Ignore Null Filter Criteria?
Feb 15, 2012
I try to filter a datagridview and I wrote an sql statement for that reason. The problem is that although I achieved to have multifilter I can find how to make my cod ignore the criteria which are null (empty criteria, when the user doesn t give any values). I tried the code below but I know that it isn t correct.

I am trying to filter a list of (t) by multiple criteria. here is what i have:
[Code]....
I now want to filter this list by myObject's various properties. Heres the problem:
1. A user should be able to either filter on one specific custName or remove the filter for this property AND
2. A user should be able to either filter on one specific notificationDate or remove the filter for this propertyl AND
3. A user should be able to either filter on one specific materialType or remove the filter for this property
I know I can just write a lot of if..then but i'm looking for a more elegant solution.

I've got a form that populates a DataGridView from an excel file. How would I filter that DataGridView so only the search criteria are visible. I need to search through 2 columns by all rows. I'm not very good with datasources I guess and can't figure out what all I need to accomplish this. DataSets, DataViews, DataTables.

I'm writing an app for someone where I am pulling in work orders table information. The information includes: worknum, fname, lname, customername, description, etc. I do not plan to update the data in this table, only to read from it.I'd like to display a combo box for the work order numbers. The user would start typing the information for the work order in and it would autocomplete based on what's in the list. As work orders are displayed in the combo box, I want to update the data in text boxes representing the various fields.
I'm thinking rather than query the database several times, it would be a good idea to create a DataSet with information for the work orders table within the last x months then query the data from that dataset. I know there is a DataSet.Select method, but it looks like it returns the entire row. Is it possible to retrieve just a column of distinct values? For example, I'd like to do a select statement similar to this:
SELECT worknum FROM {WorkOrderDataSet} WHERE date >'{today-x}
The first part in curly brackets is meant to represent the work order dataset I create when first importing the data from Access. The second part in curly brackets will be replaced with variable data to represent a date to reference. I also don't think I'll need distinct because the workorder is unique (edit: is a primary key)Is it possible to retrieve just a column of distinct values from a DataSet with multiple columns? How do I do this?

So I want my program to read a file, but sadly there are null characters in the text file. The program searches for strings and I want it, when searching, to ignore all of the null values and just the actual characters. Is this possible?

I would like to query an Employee by matching First and Last name. Ideally, I'd like to be able to specify that in one EmployeeQueryRq QBFC object.
I think I have a start:
Dim EmployeeQueryRq As IEmployeeQuery
EmployeeQueryRq = requestMsgSet.AppendEmployeeQueryRq()
EmployeeQueryRq.ORListQuery.ListFilter.ORNameFilter.NameFilter.MatchCriterion.SetValue(ENMatchCriterion.mcContains)
EmployeeQueryRq.ORListQuery.ListFilter.ORNameFilter.NameFilter.Name.SetValue(LastName)
Is there any way I can add an additional NameFilter to the same request? Or am I stuck walking a response list for the other criteria (albeit a smaller one limited to containing at least one value)?

using strongly-typed ms access 2007 database , vs 10 i have a problem with datagridview filter i have 4 columns and allowDBnull is true , null value is empty my problem is that i need to have 4 textbox to filter the columns so i used in the texchanged
Me.PartsBindingSource.Filter = "Convert(partsn, 'System.String') LIKE '%" & TextBox1.Text & "%'" & " and Convert(description, 'System.String') LIKE '%" & TextBox2.Text & "%'" & " and Convert(Position, 'System.String') LIKE '%" & TextBox2.Text & "%'" & " and Convert(model, 'System.String') LIKE '%" & TextBox4.Text & "%'"
which works just fine , except for the rows which contains any null value as those rows are hidden all the time once i change the text, even when i clear the textbox they keep hidden i can only see them once the form is loaded to cut it short, i need to make a filter to the datagridview , that filter should show the rows even if one of the cells is null?

I have a BindingSource that is my DataGridViews data source. I want to filter for all rows where column1 is blank. For example, one row may contain a null value, some rows may contain just white space, and other rows may contain text. How do I show just the rows with text (or numeric, or date) values?
Also, how do I filter for non-blank rows? This would show me all rows that contain a blank cell.
Me.BindingSource.Filter = ?

