I want to read all the text from a webpage to begin with , then after 30 seconds i want it to read it again and if any text has changed have my program do something. But when i read all the text i want my program to save it and every 30 seconds if the text has changed again do something else do nothing.

t possible to do this easily as im not great at VB I have a simple webbrowser open when i click a menu item, and when it loads it goes to a text page on a online server i have (ends in .txt) which just has some text on, is it possible for me to add a button which when i press it, it searches the page for a certain number/word, then opens a message box with some text in relation to the number/text, or is this not possible with a webpage.

Now I need to pick certain strings out of the rather large amount of text data and have the lines stored in variables, but the trick of it is, the exact string is unknown. The exact function should be, that the code finds certain tags from the source code, say <td> and </td> and takes the string data in between those tags, what ever it may be.
how to grab specific text from a webpage and put it into variables. In below html source, the text marked blue identifies the correct lines, while the the numbers inside the "NOBR" tags are what I want to get.

I've made a simple webbrowser and now i want to be able to modify the text in a webpage. In the webpage source code I have something like this <td class="res">Hello</td> and I want to replace Hello with Hi, so people see Hi on their screen instead of Hello. How can I accomplish this?

The application will allow the user to browse and search within a database table, but I also want it to integrate with a 3rd party web page that reports on related information. I understand it's simple enough to view the web page, but, integrating with my application will be quicker and easier. The web pages shows "operational status" on individual recording systems for the call centre telephones. To make sure that these recording systems are working correctly, a list of the extensions whose recording systems aren't working is drawn up. I want my application to draw up this list automatically, but to do that, I have to get it off the web page first.

The webpage can be accessed through [URL].. and the info can be seen in the web browser but I cannot extract them because the info is not available in the source code of the page.It seems it's generating the info dynamically using a jsquery.js file.
I was wondering if it's possible to make an app which uses some cache or something (I guess the the page is saved temporary somewhere on the disk for the current session) to retrieve that data in vb.net?

I've got a program which reads a text file, in this file there are 2 or 3 lines between paragraphs. However when displaying in my textbox on my form i have 14-18 lines. Why? and how can I remove them?

I want to let Button1 check whats in TextBox1.Text and search "list.txt" for it. When it has got a match (there is only ONE of these numbers in list.txt).For example TextBox1.Text = "IDS_PROPITEM_TXT_011946". And I search for that so I find the line above. Now I want 3 other textboxes which show the 21st, 22nd, 23rd column/number after "IDS_PROPITEM_TXT_011946". And they should be editable by changing those 3 textboxes and clicking the apply button.How can I best do this, and please give a little example.

The following code suppose to:
1. Read line-by-line a txt file with more than 500,000 lines, (each line 521 characters long)
2. extract an ID No from the line
3. query from a database for LCCIStatus
4. concatenate the value of LCCIStatus to the line
5. write the line to sample.txt
My problem is, this code works perfectly with the test file of 8000 lines but fail with the actual files which have over 500,000 lines. FYI, the test file contains data which I cut and paste from the actual file.

I am in the process (slow process) if learning vb.net by trying to create a simple application that will read and write (save) chosen information to a text file. The application has text boxes (name, email address, etc) and I want to read information from certain lines in the text and place in the given text box.[code]When I start debugging mode it does not display the text until I click onto the text box and it's displaying the first line of text in the file. Is it possible to take certain text from a web page and paste it into a Rich Text Box in Visual Basic? I'm going to use this http://google.com/complete/search?output=toolbar&q=mlb to generate a bunch of keywords and I want to highlight just the keyword paste it into the Rich Text Box. How can I do this? Also a better way to describe this is almost scraping the keywords through all that code and putting them into the richtextbox.
View 3 RepliesI have a couple of VB6 programs which work 100%, however not under W7, so I need to upgrade them to Visual studio 2008 pro which I own a copy of.The VB6 software used to open a file, read in a line of data and process it then save it in a new file, before going on to the next line input.I need to convert this process to VS2008 pro and can't get my head around it..... getting old you see.I also have a few other needs to do with file handling, but I may be able to sort them myself if I get a start with the above problem....
