VS 2008 Creating 'windows' In Forms?

Just looking for a bit of advice really on the best way to go about something.I am creating a new freeware game in which I am creating like OS for the game. So far I have the OS Home screen (Desktop) with a menu a bit / time / date etc.hat I am trying to do (and not sure the best way to do it) Is I want to be able to create windows within my virtual desktop 'form' as Windows does essentially for instance clicking on 'start' and going to 'Internet Explorer'I have turned the boreder style to no the desktop form and any other thing I do so its my look and feel but I am not sure the best way to go about this. I possibly thought creating my 'windows' as panels and just showing and hiding them but that doesn't appear to work when I overlay them.

Creating a pdf document using Itext is quite simple if your application is a web application because you can find samples to help you out all over the web. Creating a pdf document for a windows application on the other hand is not so easy. I cannot find a single sample online anywhere.so far this is what I have:

m planning to make it as such:1. BLL and DAL are on the same box.2. Only PL is installed on client machines.Simple enough. Right now am planning to go web service as I have no idea how to do this with windows forms. So in a nutshell, my question would be how to connect the PL to the BL and how to do this during the development stage. I was planning on deploying the BL as a webservice then during development, the PL sets a reference to it to get the data.Data will basically be datasets, datatables etc. Might also have a need to do some file transfer.

I'm looking to be a able to add my own windows shortcuts which take effect when my own program is running in the background.For example, if the user has Notepad open, they may press Alt+F4 to close it. I would like the Windows Key + Q to do the same action.So Windows Key + Q = Alt + F4.There are a few shortcuts I would like to do but if someone could help me do it for this one then I should be able to take it from here.

I'm making a LAN instant messenger and I'm trying to achieve something similar to how MSN will open a new chatting window when you double click on a friend. My main form has a list of friends, and I want to create a new chat window when they double click on one of those friends. I've created a "template" chat form which I want to generate dynamically, and I've run into some problems I need help with. Lets look at the code I already have.

using Vb Net 2008 with SQL Express 2008 R2 in windows forms. that being said, I have a syntax problem in this form, form has 2 texbox an a datagridview and also the 4 components DataSet. BindingSource. TableAdapter, BindingNavigator. Is there a way to provide the username and password for the data connection from a Login form and not have it stored in a Connection string? Even better, is there a way to invoke the SQL login window each time the app starts? I need each user to be able to use his own (sqlserver) login everytime the application is started.

I thought that I would make a WCF based media player in a standard windows form so I whipped up the following:[code]The video loads ok when the btnLoadAndPlay button is pressed..However the uc.Stop in the btnStop_Click does not stop the video any ideas why this may be happening?

I'm looking forward to reading and adding more to the community here. I've created a text based rpg. Next semester we are learning Visual Basic. I'm on winter break and I would like to get a head start on my learning. I've been working on creating some forms and message boxes. What is throwing me off, is that I have a good feel for doing coding so that I get functionality the will produce effects in a console. Coding the forms is a bit confusing for me. Is this something that others have run into? Is their some good primers for VB? I don't have my text books yet.

I am using a Windows Dialog form in my VB 2008 project. I bring up the dialog form no problem with the following

And in the Dialog Form, the OK button has code
Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK

But there is one problem. If I call up the dialog form again, the form controls have the text values that were typed in during the previous instantiation and a class which is part of the form was not disposed. So it looks like the form is being "hidden" and not closed. I tried to use the code form.dispose but it didn't work.

I have a program that I am creating in a windows form to track information about computers that I build for each project I do. The way I have my form layout is two buttons on the top of the form(1 for adding a computer and the 2nd to remove a computer) I then have a Tab window where when I want to add a computer I use the "Add button" click event to create a new tab and add a user control "Computer" that I created that contains all of the default fields that I desire (i.e. serial numbers os type, product key etc.) The "Computer" user control also contains two buttons (1 for adding a PC Card and the 2nd to remove a PC Card) The PC Card is another user control that I have created that has all of the desired fields I require for PC Cards. I am able to add new computers with no problem and name the tab

In a windows forms class in Visual Basic 2008, there are several horizontal lines created with the lineshape control dragged from the toolbox. A very strange thing is happening with the horizontal lines. In the forms designer, all of the the lines (both horizontal and vertical) look fine, but when the program is executed (in debug mode), about 3 seconds after painting the screen nicely, I get echos of portions of the horizontal lines about 50px or so above my horizontal lines. i am working Vb.NET 2008 Windows Appl. I was created some Forms which are having some controls. If i run the Appl in my sys its working fine. But if run .exe file into other system like Windows 7 with 125% text size, then the forms and Controls are expanding i want to scroll it out. Is it any solution for fit these Controls and Forms or comapre the screen size and resize the forms and controls automatically..

I am using VB 2008 & Access 2007 for windows forms application having typed datasets while creating connection to DB vb asks to store connection string so i did it now that i want to know where is the actual path of file where these connection strings are stored. b'cas after runnig a macro in Access Database i lost all these connections from Data Source Configuration Wizard Combo Box & also i am anable to create a new connection to Databases.I have tried to reinstall the entire Visual Studio couple of times .

In a label box, I want to list a couple of websites, email address along with some text. How do I go about it?
Potential uses- As a Help > About dialog box where websites, email of the author can be listed.
To make things as easy as possible for the user, and encourage visiting of the mentioned websites.
Simple text will be ignored, while standard blue color, underlined text with hand mouse-cursor will need no thinking on user's part.

When I develop a Windows Forms app in Visual Studio using C#, every control that I add to my form is by default marked as private, which is what I want.
When using VB.NET, every control is by default marked as Friend (the equivalent of internal in C#), which is not what I want.
Can I just change this default? It seems like surely it's a setting somewhere.

I have cooked up my first iteration of a code generator which creates the basic Entity models from a SQL Database Schema. Currently, It will scan a SQL Db Schema, and create .vb code files complete with private members and Public property declarations for every User table in the Database. My next step is having it add the basic CRUD procedures as well. Are we mere mortals able to access whatever technology allows the Partial class files created by vs to be hidden/Linked to their "parent" files, such as the Partial Class files for Windows forms or any other designer-generated control? My thinking is that it would be handy to be able to re-generate code files from the database if necessary to reflect changes in the schema, without overwriting any other properties or methods added to a class in addition to those derived from the database. SO I am hoing I can have the Auto-generated output go to a Partial Class file, and then use a regular class file of the same name for the rest of the code. My Concern is the multiplicity of files that might result, so I was hoping it is possible to "tuck them in" to the parent code file in the Class View.
