i need to change the "PATH" environment variable in a VB program (Visual Studio 2008). Here is the code i use to add the "C:TEST" folder at the end of the existing one.
test
Dim PathVal As String
PathVal = Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("Path", EnvironmentVariableTarget.User)
[Code].....
I've made a simple program that set environment variables like [code]...
If I close de command prompt then open it again, it's OK.
How can I refresh the environment variables in the command prompt I use my program?
I am wondering if I can use VB.NET(I am using visual studio 2010 express) to get and set a environment variable.
I want to add path of my application on system environment. I want to preserve what is already there and then I wan to add my string. This can be done by getting value of PATH and then append my string then re writing it.
I have 2 questions here:
How to get/set system variable in vb.net 2010? Will it be on the fly, I mean will it be immediatly avaialble in dos prompt or there will be delay?
As just for experiment i opened a command prompt then updated the PATH variable manually and it was not updated. I am wondering it I do it through programe it will be same.
I was trying to use the sentence
Environment.SetEnvironmentVariable("CLIENTIP", <value>)
but the variable is not created. I used both an string variable and a constant to set the value.
So, how can I do this to work?
I think my title covers the high level, but for indepth; i need to be able to connect to a machine through and ip and set a enviroment variable, i have over 60 machines in different states all on one network that i need to do this for as well as someother things for the machine. currently this is being done through a PCEXEC command in a batch file they want more control on how this operates. I just really have no idea where to even start looking for the enviroment variable change(setting one on a machine that the app is running is simple we all know that. but on a external machine im lost) on a remote machine.
View 1 RepliesI have this code
Text1.Text = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.CommonApplicationData)
but, when I run it, it produces an error: Compile Error: Variable not defined and it points to the second "Environment" string, the one inside the parenthesis. Is there a reference that I should be enabling?
I have VB6 Dll which I am referencing in vb.net ,I am calling the following function in it. It working fine in developemnt environment but not in deployement environment.

I'm trying to convert some VB.net code into C# and having issues trying to convert this one line. VB.NET Dim myreg As Microsoft.Win32.Registry I know it's a static so I can't create an instance but when I tried a VB.NET converter to C# the website gives me this: Microsoft.Win32.Registry myreg = null; And gives me an error message: 'Microsoft.Win32.Registry' is a 'type' but is used like a 'variable' In the last part of the Function in VB.NET, myreg is used:

View 1 RepliesI've googled a bit and saw someone said they had success in simply dragging the .dll files over to their application's path. I have tried this as well, and unfortunately it doesn't work. It stops the errors, but my chart is entirely blank. Some of the features of the chart work. ie: the legend shows up. But I have hidden some items from the legend and they still appear in the legend while running on a 2.0 system. For example, on my development machine, it shows 4 items in the legend, but on the 2.0 machine, there are all 7 - including the 3 that I have hidden.

I'm converting all of my Windows XP production applications to Windows 7 and I am having a couple of problems.
1: Whenever I get an error, on the XP machines, it breaks execution and stops on the line of code with the problem. In Windows 7, it just throws a generic exception and I have no idea where the line of code with the error took place. Very frustrating.
2: In XP, I can edit changes on the fly while I am running code if I place breakpoints or follow along the code. If I try that in Windows 7, it says that's not allowed with 64 bit applications.
I am getting the error:"Range variable 'sender' hides a variable in an enclosing block or a range variable previously defined in the query expression."for this

I can select any other item from the table without the error. "sender" has the same properties as "receiver" in the SQL table.

I'm looking at implementing a piece of software I've created into a new environment. It is currently accessed via network share by users who have full administrative permissions on their user accounts. These same users will have their accounts locked down excessively. I am wanting to consider now before any changes have been made, any code changes I will need to make as my application makes use of a lot of features that admin users take for granted such as registry editing. My program is running through the .net 3.5 framework and is being accessed on XP machines.
View 5 RepliesI will have a directory of files (IFO, BUP, and VOB; DVD files for anyone who cares), I need to find the first one by sorting these like this: Filter out everything that does not have a .VOB in it, then find the one like this VTS_**_1.VOB. It will always have a "1" before the extension, but the two numbers before that change, lastly I need that file returned as a variable.
View 4 RepliesI am trying to use the value of one variable to call another variable of the same name.I have 2 variable one called VAR1 and VAR2.
The variable VAR1 has a value of "VAR2"
The variable VAR2 has a value of "HELP"
I want to be able to get the value VAR2 from the variable VAR1 I have defined the value of VAR2 early in the code and now I want to call that value by using the value of VAR1.The reason I am doing it this way as I have a list of 50 variables that are pulled from one system. Each of these variables have the same name as the columns of a spreadsheet. The total number of Variable stay the same but the total column headers may vary each time. I need to loop through each of the column headers match them with the variable names and add the data to the spreadsheet.
VAR1 = "VAR2"
VAR2 = "HELP"
i =1
[code]....
This is the tricky bit...if the value of the cell(1,i) = "VAR2" How do I get it to display the value of the variable of the same name In this case how will I get it to display "HELP" when I only have from the VAR1 value "VAR2" I know my code will bring back the value as a string but I want it to bring back that string as a variable and display the value of that variable?

I've had a bit of a look around the net and on the forums but I've yet to find an answer to my question. I've got Visual Basic 2008 Express and I'm trying to write some registry entries, I can write strings fine just using

Currently, I am try to get the email addresses that have been saved or stored by the user of the computer. This isn't the emails that the user has sent or received, or the contacts he/she has in his address book. Just simply the email accounts that have been accessed from the computer.I know that there are some locations stored in the registry that have the email account. The email addresses that are used on the current computer. I just can't seem to find them on my computer.I am not sure if the registry is the only place to find it or if it stored on the web browser such as internet explorer or google chrome.
View 1 RepliesI am writing an application that connects to a specific com port. This com port can change depending on how many physical ports are on the PC, and if other USB devices have installed com ports before this one.
I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.
In this key:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlClass{4D36E978-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
I am using VB.net 2008 and Windows XP.
I have several programs that must write to HKLM in XP and Windows 7/64 Pro.The programs work in VB6 but not in VB.Net 2008 on target machines. It does works on our development machine. [code]I just cannot figure out why VB6 works but .net doesn't and fails only on the target machine not the development machine.

Does anyone know how to use the registry section in Inno Setup to add a registry key that make a program start with windows when a Checkbox is checked in the setup wizard? If anyone know please step forward. I am getting near the launch of a program and it would be nice to include this feature.

i made this Reg key with this code.
Registry.SetValue("HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareapp", "Sample", "001010101")
I'm trying to delete the Name of the Key and the value only with this
My.Computer.Registry.CurrentUser.DeleteValue("Softwareapp")
But i think this will delete the folder and not only one key Do you know a code that would only delete
"HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareapp", "Sample", "001010101")
I've got a .reg file and I want to add it to the registry when the user clicks a button. I've been searching the forums and I've seen allot of ways to do it without the .reg file, instead taking the values and putting them in the correct syntax, but I already have the .reg file and it would take far too much effort to place all the values in the correct syntax (The amount of values is huge). What is the code to do this? Do I have to somehow add the .reg file to the project?