I am trying to filter the results of a datagridviw using the bindingsource.filter method.
Dim filters(2) As String
...
If Me.txtPartIDFilter.Text = "" Then
[code]....
The issue is in the last line. ID_Part is an Int64 data type filters(0) is a string so the system returns a "Can't perform 'Like' operation on System.Int64 and System.String" error message.As you can see I tried converting the data type, but that failed since it is encased in String.Format()- it's going to be a string no matter what, I suppose.It's almost 1:00 a.m. so I'm not firing on all cylinders.

I have a fairly simple piece of code:
Private _PurchaseDelivery as PurchaseDelivery
Protected Overrides Sub InsertItem(ByVal index As Integer, ByVal item As PurchaseDeliveryItem)
[Code]....
Which is inside a class which overrides a custom list base. The code is occassionaly throwing an unhandled exception, System.NullReferenceException, on this line when used in production:
If _PurchaseDelivery IsNot Nothing AndAlso _PurchaseDelivery.DefaultSKUBinID.HasValue Then
DeafultSKUBinID is declared as an Integer? (Nullable Int) in the PurchaseDelivery class. I cannot see what might be causing this error, why would this be returning an error?

When I put a break point to the last if clause in the sub ("If (backOrder < 0) Then", see below) it runs until the break point, if I put the break point further below, I get the following error:
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'OrderID', table 'WHM.dbo.OrderDetails'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated.
I've discovered first hand that it only happens when prodqty is bigger then qtyOnStock, thus executing the if clause.
The code:
Private Sub NCOSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NCOSubmit.Click
Dim sqlText As String = ""

Is there a way I can get the parser to ignore these characters?

So I want to now if that possible for .NET languages to ignore error without using try catch construction ?
I can ignore warring with #nowarring 40 for example, can I ignore error ?
simply wanted to call system pause with this way
open System.Runtime.InteropServices
[<DllImport(@"msvcrt.dll")>]
extern void system(string str)
system "pause"
but got Error message
unbalanced stack. This is probably because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature. Make sure that the calling convention and parameters of the PInvoke signature match the target unmanaged signature.
So I don't care, it works. But can I just ignore this error ? without doing weird stuff like that :
try (system "pause") catch |_->()
Ok , I solved my problem by adding CallingConvention=CallingConvention.Cdecl, but what the question was about skipping exceptions, so and I still don't know if I can do it.
So maybe I need to tell some real reason to not be down-voted hard - sometimes it's matters for program to live even with hard errors occupations, but even sometimes you don't need to catch them. You need just ignore them...

I use TortoiseSVN for versioning of my large VB Project in Visual Studio 2008. Once in a while, when editing one of the many typed DataSets, VS feels like switching the position of the attributes
msprop:Generator_ColumnVarNameInTableand msprop:Generator_ColumnPropNameInRow
In like nine THOUSAND places of the .xsd file. Sometimes I use a custom sed-script to reverse it again but most of the time I just commit it without knowing if there was any real change.
Can I prevent Visual Studio from messing with those attributes?
Can I enforce a specific ordering?
Or do I need some workflow within TSVN to ignore or revert such changes?
I wrote a small VB.Net Console app that scans thru the lines, sorting the attributes. It works on text alone as one cannot use xml parsing abilities without a massive increase in execution time and code size.

Does anybody know how to ignore a line(s) of code after a line(s) has executed. Let say you have a button1, and two CheckBoxes. By clicking once button1, cheheckbox1 checked. By clicking agin button1, then CheckBox2 checked. You will probably say that I can do that in diferent way, but it isn't the solution of this problem that I want. This is only an example.

ll app build in VB 2005 that has a DLL. The app runs fine on 32bit systems but fails on 64-bit ones (Failed to load the assembly: BadImageFormat from the DLL). As I could not fix the problem I wish to somehow ignore this error so the rest of the app can run normally. I wish to retain the funcionality on 32-bit systems thus not removing the DLL from the project.
