I was wondering what the command to end a process is, i want to make an application that can end a process when the button is clicked, and restart it once the button is clicked again, could you give me the command for those?
View 3 RepliesIn my VB.NET 2005 windows winforms application, I use process.start (filename)to open a Word 2007 document. On some computers, the document opens in Internet Explorer instead of Word. These computers have Word 2007 installed. If I double-click a .docx document in Windows Explorer, it opens in Word 2007, not IE, this only happens with process.start.I already tried unchecking the "Browse in same window" checkbox in Folder Options - File Types - Advanced..How can I make the document open in Word 2007, not IE?
View 5 RepliesI have data that are numbers both on x and y and have charted them using mschart 4.0
I need to add a trend line/linear regression to a bunch of points I have. The data on x and y are both numbers (no dates anywhere), for instance (33.4,45.1) would be a point.
In the samples I downloaded from the first link I found a linear regression sample in the code files forecasting.aspx(.cs), and I found this ms documentation
I have added a linear regression line to the chart with the following line (once all other data it setup etc)
Chart1.DataManipulator.FinancialFormula(FinancialFormula.Forecasting, parameters, "Input:Y", "Forecasting:Y,Range:Y,Range:Y2");
The problem with both of these is that they assume dates are used. I went ahead and implemented it anyway, but my regression line starts at around the x value of 20, and will go to an x value of the max x value of one of the points (almost 70) if I give the parameter Period a value of 700. But since it doesn't start at x value 0 I don't trust it is correct.
I'm working on an app at the moment that requires an "if statement". I'd like it to check if a particular process is running (or window name, it doesn't matter) and if it is, I'd like it to do something. If it isn't, I'd like it to do something else.
The only part I don't have at the moment is the "checking if the process (or window name) is running" part.
my app has a feature of the owner changing the background. one option is to set a custom bg using openfiledialogso the user selects a image and the image copy itself to the stratupfolder and using the image as an background works..okbut when i try doing this the second time it says error! file is using under another proccess and i think it runns with my app. so i tried to set the image to nothing and the bg went black but stil getting the error that the iamge is running
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to add a bargraph to one of my forms which will show a trend in dollars spent for certain projects (vs. the forecasted amounts). I wanted to know if there is a control or a function in VB.NET 2008 that I can use to build this graph in.... My only other thought is to use pictureboxes as bars (with background filled colors) and adjust their heights based on a ration or height to dollar amt... I don't mind doing this, but I wanted to know if there is a more intelligent way of building this... maybe some graph wizzard like in excel.
View 1 RepliesSome of u already know I'm making a 'virtual desktop'- thing.Only one problem. When switching to a new desktop it starts a new instance of my app in that desktop (works) and on the form load event it says process.start("explorer.exe") <- here is the problem. It only shows a window not the actually bar. Also this may be important it shows the window, but when I navigate to explorer.exe 'C:Windowsexplorer.exe' and open it there. The explorer bar does show up.

I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?
View 2 RepliesI want to make a program that is similar to Windows Explorer. It will have a button that when you click it it opens a FolderBrowserDialog and it will have an area that displays the contents of the selected folder. I want to have a label that displays the current folder path (i.e. 'USERDocuments...') and I also would like a feature to search all files on the computer. Also, is it possible that when I click on a file in the contents of the selected folder it displays its information (i.e. Name, Size, etc.)? And can I also make it so that if you double click on another folder in the current folder's display it opens that folder? And can I have a button to go up one directory?
View 1 RepliesI want to open explorer to a specific destination but both shell() and process.start() are not opening explorer. They both open other applications like calc and notepad though. It works fine when debugging but not after I publish.

View 2 RepliesStupid question, but how do I get access to this Explorer? To create a performance session for Windows client application:(1) Open the solution in the Visual Studio IDE. (2) On the Analyze menu, click Launch Performance Wizard.(3) From the Which of the following available targets would you like toprofile? drop-down list, select the name of the application that you wantto profile, and then click Next. You can add more binaries later
View 3 RepliesBelow is a practical example of how this would be useful:A practical example would be an FTP client where a user dragdrops files to be uploaded and would naturally want to dragdrop remote files to their local folders with the intention of triggering a download of that file to the folder they dragged the listview item to.
View 2 RepliesIn the Solution Explorer window, is it possible to change the highlight color of selected items *when the form does not have focus*?For example, selecting a module in the Solution Explorer highlights that module's name in Blue, then when the focus is lost by moving to another window in the IDE, that blue highlight becomes a very, very light gray (on some LCD monitors in particular). I'd like to make that light gray a bit easier to see.Is this possible? I'm running VS2008 SP1 on Vista 64.

What is tsclient? Is that a driver that is "expressing" itself like a folder structure? How about when you plug a camera or other device in a usb port and it shows as a G: drive, for instance?I'm guessing the G: drive trick is just a "driver" starting up for the usb port that somehow makes itself seen as a mapped drive. Is the \tsclient thing done the same way? Is there some kind of tsclient.exe that runs to do whatever this does? How can I make my own "pseudo" folder structure?
I want to make a program that displays files in listview and makes the files clickable. How could I do this? I just need a little bit of help and I want the files to be displayed on form_load and if you need a location to display files from for an example, here is my location:C:WINDOWS
I'm not asking for anything huge, just an explanation or example, maybe a small amount of code.
Some of my students end up with a different icon in the Solution Explorer when they create applications. An example is the attached Exam.vb icon, which includes a little arrow into the normal Form icon (see pic) . I am guessing it means it is linked some how. When the application is zipped and submitted, an error is thrown when I unzip it to grade it which indicates that the file in not part of the project, and it references the absolute address on the original application.Any idea what caused this and how can I instruct the students to avoid it in the future?

I did some research and i found that i will need to edit the registry. So if i make a folder called "Get Path" in the ContextMenuHandlers folder. When i click on the file in windows explorer or desktop etc i will have the option called "Get Path".Now for the value key what do i put inside? What i want is when the user right - clicks on the file my program starts up and displays the path of that file on a msgbox or listbox. I was thinking of letting the Windows Installer (.msi) doing this for me.

I wrote a 2008express program last month. It worked as planned until 23 Aug when the following message started appearing about 6 seconds after launch, either the exe (which my wife uses) or in debug mode: "Internet Explorer Script Error An error has occurred in the script on this page. line: 42 char: 1 error: object expected [URL] Do you wish to continue running scripts on this page? Yes No"
Internet Explorer is not the default browser - Firefox is. How could IE get into the picture? The message comes up even if the user does nothing. I deleted all commands invoking the browser and all the code relating to accessing the web - still get the message. No line 42 in the entire project refers to accessing IE or the web. If you click Yes or No on the message, everything is OK from then on. What is "this page" the message refers to and how do I get to it to make some change? If I get to "this page", is it possible to make a change? What would make the message come up after over a month of normal use with no changes to the program?
