I have tried to query the data in Access but the filter that is on the query does not transfer over to the datagrid. I would like to be able to filter the information on the datagrid, but I do not want to use a text box or combo box. Here is a sample of the data that I am working with:

What I'm trying to do here is allow the user to search and sort the dgv based off of the character or string that is he/she inputs into a textbox. The things I want to validate are:
The textbox is not blank, and if not blank has valid information. (easy enough)
The dgv has actually been populated from the dataset!!!!!
The second I can't seem to nail down, regardless of what I use. I have tried using rowcollections, columns.count(), cell, item, and a few other properties all of which either get skipped over by my if statements or throw an index is out of range error.
When I use a command such as:

I am going out to the database, gathering the requested information and filling the dataset. Therefore, everytime I add a query to a table adapter, it is also going to the database to get the information. So, my question is, how do I fill a table in a data set with all the records in the database table and then, filter the information I've already collected in the dataset without going back out to the database again?

Looking for a way to filter a datagrid using a combobox (to select the field that the user wishes to search) textbox (to input search terms for specific records). The datagrid loads fine as does the combo containing the fields, however my filter simply does not work.

The issue is in the last line. ID_Part is an Int64 data type filters(0) is a string so the system returns a "Can't perform 'Like' operation on System.Int64 and System.String" error message.As you can see I tried converting the data type, but that failed since it is encased in String.Format()- it's going to be a string no matter what, I suppose.It's almost 1:00 a.m. so I'm not firing on all cylinders.

i have a form with a textbox, datagridview, tabcontrol. I use the tabcontrol to create an indexed view of the datagrid using the alphabet to filter the records to show the respected fields according what tab was selected. The textbox I have on the form is databinded to a field of a table in the database. The datagrid is also databinded to the same table in the database. I am still having issues with the combo box. I have the correct query. I have four tables in MS Access. I need to create a form in Visual Basic that has a combo box and a datagrid. The selection from the combo box will display all relevant information about that person on the datagrid. I am writing a program that uses several textboxes that a user will fill in and then click the add button to add the data into the datagrid. There is no backend database or anything. Just seeing the data in the program only.
What I want to do is then export this data from the datagrid into a file, preferably excel.
I've done copying textbox data into txt files but I can't find a method to copy datagrid data into a file.
