VS 2008 - VB BITBLT Equivlant - Build Image By Opening Files With Image Data

In VB6 you could BITBLT things around before refreshing the screen. In .NET, I'm aware of DrawImage, but that can only be done on a paint event rather than before anything gets painted. The issue I have is, I need to open several files with image data in them and then build a bigger image with those smaller images. Before I could open them, BITBLT them to a Buffer. As far as I can tell .NET offers no way to do this as the only function I've been able to find (DrawImage) only works within the paint event. Is there still a way to do this in VS08 or no?

I am trying to use Bitblt for drawing one image on another. but when i try to get HDC From first image it gives Negative pointer value, so BitBlt returns 0 value. is it possible to get device context from bitmap directly?

I was told to use bitblt to crop my image. But i am new to vb and am really confused as to how to do it. I am making a board game. The player chooses its colour of player (a pawn),this image is then placed on the board. I want just the pawn to show and not the box around it.

I'd like to verify if an image control has an image loaded . If it does , I want to unload that image (and load no image) , but if the image control has no image loaded , I want to load an image . Is it possible ?

I play a game and in the game you acquire skills which you can display on the screen in a box very similar to a data grid. The grid has 3 columns and X number of rows.Column 1 is the name of the skill, column 2 has a descriptive term like "Beginner" and column has the number of points you have acquired in that skill. So it would look something like this:[code]Remember that it is in a data grid so it has cells like an Excel spreed sheet.The program that I use is able to parse the skill name and the points and save that information outside the game to a n area in the program.My question is, is this possible to do something similar in VB? First of all, I have an image file, below is an image of squares with stripped lines,showing where each square is going to be. The coding below is to retrieve the Raw Image Data from the Database and then write as a JPG image file. The problem is the image file (image.jpg) is "nothing" after file created. I guess there is something wrong in the following coding.
fs.Write(rawData, 0, fileSize)
No any runtime errors I can find, and I double check rawData (i.e. Buffer) contains data. But don't know why there is "nothing" inside the image (image.jpg).

I'm looking for a way to extract .jpg files from .wmv files at given intervals. For instance, if a clip is 1 minute long and I ask for 6 thumbnails, it will give me one every 10 seconds.Can anyone point me in the right direction for anything that may already exist for extracting single frames from video?

Ive been programming in VB6 for years, i figured its time for an upgrade. Here's what im doing, and what the problem is:
Im loading a bunch of pictures on top of one image. They are all PNG files, and some of the images have transparent edges, and some semi-transparency within the image itself.
So basically, i need to be able to load these images on top of the other images, and still maintain the transparency.
Is this possible in VB08? This is one of the main reasons i moved to 08 from vb6, more things possible including multithreading.

I'm having a problem getting the src of the image the mouse is hovering over in a webbrowser. I can get an href just fine, just not an src. To get the href, I used this

I am trying to edit an image. I can open the image with Picturebox1.load(mypicture)
I can change the pixels/edit the picture by Dim img as new bitmap(picturebox1.image)

now here is the weird part. When I save the image the filesize INCREASES..but the picture dimensions are the same Example... TEST.PNG 1.3KB, when opened up via picturebox/saved the image is now 2.3KB
not sure why...i even though I specify system.drawing.imaging.imageformat.PNG
samething with JPG... it actually SHRINKS it evenmore.. example 88KB jpeg.. saved as jpeg is now 47.7KB...

I have this code:

And i can't delete the file even though I've loaded it into a picture box. If I add this line:
xx.dispose the picture box becomes a big red X. I only want to delete the images when my application is closing (they are temp files). So shall I just dispose them before I delete them?

I'm currently patching an asp.net program where I need to be able to send an image to an SQL Server 2005 DB. It works fine when I use the asp:fileupload control, but the trick is that when the user deletes the image, I'm supposed to replace it with an image from the server saying "empty", in code-behind. I know how to open, use and save text files in vb, but I can't find any information anywhere on how to open an image / binary file in a similar manner so that I can use it as an sql-parameter on the update query. I am trying to read a 16bit binary file (tif image) and pixel values of the image ranges from 1200 to 4500. I tried to use BinaryReader using ReadUInt16 but I get EndOfStreamException Unhandled error. ReadByte method works fine with an 8bit tif file. I do not know how to read a 16bit image file using binaryReader. Shouldn't I use ReadUInt16 since values of pixels range from 1200 to 4500?

I have a listview control. it has an imagelist attached to it with two images in it. I have entered items into my listview, and they are using the first image in my imagelist.... GREAT! Now, there is a variable I have that will tell me which index in the listview is currently active, noting to do with what I select that could be at another index it's just what's being processed by the program at the time in some task.
Create a function that will change the images of all my listview items by looping through them. If the index variable is set to 2, I want the 3rd item in my list view set to use the 2nd image in my imagelist. The rest of the items in my listview need to be set to the first image in the imagelist.

I need to keep the original Ratio of the Width to Height of an image file within a picturebox, basically I will have to adjuest either the width or the Hidth of it. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I do this? I was thinking I would have to get the Width and Height attributes of the Picture file with an integer and use a little bit of math to determine the approprate size of the picturebox object.

I created a new cursor (it works properly, I tried it in windows 7) but is not working for me in the program.I took the Windows cursor (aero_helpsel_xl, from C:WindowsCursors) and it appears to me the same error.i use with this code:

edit: I realized what the problem ... It can read only cur files with 24-bit color and lower - but it shows only two colors: black and white.
