VS 2008 : Handle The Event Of When The User Checks/unchecks A Checkbox?

Jan 17, 2010

I have a ListView object with the View property set to Details.I also have the CheckBoxes property set to True. Now, how do I get the user's input if they choose to check a box? Right now I am using the ItemCheck event, but that code runs even when I add something to the ListView object. What is the proper way to handle the event of when the user checks/unchecks a checkbox?

Handle The Key Down Event Of The User Control

Dec 19, 2010

I use VB.NET 2010 I have created a user control which holds a few textboxes, where the user can find articles. This user control is added to several Forms (where ever the search is needed). I have to handle the key down event of the user control, but it isn't working... The usercontrols's Key_Down Event is never fired. - I have set KeyPreview of the form to true, then the Key_Down of the Form is fired.

Asp.net - Can A Page Raise An Event That The User Control Can Handle

Mar 13, 2009

I have done this the other way many times as it makes sense (the page knows about the control as it has been added to the page and can handle the 'child' event)

Is it possible to do it the other way? I think not as the control doesn't know what page it is going to be on

The reason i ask this is that I have a modal popup on the page to ask users to login, and it is only when the user has logged in that I want my user control to go away and execute some code but I am not too sure how to tell the control this has happend?

VS 2010 DataGridView - Event When User Edits Checkbox Cell?

Jun 6, 2010

I'm afraid this is a very simple question, but I can't figure it out... I hardly ever use the DataGridView (usually use a third party grid) so I never needed to do this before.Anyway, I have a DataGridView that is data-bound to a List(Of SomeClass). The grid is not ReadOnly, but I made every column ReadOnly except the very first, which is a boolean column so it displays a checkbox. This way, the user cannot edit any cell value, but he can check/uncheck the checkbox in the first column.

What I need now basically is an event that is raised when the user (not programmatically) changes the value of this checkbox. I also need to be able to retrieve the bound item from that event (from the row number I think?) but that should be no problem, I hope.Anyway, there's a bunch of events that looked promising but all have something I don't want:

1. CellBeginEdit - Fires before the checkbox value has changed, so can't use this.

2. CellEndEdit - Only fires after the edited row loses focus. I want to save it back to the database as soon as the user changes the checkbox value!

3. CellValueChanged - Same problem as nr 2.

I'm sure it must be possible for me to react as soon as the user changes the value of the checkbox? How can I do this?

Raise Event Because A User Didn't Not Select A Checkbox Option After Choosing A Certain Value In A Combobox?

Aug 4, 2011

I am new to vb.net and I have looked at other topics. I cannot find the answer I need. OK I have a combobox named cboRaceDesc and five checkboxes (CkRaceAfricanAmerican, ChkRaceAmerican Indian, ckRaceAsian, ckRacePacificIslander, and ckRaceWhite). I was going to post an image, but I cannot.cboRaceDesc has two options...Hispanic and Other. If the user selects Other then they have to choose one of the five checkboxes or it will raise an exception when the record is being saved. I am assuming I would generate the code under the "save" button. I know I need to gather the following information in my code:

If cboRaceDesc.SelectedValue = Other Then
<I am not sure how to code the logic regarding the checkboxes>
<I know I need to use multiple else/else if statements>
<I know towards the end I would generate the exception>
End

Can anyone help me fill in the blanks or point me in the right direction?

VS 2008 - Handle Leave Event For Multiple Textboxes

Aug 23, 2011

Is there another way to handle the leave event of multiple textboxes other then coding in each event handler? I may not be using correct terms instead of doing this: (Existing)
Private Sub leveladjstvaltxt_Leave(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles leveladjstvaltxt.Leave
If Me.leveladjstvaltxt.Text <> "" Then
Dim levels As Integer = CInt(Me.leveladjstvaltxt.Text)
Me.leveladjstvaltxt.Text = Format(levels, "#,###")

I have 30 TextBoxes all need same formatting , so I was trying to come up with something like this: (trying)
For Each ctrl As Control In Me.Controls
If TypeOf ctrl Is TextBox And ctrl.Text <> "" Then
Dim val As Double = CDbl(ctrl.Text)
CType(ctrl, TextBox).Text = Format(val, "#,###")
End If

I am stuck though and don't know where I would place that code if this is something that is even possible. Only thing I can currently think of is in the leave event which defeats the purpose, I wanted to avoid having to place the code in 30 different textoxes leave event.

VS 2008 Handle Click Event Of Component During Design-time

Feb 10, 2010

I have a UserControl with a Panel (Panel1). The UserControl has a property Items (type ControlCollection) that returns the Controls collection of Panel1.Via a custom CollectionEditor, I tell the designer that it should add my custom controls called Item (inheriting Control). For the sake of example, the Item control is just a control with a random background color:[code]The custom CollectionEditor creates new Item controls using the DesignerHost service (and its CreateComponent method), so that they appear as actual components in Panel1, selectable during design-time just like any other control. It might be a little hard to see (because the colored Items are docked to the top), but I have selected the red item, which can also be seen from the Properties list.

