webbrowser control that navigates to a Adobe Flash program. I have developed the app on Vista 32bit platform and have had no problems. I have sent the app to a couple of people to test out and one is using Vista 64bit and is running into a problem. I know the webbrowser control just uses the underlying base framework of IE. The problem on the 64 bit machine is when the site is navigated to it says that it needs to have Flash installed. When the user goes to Adobe's site it says they need to use a 32bit browser.
As stated on Adobe site here:[URL] the Flash player need to be in a 32 bit browser. What options do I have to be able fix this problem? Is there another control that I can use that would be the same in a 32bit platform and 64bit platform? Besides navigating to the Flash program, the browser also goes to standard web pages.

windows service app I am developing to audit events in the Windows Security Event Log. I am using the EventLog class to read entries from the "Security" event log. I have set the log to raise events when an entry is written so I can parse the data. Here is where my problem comes in. If I run the service on Windows 2003 I can get all the data I need from each entry, but when installed on Server 2008 the EventLogEntry ".message" property comes back with useless data like this, "The description for Event ID '4738' in Source 'Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing' cannot be found." Under Server 2003 the message property has good data. Using the Event Log Viewer in Server 2008 I can see that it is rendering the correct data, but I am having a heak of a time doing the same. The "replacementStrings" property has the corresponding data that I need, but it appears to involve some other steps to get the data localized to the event provider, but I do not know how to do that.
I also checked the registry HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesEventlogSecuritySecurity on both the 2003 servers and 2008 servers. They are identical execpt the 2003 has an entry the 2008 server does not:

I have a form that allows users to select file and then it reads the contents, parses the data and then executes a sql insert statement to add it to a database. What I am having issues with is showing real-time results. Currently, I have the import operation take place on the import form within the OnLoad event. The problem with this is it only shows the final results instead of the results real-time. Is there anyway to do this without creating a seperate thread and delegates?

I have a program that will process the files and produce the result in output file.When i publish and install the software in xp windows it run but in windows vista it read the file everything when i look for output file. I was having trouble before editing the registry on a WPF application I'm working on, in order to get autostart to work, so I ended up creating a shortcut in the startup folder to automatically start the application. My problem is, that this not working on Windows 7 (and Im guessing Vista too). Here's my code. Does Environment.SpecialFolder.Startup not work on Windows 7?

how to get working aero in Visual Basic 2008.I am making this media player and got everything I need for that. But what I really wanted is aero since Windows Vista got a nice interface and a few lucky people got it.But the tutorials I got worked great on Windows 7! However, I couldn't get aero because of a transparency key. (I swear I use a color picker to see if background color and transparency key are the same color.)I can't get it to work any piece of code I give.But the good part is that aero WILL work on any 7 or Vista without any form change, but the text is white with blue specks and that is not what I want.
EDIT:i found how to do it now! you need to use the property UseCompatibleTextRendring and put it to True. Now the problem is how do i do the same for the rest? (microsoft was to lazy to edit the controls)

I have an app developed in VB that works fine on Vista machines but fails on Win7. The offending line of code merely references a variable stored in a module. Evidentally, something is quite different on Win7. How to I find and fix this behavior?

my goal is to control the incoming and outgoing packets to a game server, to alert when a game round finishes the main code is this:
