DataGrid Filter While Having A Null Value?
Jun 10, 2012
using strongly-typed ms access 2007 database , vs 10 i have a problem with datagridview filter i have 4 columns and allowDBnull is true , null value is empty my problem is that i need to have 4 textbox to filter the columns so i used in the texchanged
Me.PartsBindingSource.Filter = "Convert(partsn, 'System.String') LIKE '%" & TextBox1.Text & "%'" & " and Convert(description, 'System.String') LIKE '%" & TextBox2.Text & "%'" & " and Convert(Position, 'System.String') LIKE '%" & TextBox2.Text & "%'" & " and Convert(model, 'System.String') LIKE '%" & TextBox4.Text & "%'"
which works just fine , except for the rows which contains any null value as those rows are hidden all the time once i change the text, even when i clear the textbox they keep hidden i can only see them once the form is loaded to cut it short, i need to make a filter to the datagridview , that filter should show the rows even if one of the cells is null?

I try to filter a datagridview and I wrote an sql statement for that reason. The problem is that although I achieved to have multifilter I can find how to make my cod ignore the criteria which are null (empty criteria, when the user doesn t give any values). I tried the code below but I know that it isn t correct.

I've using binding source filter to filter the data i see in the datagrid based on the value of the cell (this is in relation to the checkstate of a checkbox column), so far so good
InvBindingSource.Filter = "Saved = '1'"
what if i wanted to filter and only show the rows with null in that column?

I have a BindingSource that is my DataGridViews data source. I want to filter for all rows where column1 is blank. For example, one row may contain a null value, some rows may contain just white space, and other rows may contain text. How do I show just the rows with text (or numeric, or date) values?
Also, how do I filter for non-blank rows? This would show me all rows that contain a blank cell.
Me.BindingSource.Filter = ?

how to filter the datagrid view? what i mean is, the data that will only show in the datagridview depends on the date selected on the DateTimePicker(dtpDate) example if the value of Date is march 20 2012 the data that will only show on the datagrid view is the event that is save on the march 20 2012. also to arrange it ascending based on time.

Kinda new to working with wpf apps (and vb.net). Looking for a way to filter a datagrid using a combobox (to select the field that the user wishes to search) textbox (to input search terms for specific records). The datagrid loads fine as does the combo containing the fields, however my filter simply does not work.
Code for loading data (works fine)
Dim obj = Me._dataManager.Collections.ReturnCollectionByID(tableSelectionCombo.SelectedItem.TableID)
Me.DataGrid.ItemsSource = obj
obj.Load(New DataManagementDataRequest(Nothing, Nothing))
Code for filtering (not working)
If Me.searchTxt.Text IsNot Nothing Then
obj.filter = selectFieldCombo.SelectedItem.ToString Like searchTxt.Text.ToString
Else
obj.filter = ""
End If

I'm trying to create a Select Distinct query, but i'm getting stuck with either an empty combobox either a filled combobox that displays all the doubles.or a message "System. Data. DataViewManagerListItemTypeDescriptor".I have a form (form5) with 1 combobox and 1 datagrid. The datagrid loads 5 collumns "ID", "firm", "Fname", "mname", "Lname".[code]I would like to select the firm from a combobox and filter the datagrid so that it only displays the selected firm and the people that are registred here. Furthermore i want the combobox that i use for selecting the firms to lose the doubles.I can load the datagrid and load the Combobox, but selecting is only pointing to the record (highlights in the grid) i chooses but doesn't filter.[code]I use the "Me.EmployeesTableAdapter.Fill" method so mu question is, is it possible that i don't need to use the OLEDB connection or do i still need this to correctly connect to the DB (access)? I changed the script that i brewed together as displayed above, but this did not do the trick.

i have a form with a textbox, datagridview, tabcontrol. I use the tabcontrol to create an indexed view of the datagrid using the alphabet to filter the records to show the respected fields according what tab was selected. The textbox I have on the form is databinded to a field of a table in the database. The datagrid is also databinded to the same table in the database. The binding on the textbox breaks when I press on a tab to change the filter type. On the tabcontrol.selectedindex event I have this code to filter and fill the datagrid is: conn.Open()

I'm writing a windows forms project in Visual Studio 2008 - VB, data are stored in SQL database.- I have a date field within Datagrid that could be Null or have a date in it. I had set it to show <none> when it's Null (Null is allowed for this field). The problem that I got is when user would need to delete the date from that date cell within the grid. I'm getting an error immediately after pressing "Delete" to clear the cell value. I had put in a work around - added the code for grid DataError event and assigned DBNull.Value to that cell and user is able to type in <none> for that cell or just press save, but it won't allow to go to the next cell in the grid if you don't save or type <none>. I'm sure that there is a better way handlig situation like that. May be using different event? I wasn't able to find anything else on it.- the other issue in the datagrid - if user fills in 3 cells out of 5 for example and press save while in the 3d cell - it won't save the value in the 3d cell. I also put a work around to check for the values in specific cells before saving but the problem with it - few cells could be Null (and should be Null). I can't check every single cell value and force user to type something in it.

I get a 'Conversion from type DBNull to String is not valid' error when I proceed to insert the row with a null cell value from my program to MS Sql Server even if the column is already set to accept null values in the database. I am trying to filter the results of a datagridviw using the bindingsource.filter method.
Dim filters(2) As String
...
If Me.txtPartIDFilter.Text = "" Then
[code]....
The issue is in the last line. ID_Part is an Int64 data type filters(0) is a string so the system returns a "Can't perform 'Like' operation on System.Int64 and System.String" error message.As you can see I tried converting the data type, but that failed since it is encased in String.Format()- it's going to be a string no matter what, I suppose.It's almost 1:00 a.m. so I'm not firing on all cylinders.