As you can see in the code, I attach a Click event handler to each item as it is added to Panel1. When clicked, a MessageBox shows the color of the item. Obviously this is just for the sake of this example, but the point is that I need to be able to click an item and something then needs to happen. This works fine during run-time. I can click each item, and the MessageBox shows. The problem is that it does not work (quite obviously) during design-time. When I click it during design-time, it is simply selected (as any other control) and of course does not register any Click (nor MouseClick) events. But, I need the Click event to fire even when in design-time! Clicking an item corresponds to selecting it, and when selected (even in design-time), some other panel (not shown in this example) should be brought to the front so it gets visible. Now, I have created lots of things very similar to this (clicking an item during design-time), but there has always been one major difference: those items were not actual controls on the form. Instead, they were drawn manually on to their parent (and they only looked like separate controls). Obviously there was no design-time support for those 'items' (as they weren't controls), but I could handle clicking them quite easily: by handling the MouseClick event of the parent, I can check the location and see if it falls within an item. If so, that item was 'clicked' (artificially). This time, the items are actual controls, and this method does not work (the parent does not receive a MouseClick event either). So, does anyone know of any way to do this? The only way I can think of right now (although I have no idea how to implement it) is to somehow 'listen' to changes in the designer selection.

C# - Why All The Event Checks In The ButtonBase WndProc Method - .Net WinForms

Aug 3, 2010

I'm creating a base class for a button that inherits from Control as opposed to ButtonBase.
I'm using reflector to look at ButtonBase to make sure I don't overlook anything important and I'm puzzled with the contents of the WndProc method. There's checks in there for things like button up, click and capture changed, which as far as I can tell are all handled within the relevent 'On' methods of the class.

VS 2010 Accepted Procedure For Abstracting Error Checks All Way Out Of Program / To Read Checks From A File?

Feb 14, 2011

I have a class that needs to check for errors in the data contained in a object. The routines that will check for errors could be implemented in concrete interfaces of supertype IErrorCheck. That way error checks can be discrete and added or removed from the class that requests the error checks. Each IErrorCheck implementation would be programmed against the supertype IErrorCheck (Strategy). But it would be nice not to recompile when checks are added or removed. Is there an accepted procedure for abstracting the error checks all the way out of the program, such as to read the checks from a file?

VS 2008 : Handle Some Event Related To When The TreeView Scrollbar Appears Or Disappears?

I realize if could set up a function which checks the ItemHeight * Nodes.Count, and compares this to the control height. However, this seems clumsy. I have been exploring the object browser (and anylized TreeView with Reflector) and have not found what I am looking for. If there is a way to access the ScrollBar Property at ALL within TreeView, I have not found it.

VS 2008 - DataGridView CheckBox Column (Click Event)

I'm facing a strange problem in my dgv, I have the dgv bounded to a datatable, now I had to add a new column to let the user checks the rows that he/she want to export to a text file. I had the checkbox column, but when I run the application I can't check any row, I try to add in the click event of the dgv to manually check the column but it still not works...

My
VB
da.SelectCommand = com_pfda.Fill(ds, "table_1")dgv_dados_obra.DataSource = ds.Tables("table_1")
Dim dgvColunaCheck As New DataGridViewCheckBoxColumnWith dgvColunaCheck

The code in the click event, because the normal click in the checkbox doesn't worked:
VB If e.ColumnIndex = 7 Then
If dgv_dados_obra.Item(7, e.RowIndex).Value = 0 Then
dgv_dados_obra.Item(7, e.RowIndex).Selected = True
[Code] .....
I don't know why this doesn't work...

Update An Array When The User Checks A Box In A Checked List Box?

Apr 20, 2009

I need to update my array when the user checks a box in a checked list box. I have been struggling with this for awhile and have it working almost perfectly. It adds items just fine, but when I try to remove them it won't do it until I check another box.I have a CheckedListBox called fields, and a ListBox called included, and an array called fieldsArry. Here is the code when the user checks a box:

Private Sub fields_ItemCheck(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.ItemCheckEventArgs) Handles fields.ItemCheck
'We do not want to call the updateFieldArray function when it is just loading up the fields
'because those will already be in our array, but we want to call it all other times.

[code]....

I know why it is only working on one and not the other - my problem is figuring out how to get it to work on both. For whatever reason (this drives me crazy sometimes) when I check a box in the CheckedListBox it runs all the code I put in there before it even checks the box. So I can't just reference that box as a checked box until after all the code in the itemCheck event is finished. I remedied this in the updateFieldArray by including the currently selected item as a included item, which means that even when they are trying to uncheck something (remove it from the array) it is selected and will be included.

VS 2008 Handle Saving User Control Settings On Form Close?

VS 2008 - Implement Event To Detect User Inactivity

Jul 30, 2011

PROJECT TYPE: Windows Forms Application
LANGUAGE: Visual Basic
.NET VERSION: 3.5
IDE: Visual Studio 2008
OPTION STRICT: on
OPTION EXPLICIT: ON

I am developing a parental control application containing a feature that logs a user off of the computer after an administratively set period of time. I do not however want the application to continue counting time against the time limit when the user is not active on the computer. EXAMPLE: Child logs on and is active for an hour then leaves computer for 45 minutes to get dinner. The session timer needs to ignore the 45 minutes of inactivity. I have thought of two ways to accomplish this.
1) Use a SystemEvents.SessionSwith event (to detect the Start Menu > Log Off > SwitchUser action), or
2) Use an event which would detect user inactivity in excess of a set time, e.g. 5 minutes (similar to a screensaver).

Either event would call a method which would simulate a pause feature (as StopWatch and Timer have no pause support that I know of). I believe the 2nd option would prove to be more universally affective as 1) some users do not have Fast User Switching enabled, and 2) users would be required to manually switch users in order to prevent their inactive time from counting against them. My problem arises when I attempt to implement one of these methods. According to the IntelliSense error checking engine, I have absolutely no clue how to do either of these tasks in spite of the research I have conducted on the topic. I would prefer to go with the system idle time approach.
