VS 2008 - Decrypt Data Error "Padding Is Invalid And Cannot Be Removed"
Aug 6, 2009
I'm trying to decrypt some data but I get this error: Padding is invalid and cannot be removed. It highlights the _streamWriter.Close() line. This is the code I'm using to decrypt a file:
I have been writing a security class in my application, I am able to encrypt the string correctly and without error. However every time when I try to decrypt this string again, i get an error with this as it returns the following Padding is invalid and cannot be removed.
Here is the code:
Public Function DecryptKey(ByVal plainText As SecureString, ByVal key() As Byte, ByVal iv() As Byte) As SecureString
I have found simular issues on web, and most of them say that the IV is not the same the encrypted version, but I can confirm that the IV is the same as they both access the exact same variable.
I am using RijndaelManaged to encrypt just 4 bytes of data which produces a 16 byte result (i am using a 128 block size). When I try to decrypt these 16 bytes I get the message "Padding is invalid and cannot be removed.". (The base stream of the CryptoStream is a MemoryStream based on just these 16 bytes).
vb.net Imports System.Security.CryptographyImports System.TextImports System.IO Public Class EncryptFile Private Shared Buffer(4096) As Byte Private Shared _Rijndael As New RijndaelManaged Private Shared _Hash As New SHA256Managed Private Shared _Encoding As New UTF8Encoding Private Shared IV As Byte() = {12, 4, 58, 74, 52, 33, 69, 87, 47, 8, 23, 69, 85, 47, 85, 21} Private
[code]....
When I encrypt a file it gives me no error, but when I decrypt a file it gives me this error: Padding is invalid and cannot be removed. In this line:
vb.net cStream.Close()
I don't understand why, because I'm using the same IV and the same key, I've even checked the generated hash, and to me, it seems the same.
I am trying to build an Encryption/Decryption class/extension. I am able to encrypt the data no problem, but when I try to decrypt the data I am getting "Length of the data to decrypt is invalid."
Here is the entire class file. Imports System.IO Imports System.Text Imports System.Text.Encoding Imports System.Security.Cryptography Imports System.Runtime.CompilerServices Imports System.ComponentModel [Code] .....
I am trying to learn how to read XML file and created a little program below to start testing what I have read but keep getting error "Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1"The line where the error is coming from is the line "xmldoc.LoadXml(strFile)".. any ideas?
Code: Private Sub cmdReadXML_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdReadXML.Click Dim clsk As New clsHx

I am attempting to send my XML file through an API. I have done this no problem by using the below code, however when I try and send the FILE over it will not work, I am now getting in the browser:
Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 39.
Without trying to send FILE it works:
' create the Xml that the Msxml2.serverXmlHttp object will send to the Webservice dim Xml_to_Send Xml_to_Send = "<?xml version=""1.0"" encoding=""utf-8"" ?>" Xml_to_Send = Xml_to_Send & "<xmldata>"
The above line prints the data contents of the ROData array in position three. I would like to be able to assign a specific position accross the line to have the printer print the data at without left padding the array data.
treeval = e.Node.Text Dim strVal As String = New String("LDAP://10.22.67.21:389/OU=Linkway,OU=Desktops,OU=Devices,DC=domain,DC=suffix") Dim domain As New DirectoryEntry(strVal & "'DOMAINusername', 'password'")
I am running the same program on two workstations. One reveals no errors while the other shows a "COM exception error: invalid parameter." The offending line of code is shown below. Is there an explanation for the inconsistency?
I am using VB.Net 2008 Express and trying to build a favorites list for a webbrowser I am working on.I get an invalid parameter error on the line that reads favicon = image.FromStream(stream).[code]the urls are stored in an array after they are taken from an xml file.I checked the url that was being used when the error occurs and it seems fine. I can even navigate to it in IE.The error I get is that "stream" is an invalid parameter, at least that is where it points to.It also shows that stream is a type System.NET.ConnectStream.Stream was originally set to System.IO.Stream.I don't know if this is a problem but it processes several urls before it gets to this one.I am wondering if this may be a permissions issue and the site is blocking the WebRequest or if it is something else.
We are developing an application that looks like this: Mainwindow - PaneGroup - Pane
What we want to do is add a handler (AddHandler Pane, AddressOf MethodName) on the mainwindow and throw the event in the Pane. When we want something to change on a collection in the mainwindow, we throw that event in the Pane.
My question is if the pane is removed from the panegroup (doesn't exist anymore), does that handler still live on the mainwindow?
