VS 2008 Sharing A Form Between Two Projects?

Jul 12, 2011

I want to use a form in two project.

I have developed it in one project, I now want to make it available to another project.

I have removed it from the project and moved the .vb & *.resx files to a directory for common modules.

I then go into my project select Add Existing item, select the .vb project and say Add as Link.

But now my form is missing - I just have the code.

I have two classes MyPanel & MyForm. MyForm was first, MyPanel second. It says they should be the other way round. When I swap them I get the message "to add componets to your class, drag them from the toolbox...."

C# - Sharing Code Between 2 Projects Without A Dll

Dec 2, 2010

How can I have code-sharing between two projects without making a dll?

The issue is: I have a tool that syncs users & groups from LDAP to a database.

Now the tool is a windows service, but testing it as such is very difficult and time consuming.

Which is why I made a console application where I can test the LDAP syncing, and then just copy the respective sourcecode-files over to the service project.

But... keeping the common files in sync is a bit of a problem. I don't want to make a dll, because this probably creates me a problem with the 3rd project, a windows installer (for the service) where I have to use ExecutingAssembly path...

Is there a way to share the code without making a separate dll? Automagic statical linking, so to say ?

Sharing Files Between Projects Within Solution

Jul 22, 2009

I am working on a solution that contains 2 projects one to be built as an exe and the other as a service. Both projects will share a class for certian functions and properties. I would like to have both projects use the same physical file so when I make a change in one of the projects it is also made in the other.

This was simple to do in VB6 but as of yet I see no way to do it under dot net. It seems to want to make a copy of the file and place it into the project folder for the second project resulting in the need to either copy after every change or manually make the changes twice.

Anyone know if there is a way to have common files area for a solution so that any project within the solution has access to the actual file rather than a copy of it?

Sharing Entity Framework Models With Other Projects Using MEF

Nov 23, 2011

I am currently developing a Windows service and I am am looking to use MEF to compose all of the services components at run time. The data access module (project) is using Entity Framework 4.1 and a Domain Service Class to perform CRUD operations on the entity model.

The problem I have is how to share the models outside the DAL project when composing the DAL into the worker class in the main project.

For exmaple this is one of the methods in the DAL contract interface

Function GetInspectionFaults() As IQueryable(Of InspectionFault)

This interface is currently in the DAL project (not the shared/referenced project containing the other contract interfaces) as it needs references to the entity model for the POCO types.

How do I shared these POCO types?

Sharing Data Between Multiple Projects In Single Application?

Jun 11, 2011

I have a windows forms application with one exe and several dlls(Class libraries) in a single solution. The application uses common data that is used across all the dlls. I would like to load the data when the application is starting up and use the loaded data at various points in the dlls so that I do not have to load the common data again and again. How can I share the data loaded in main EXE across the DLLs?

Sharing Data Between Class And Form?

Sep 30, 2010

I am in a VB programming class and I am having an issue with a program that I created. The focus of the program is creating a class to do calculations and sharing the data with a form.

The problem that I am having is with a certain piece of data that is shared between the class and form. To be more specific, it is two check boxes that each have their own variable as boolean, done as a true/false if checked/unchecked situation.

When I step through the program, somehow the values get changed entering the class for calculations. For example if it was true, false, it comes out as false, true when the class accesses the data. There are other variables and data types that get pulled but these are the only ones that are being altered.

VS 2008 Sharing Development?

Mar 5, 2010

I have been assigned to a project where an existing developer has been working on a web app on VS 2008 storing all files on his local workstation.I need to assist and eventually take over deveolpment of the web app development. My workstation only has VS 2005 but I will be installing VS 2008 in the coming days.

My question is: what is the best way to access all of his work, and make it so that it is acessible to other developers as neccesary.

VS 2008 Sharing With Mdichildren Use Events?

Apr 19, 2010

I've been working on an application recently and it has exceeded the scope of a single form.I decided that it would be a good time to use an MDI container and split the interface up over a number of different child forms. As the application was written, there were a few different classes that were being instanciated on the original form.I've migrated these over to the MDI parent form so that I can allow all of the children to interact with them. The route that I'm going down right now is raising events on the child forms and watching for them on the MDI parent. The parent form is then doing whatever the child did to the instanciated classes in the past.

VS 2008 Sharing My.Settings Across Solution Not Just Project

Oct 9, 2009

It must be to close to the weekend, but I thought I read at some time an article of an easy way to have a common settings file for both application and user settings across a solution.

I currently have a Solution that contains 4 projects. Each of these projects need to access the same set of settings and be able to update the user settings. Is there a way to do this utilizing the My.Settings functionality?

VS 2008 Sharing .NET 2008 Application EXE?

Jul 3, 2010

We are rewriting our VB6 application in VB.NET 2008. The application contains several VB.NET dlls and one COM OCX control. We want to keep our executable file in shared folder of Server and want to create a shortcut in all other PCs. (This is the way we deployed our VB6 application)We know that using .NET Code security option we can give permission for sharing exe of a VB.NET 2008 program and .NET Framework is necessary to install in Client and Server PCs.

1.In which place we need to change .NET Code security: Server or Client?

2.Our application has a COM OCX control. Will it affect our sharing?

3.Which resource will be used for running application: Server or Client?

4. We want to use local resource of client such as reading registry setting, INI file etc. Is it possible?

5.Where to put DLLs of the application: Server or Client?

VS 2008 Combining Projects Into A Solution?

Apr 6, 2011

As far as I know , it is possible to combine projects into a solution . So , lets say we have 3 projects . Each project has a starting form , lets call them SF1 , SF2 and SF3 .What I would like to ask you is how can I write code in order to have both the solution and the partial projects , working . You see , the solution (which as far as I know will also be accompanied by a new project) has to have a starting form ; lets call it SF0 .A) First of all I'd like to know how can I call a partial project from the solution itself .B) What code do I have to write in the partial projects in order to keep them running correctly when they are separate (that is not part of the solution) . I am asking this question too , because as I guess , there has to be code in SF1 , SF2 and SF3 (into buttons) that lead back to SF0 , but

VS 2008 Multiple Projects Into One 'application Mix'

I have written a few different applications in the past few years, all of which are related in that they help users creating maps/levels for a certain game. I would like to 'bundle' all these applications together, into one application (and will later add more functionality to that). In it's most basic form, it would simply be one single Form with buttons, where each button opens the corresponding application.

Why use multiple projects in one solution?

VS 2008 Multiple Icons For EXE - Specify One Icon File For Projects?

Apr 28, 2010

I'm sick of my EXE files only looking decent in one view in explorer (ie List or Tiles etc) because I can only figure out how to specify one icon file for my projects so it has to be a specific size and if its too big it looks rubbish at smaller sizes in explorer, and vice versa if its too small. So how can I embed more than one icon file and make it automatically select the correct one to display in explorer depending on the view? I believe you can store more than one icon in an ICO file, so do you have to just combine the various size icons into one ICO and then explorer will automatically select the correct sized on? Or is it something you have to do within the VB project?

VS 2008 Solution Compiles All Setup Projects On F5 Debug?

Just got a little quirk with VS2008 on 1 solution. When i press F5 to debug my solution builds the current project but then insists on building all my setup projects...

This only occurs on 1 of my solutions and it has 20 projects within it.

I've checked startup projects and it has no dependancies and is set to selected project.

EDIT: Right click and debug in new instance works fine
