VS 2008 Visual Aspect Of Controls?

Mar 25, 2010

I would like to ask some questions about the controls placed on forms :1) I noticed that VB .NET can create applications with XP visual style . If the "Application framework" is not activated , though , the controls look like those used in Win98 . This is useful to me sometimes . However , I wonder , is it possible to also see those controls in Win98 style during design time ? I am asking because during design time the controls on forms are represented with XP style no matter what style is selected .

This usually creates a problem to me because I can't properly set the dimensions for labels in order to fit their text . So , is there a way to also see those controls in Win98 style during design time ?2) Now this might be funny : I like both styles , so is there any way I could use both of them in the same project ?

VS 2008 Copying Only The Visual Aspect Of A Control?

Mar 20, 2011

I notice when I copy a control over a form (i.e. by copy - paste) , I don't only copy the visual aspect of the control but also the code is altered in relation with the new control . For example , lets say we have a Button on the form which is supplied with a sub for handling the Click event . If I copy the button then the existing sub will handle the new button too ! But I don't want that , I only want to copy the button (i.e. it has some specific color , dimensions , font etc and therefore it's faster to copy an existing one instead of creating a new one)

C# - Start With Aspect Oriented Programming?

Mar 27, 2009

So having read some of the PostSharp documentation presented as an answer to my previous question regarding passive logging ([URL]), I am led to my next question: Where is a good place to start learning about Aspect Oriented Programming - I've done some searches on Google and I've read some articles - including the article regarding the topic on Wikipedia, but a lot of the material seems to assume you have a basic understanding of some of the terms which I seem to be missing, and that which doesn't just dives straight into integration leaving me not understanding what exactly it is I'm integrating.

Does anyone have any decent material targeted at someone who's never heard of Aspect Oriented Programming before today learn about the core concepts, terms/keywords etc? Even a birds-eye - i.e. These are the core concepts, keywords to look out for, what they stand for and how they fit together. After that, I can probably make some decent headway on my own. I'm most interested in AOP in relation to .NET development,

Resize Images And Aspect Ratio In Net?

Jul 7, 2010

I'm using a web cam that takes 320 X 240 pictures. This sort of gives the picture a "landscape" look to them, and I need to re-size the pictures to a 169 X 225 "portrait" picture. Its for a badge program. Anyway, when I re-size the pictures, they get all scrunched up because of the difference in aspect ratio. Is there a way to re-size the image and the aspect ratio at the same time? Would this be considered cropping or resizing? I'm a little confused on where to begin. I mainly use VB, but if someone has a good example in C#, ill take the time to convert it.

Cropping Tool For Picture And Aspect Ratio

May 18, 2012

How can I build a cropping tool such as the one in Office Picture Manager as seen below? Notice that as soon as the Aspect ratio is selected a cropped area shows on the picture that can be dragged to the perfect position creeping the aspect ratio in tact. This is why I wanted somehow to link my app. to Picture Manager. I want the picture to open in Picture Manager, cropping tool already selected, ready to be dragged to the perfect position. Unless you have some code that can do jut this.

.net - AddHandler For Custom Controls Error Visual Studio?

May 27, 2012

I have a MouseEnter event which currently handles some custom controls on my form. The program is a card game. I have a collection (handCards) that gets populated when the user draws a card and then it adds the latest card to the form. This collection holds cards of various custom types, all which inherit from picturebox. Drawing the cards from the deck and adding them to the form works fine. The trouble I am having is that at runtime, after a card is drawn and added to the form, I've created an addhandler line of code to have those cards respond to my MouseEnter event, but my addhandler line of code is telling me that MouseEnter is not an event of object. How can I get around this so that after a card is drawn and added to the form, when the mouse enters the new custom control, my MouseEnter event fires? Here's one of the many things I've tried and what I think should be the simplest and easiest that should work.deck.DrawCard()AddHandler handCards(handCards.Count).MouseEnter, AddressOf Cards_MouseEnter

P.S. the MouseEnter event works fine for custom controls that are on the form prior to runtime and all it does is take the image of the control and enlarge it by placing the image to a bigger card on the form.

Migrating Visual Studio Controls Onto Third-Party Form

Jun 15, 2009

I have a Form which has a variety of controls on it backed by an abundance of code. I am contemplating replacing some of the controls with third-party controls. What is the easiest way to do this? That is, in a simple example, I may want to just replace the Form itself (i.e. use third-party form and keep using Visual Studio controls). Is it possible to migrate all the existing controls over to the new form. Or do you have to create everything from scratch on the new form (i.e. create all the controls from scratch, name them the same, and use the old code. Note I am assuming the third party controls have all the same properties which may not be the case).

.net - Visual Studio's Windows Forms Designer From Deleting Controls?

Apr 20, 2010

With several forms of mine, I occasionally run into the following issue: I edit the form using the designer (Visual Studio 2008, Windows Forms, .NET 2.0, VB.NET) to add components, only to find out later that some minor adjustments were made (e.g. the form's size is suddenly changed by a few pixels), and controls get deleted. This happens silently — event-handling methods automatically have their Handles suffix removed, too, so they never get called, and there's no compiler error. I only notice much later or not at all, because I'm working on a different area in the form.

As an example, I have a form with a SplitContainer containing an Infragistics UltraListView to the left, and an UltraTabControl to the right. I added a new tab, and controls within, and they worked fine. I later on found out that the list view's scrollbar was suddenly invisible, due to its size being off, and at least one control was removed from a different tab that I hadn't been working on.

Is this a known issue with the WinForms Designer, or with Infragistics? I use version control, of course, so I can compare the changes and merge the deleted code back in, but it's a tedious process that shouldn't be necessary. Are there ways to avoid this? Is there a good reason for this to occur?

One clue is that the control that was removed may have code (such as a Load event handler) that expects to be run in run time, not design time, and may be throwing an exception. Could this cause Visual Studio to remove the control?

How To Design Visual Controls To Act Like Electronic Selector Or Volume Dial

Jun 2, 2010

1- Rotary Selector to rotate and select an option. (maybe up to 16 steps per rotation or 0 to 15.)

2- Rotary dial to act like a volume control. This actually selects a value between 0 to 255 or 0 to 1023. (is this too many steps?)

3- Bunch of selector push buttons to act like the old car radio selector? (pushing one resets the other buttons. Just like old car radios?)

VS 2008 Loop Through Controls Doesn't Get All Controls?

Jan 21, 2011

I am rather irritated at this. I have no clue why looping through controls on a form and in groupboxes leaves out 75% of the controls.

Here's the code I have:

Dim settings As String = ""
Dim gbControl As Control
Dim gbbox As Control

[Code]....

I want to have setting save all settings to an ini file, and not have to reprogram the saving routine when I add a group box or control. At random times, any number of controls can be disabled, checkboxes can be checked and unchecked, radiobuttons can be checked and unchecked. Regardless of the state of the control, I want the control to show up in the loop. But they don't. Only controls that are enabled and only checkboxes that are checked, every other control state is ignored. That's crap, and is definitely not what is needed by any programmer of any type. We're capable of determining if a control is enabled, hidden, checked, visible, and otherwise.

How do I get the controls to be included in the loop regardless of their state?
