Class Module Which Is Shared Between The 2 Projects?

Mar 29, 2010

I have no idea what is going on here but it is strange to say the least.I created a new solution in VS2008Pro under windows 7 This solution has 2 projects one for the pc and one for a CE based device. There is one class module which is shared between the 2 projects. In VS2005 under xp this same basic project worked fine but here I am seeing error messages that appear out of no where.

Example the CE portion flags 3 lines initially 1 related to a file i.o function and 2 others related to socket methods. All three of these were supported in VS2005 using framework 2.0 which is the same framework I am using here. This is just the tip of the ice berg however. If I attempt to run the code it runs fine for the pc client and of course not for the CE device. If I make any kind of change, add a line, comment a line or just add a comment I get lots more errors with odd messages that are not even valid.

In one case after I saved it jumped from 3 errors to 30, in another case to 50 and yet another to 144 errors yet the only errors that were present were the original 3 that were flagged. The ide threw errors like Try Catch must end with matching End Try.Get no longer supported ' apparently referring to the binary file get but here it is used as the get portion of the property.Get must end with matching end get.It also started complaining about functions and data types. For example saying "an is not declared" pointing to the word Boolean Or telling me my functions are not declared point to only 1/2 of the function name.

I do not see any errors in the code and it reports no errors in VS2005 under XP.As a test I tryed adding a new property to the project after it was telling me there were 144 errors. I allowed the ide to do most of the work and when I hit enter the errors went back to 3. Then I saved the project and the errors went to 105 pointing first at the new property just created.

Programming ZigBee Software Using Vb Class Library?

Jun 9, 2009

currently im doing this industrial proj for my sch final year project

its about ZigBee....i need to ask if anyone here knows how zigbee works..if not its very hard for me to explain by typingg it all out..im focusing on the AT Remote COmmand and im using the X-CTU software to ttest out the ports..this is the thoery part

for the programming part which is the main thing im suppose to produce....i gotta drag a serial port to the apps UI...create a class library using VS 2008 in vb to make the software become flexible..in the sense whereby cos currently i got a master port and a remote port...i need to calculate the hexadecimals for my remote port to control the mode of the remote port for example on and off..

if i do purely hard coding... this is the code i came out wid Dim onBuff () As Byte = (&H7E, &H0...so on and so forth)

port.Open()
port.Write(onBuff, 0, onBuff.Length)
Port.Close()

the result i get is the remote port will on...subsequently...to off it..i got to calcute the 'off' hexadecimals..

however 1 ZigBee chip has its own hexadecimals and i can connect tons of remote port...so now i cant hard code the hexa..i got to find a way to use vb to create a class library so that instead of fixed hexa i can make it flexible

i know its very hard to understand thru typing...cos best is gotta deomstrate..apparently its very hard to do it here..so ya..thats why its best if got ppl here who knos abt ZigBee

IDE - Upgrade To 2010 Projects Referencing A Class Library Targeting A Different Framework Fail To Build

Aug 18, 2010

Say I have a Framework 4.0 project that is referencing a class library targeting 3.5. The project will simply not build. It won't give me any valid error message it will just act as though the reference does not exist.

Projects that were working like this in Visual Studio 2008 are no longer working in 2010. Took me forever to figure out what there error is. If I remove the project reference and add it back the intellisense lights up and you can tell a variable referenced in the class library is found. But as soon as you build the project everything is lost. My using statements get underlined, references to the variable all turn grey and project fails to build saying the class cannot be found. Once I make the class library 4.0 as well everything builds. I get the same issue between 4.0 client profile and 4.0 as well.

Game Programming :: How To Destroy An Instance Of A Form Class

Feb 17, 2009

I am writing a chat application quite similar to MSN and others alike, where you have a main window that can spawn several chat windows. So I have a chat class form (called frmChat) that I just instantiate whenever I need it, with the following code from the main form:[code]In this form I have a button labeled as 'End chat'. I would like not just to close the form, but actually to destroy its instance in order to dispose memory. I tried what would seemed to be to me the more direct and obvious way to do that (see below), but unfortunatelly VB syntax checker doesn't allow me to do that:[code]

Socket Programming And Telnet Class For .NET To Simplify The Sending And Receiving Of Data?

Sep 28, 2009

I'm writing a GUI-based app in VB.net that talks to a LambdaMOO server via telnet, sends commands to display the object hierarchy, then parses the output and creates a visual representation of the object hierarchy. So my question is: is there some kind of "telnet client" class for .NET to simplify the sending and receiving of data, or do I have to write my own using the socket API?

VS 2008 Can't Open Projects?

Slightly odd problem I'm having at the moment, vb.net 2008 was working fine for me until today when it has decided it doesn't want to open any of my projects/solutions anymore. When I click them in recent projects or even navigate to them and try to open them the program attempts to load them and then just stops without returning any error.

VS 2008 Combining Projects Into A Solution?

Apr 6, 2011

As far as I know , it is possible to combine projects into a solution . So , lets say we have 3 projects . Each project has a starting form , lets call them SF1 , SF2 and SF3 .What I would like to ask you is how can I write code in order to have both the solution and the partial projects , working . You see , the solution (which as far as I know will also be accompanied by a new project) has to have a starting form ; lets call it SF0 .A) First of all I'd like to know how can I call a partial project from the solution itself .B) What code do I have to write in the partial projects in order to keep them running correctly when they are separate (that is not part of the solution) . I am asking this question too , because as I guess , there has to be code in SF1 , SF2 and SF3 (into buttons) that lead back to SF0 , but

VS 2008 Deployment/Setup Projects?

Maybe I'm just searching around for the wrong information, but are there any good tutorials on Deployment or setup projects? I can make the little auto wizard that VS2008 makes for you, but my app needs more custom options. For instance my app will set up SQLserver 2008 and create the tables in it, but I can't find any useful info about how to make a custom setup/msi app.

VS 2008 Multiple Projects Into One 'application Mix'

I have written a few different applications in the past few years, all of which are related in that they help users creating maps/levels for a certain game. I would like to 'bundle' all these applications together, into one application (and will later add more functionality to that). In it's most basic form, it would simply be one single Form with buttons, where each button opens the corresponding application.

VS 2008 Sharing A Form Between Two Projects?

Jul 12, 2011

I want to use a form in two project.

I have developed it in one project, I now want to make it available to another project.

I have removed it from the project and moved the .vb & *.resx files to a directory for common modules.

I then go into my project select Add Existing item, select the .vb project and say Add as Link.

But now my form is missing - I just have the code.

I have two classes MyPanel & MyForm. MyForm was first, MyPanel second. It says they should be the other way round. When I swap them I get the message "to add componets to your class, drag them from the toolbox...."

VS 2008 Why Use Multiple Projects In One Solution

VS 2008 Multiple Icons For EXE - Specify One Icon File For Projects?

Apr 28, 2010

I'm sick of my EXE files only looking decent in one view in explorer (ie List or Tiles etc) because I can only figure out how to specify one icon file for my projects so it has to be a specific size and if its too big it looks rubbish at smaller sizes in explorer, and vice versa if its too small. So how can I embed more than one icon file and make it automatically select the correct one to display in explorer depending on the view? I believe you can store more than one icon in an ICO file, so do you have to just combine the various size icons into one ICO and then explorer will automatically select the correct sized on? Or is it something you have to do within the VB project?

I've checked startup projects and it has no dependancies and is set to selected project.