I made an app in vb.net express edition after publishing there are many files in published folder, my question is if a user removes any of files in the published folder or replaces it with other files and runs the app the app must show an error is it possible?
Error #1 Encrypt works but decrypt does not. This is b/c the file extensions in TextBox1.Text is .txt and it is looking for .enc Error #2 If I enter in the file.enc the file will be decrypted but it will have the file extensions .dec. How can I copy the extensions (.txt) and replace the .dec after it was decrypted.
I am using a dataset class, associated binding source, and a table adapter. There is no binding navigator. Inserts and updates work well. However, though deletions look like they are working as they should, when the form is closed the user is prompted with a message do you wish to save data. Upon doing so the error "this row has been removed from a table and does not have any data. beginedit" is displayed. To delete the record I am simply running the following
code:UserRolesBindingSource.EndEdit()UserRolesBindingSource.RemoveCurrent()The form save routine is simply:Try UserRoleBindingSource.EndEdit taUserRoles1.Update(me.dsARMData.UserRoles)Catch ex as Exception MessageBox.Show(ex.message.tostring)End CatchWhen I did have a bindingNavigator on the form, there were no issues with deleting records and doing subsequent saves.. I understand the binding navigator also calls the RemoveCurrent of the binding source, but what else is it doing to not have the error message display that I don't have?
I'm using WMI code and VB 2008 to see NIC status. So far the queries are working, but the methods aren't. For example, I'm trying to set a network card to use DHCP, I get invalid function with this code:
Dim classInstance As New ManagementObject("rootCIMV2", "Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration.Index='7'", Nothing) Dim outParams As ManagementBaseObject = classInstance.InvokeMethod("EnableDHCP", Nothing, Nothing)
1. How to get 0 padding/inner margin in the cells? I want just the border as a colored line at the next close pixel to the control in the cell. Or if border set to none, I want the controls with no gap.
2. How do I actually add/remove rows& columns? I thought this was by setting the .ColumnCount property, but if I set it to 3, and then try to access the third column, it gives exception, so it's obviously just two columns, although it also looks like 3 on the form. ? I created it in designer with 2 columns though. But I don't understand how this hangs together..
Dim z0, z1, z2 As New ZedGraphControl z0.Dock = DockStyle.Fill z1.Dock = DockStyle.Fill
If you have a Control contained within another Control and the Child Control has the default Anchoring (Top + Left) AND AutoSize=False (Assuming the control has that Property) changing the Parent Control's Top or Left Padding will not offset the Child Control. If you change the Anchoring of the Child Control to anything other than the default values OR set AutoSize=True, the Control is correctly offset when the Parent Control's Padding values are changed.
Im having a problem in my coding. I am doing a username and password application (sumtthing like a password keeper).
So I have created the interface and i integrated vb 2008 with sql server 2008. So the adding of account and password all went fine.
I have applied aes 128 bits for the password. that means when the user enters a new record for example an email and he click save, the password will automatically be encrypted before it is saved in the database.
now im having a problem where when i want to display the password in the gridview of vb.net (i decided to use grid view to show all the username and password), i am having trouble in decrypting the password column to show the real password to the user.
of course user cant decrypt the password using their brains. so I want to know how to choose dat particular column (password column) and decrypt it before it appears in the gridview.
bcoz now it is appearing gibberish i.e. aes 128 bits. Below i show u some snippet of my codes in encrypting and storing it in the database. [code....]
i have 2 computers - a Server and a Client pc which is running on local area network with MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2008 R2 Developer kit at the main pc and Client computer will need to connect to SQL SERVER at main pc using connection string.Let me named server computer as 'MAGNA-PC' and the client pc as 'LAC-PC' and database name is 'db_referafriend' so the code for MAGNA-PC(server) connection string is:[code] i GOOGLE and YOUTUBE for almost 2 weeks before i post . I know that i need to configure the sql configuration manager and enable tcp/ip also add a new port at firewall to allow remote connection also add the sqlserver.exe and sqlbrowser in firewall and I have also chosen "Using both TCP/IP and named pipes" under Remote Connections in the SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration. and all of this doesnt work!
I have a list view with 2 columns (Prodduct and Price). I want the user to be able to add there own values to the listview and have them save so that they will always stay there.I would also like users to be able to delete specific items from the saved list.
The values added to the colums are paired, and must stay together, as one value would be a product and the other a price, So they must, stay together. as a pair
What are the best way to encrypt and decrypt stream of data ?I would like that my program read a file.. and unencrypt it in memory then when it save it.. it encrpyt the stream and save it.
