View 1 RepliesUsing VB express 2008 here. I am just wondering about the best way to store certain values like the last browsed folder even if a user closes the app and starts it again. I dont want to go the route of making a text file in the installation directory and storing the values there. Seems clunky.

I was using 2 forms, the first one has general data capture and the second one is a calendar form. On Form1 I have mulitple windows controls. A Textb ox and beside a Calendar button. When I click on a Calendar Command button, it should open calendar form and once the user selects the date, the date should be placed in the text box on the form1. Identical to this on Form1 I need multiple textboxes that needs date to be captured.I cannot use a global variable for this as I need to validate mulitple text boxes. To explain this, I have a Transaction Date and Date Received. I need to validate whether Transaction date is prior Date Received or not? I dont want to use several global variables b'coz I might need multiple validations as above. Please help me on this.
View 6 RepliesI am having trouble getting the Student Name entered in the Student Name Form to change the Text titles of the GroupBox's on the Main Form and Schedule Form. I understand the logic of what needs to be done to some extent, but I am having trouble coming up with the correct coding.
Below is a snippet of the Student Name Form code that I tried most recently just to see if I could get any change to happen to the other 2 Forms when the Accept Name button was clicked. As of yet, I cannot get a change to happen at all in the groupboxes of the other Forms.[code...]

View 1 RepliesI have a form used to display records read from a dB. The record fields are displayed in textboxes to allow editing. When the form loads, it reads all records from the table and loads the first record to the form - very straighforward. I set the Textbox.Readonly = True after loading the data. I have an "Edit" button that sets the value back to false so that editing can occur.
All fields display correctly apart from the first field textbox where there appears to be no text displayed. If I press the "Edit" button and set the cursor into the textbox and use the arrow key to move left, the text is there. In other words, the text is loaded to the textbox but somehow it is hidden. Now if I move to the next record the field information displays correctly. The problem only occurs when the form is first loaded and the first record is displayed.
Now for the strange part. If I delete that (first) textbox from the form and then re-create it, the weird behavior moves to the next textbox control and the first textbox behaves correctly. I have checked all the properties for the textboxes and made sure they are all the same. I have had this problem before and found the only way to overcome it was to regenerate the entire form again. Does anyone have any clues on what is going astray?

Now I want to add a button that browse for an image that accompany that txt file, and load it into a Picture Box. When I click to Save the txt file, I want it automatically to also save the loaded image With the txt file as the same name as the txt file, without needing to save the image and text separately.

I am a rookie in VB and have been trying to show in form2 only the records in table2 filtered by the value of a textbox shown in form1 which is a value from table1.So far I have not been able to achieve this and I have seen so many answers to similar questions but when I try there is always something wrong.

View 7 RepliesIn my application, I have a data bound form using a binding control (built by the wizard). The application has one primary data screen plus a few more on tabcontrol subscreens.Picture for example that the tabcontrol has two tabs, tab1 and tab2.When the form is displayed, tab1 is visible. Now picture the form or window split in half the top part of the form has a few textbox controls bound to the data and there are a few textbox controls in the lower half of the screen on tab1 of tabcontrol1.There are a few textbox controls on tab2 as well. When the form displays, I can access any of the .text properties of any of the textbox's that I can see on the form and in tab1 of the tabcontrol.BEFORE tab2 is chosen or even, I need to get some of the data from the .text property on a textbox control that is on tab2.I have tried to get the data but as far as VB is concerned, it does not appear to be there UNTIL tab2 is displayed.
To prove this, I put a command button on the form and it simply does this: MSGBOX (mytext box33. text)mytextbox33 is a databound control on tab2 of the tabcontrol1.tab2 is not in focus and apparently, neither is the data.how can I read the .text property of a textbox that is on a form but the form (or tab) is not in focus?
How do move to next textbox.text by pressing the return Key in a windows Form . I am using VB 2010 express edition?
View 2 RepliesI have two forms, one has a textbox on it the other also has textbox on it. Form1's textbox is the source for text found. form2's textbox contains the search criteria.
This the code that I quickly bashed out to do a find functionality of a textbox. The problem is the last line of code. If I use the last line of code the the Source Form.s textbox is highlighted however if the Source Form is Maximised then the Find form will be hehind the Source Form. I don't want that to happen. Secondondly if I dont use the last line of code then the the text isn't seleceted at all.
Private Sub DoFind(ByVal xControl As Control)
Dim x As Boolean = TypeOf xControl Is TextBox

in the richtextbox(from my class) gotfocus -what I need is the richtextbox.text to also be in a different textbox on the form. the richtextbox(readonly) is from my class that has mousedown and mouseup code and more than one richtextbox (small in size) will be on the form in a container so when user clicks on one I need the richtextbox.text to also be in a regular textbox (not from my class) and not located in container. And I need to read a property I made in my richtextbox class.
