I'm looking to have a user type something into a text box on a form and then on button press check that against values held in a single column of a single table in a database that I already have linked to the project. If it finds the item in the table Do X if not Do Y?

Here is the code for the TxtUsername (on click):

(So it's like the facebook login if your familiar with it)When user clicks the text box, the gray text already inside gets erased and user is able to type with black text.The problem is that even when the user has typed in the box, every time you click the text box the text still gets erased....It's like the code should be something like If TxtUsername.Text = Anything but "Username" then dont change it to ""

View 13 RepliesI was developing my own project in the university so what i am stack is to have save button which firstly validates what the user enters the form. for instance if the user skips the text fields, i wanted to restrict the user to fill all the form and when he completes, the save must be accomplished.
Here's the code i was trying to put but i was having problem saying the windows.forms.etc is unable to convert the save as Boolean and something like that.

I have a text box labled QTY, which feeds the QTY column on a datatable. the table then is ran through a function that takes the data and converts it to a string which my production machine can read. My problem is this, and its probably really simple (these problems usually are) how to i force the user to use a specific type of input on the txtbox so they would have to put the QTY in the format of 01 02 03 etc etc, i have it set to default to 00 but i want to force the user to haver to input 2 chars.

am trying trying to write some code for a ComboBox that does the following:
1. Allow the user to enter text into the combo box to type entries contained in the list source.
2. Enable autocomplete to assist the user in selecting entries in the list source, both from dropped down state and non dropped down state.
3. Restrict the user from typing an entry that doesn't exist in the list source.
My requirements are:
1. The ComboBox must run some code after a selection has been made or the user has finished typing an entry (not after the focus has been moved to another control)
2. The code must only run once after the user has made a selection from the combobox or has finished typing an entry
The problem: To achieve the above functionality, I had to run code on numerous event's. Sureley there is a better way, here are the events and the reason for the code:

I am trying to create a page where a user can type a document and have it be bold italic or underlined. When the user clicks on bold and italic it should be bold and italic. when they are not clicked it should not be. I am having trouble finding a stable solution. I can only seem to change it to either bold or not bold or italic or not italic and not bold and italic.

Actually this is vb6 to .net converted code. I m getting compile error at following line
temp = Lset(DispElem(i)) bcz Lset is not supported in .Net Lset accept string data type for first parameter and interger for second.If you know any alternet solution or if you have any source code for Explicit convert UDT to string type and vice versa.
On each of my form I have put an 'Exit' button. When user clicks it, another form is displayed (I don't want to use 'MessageBox') asking user whether he really wants to quit. If user clicks yes the form closes. If user clicks no, form is redisplayed.
However, out of 4 forms only one form refuses to redisplay. The code is exactly same on all forms. I have included 2 Express 2008 projects showing one form each in the zip file apps-ssk.zip
When I use this code to open a new form, My maskedtextbox on the new form can't allow the user user t enter any text. This has slowed me down a bit.

What I want to do is when The toolbarbutton1 is clicked it checks for the
Save () - if txtprojend.Text = "" then it displays the message. So far, it does that but then it closes the form. I don't want it to close the form unless the user adds text in txtprojend, as it is a mandatory field.
I need something tje user can type in data to such a parts QTY cost etc. There are no predefined parts list so the user can enter any part name/Number and there is no limit to amount of parts that can be entered.
Does anyone have any idea what might be useful. It was thinks of a listview bu i can't see that you can type into that. I cant use comboboxs because there are no predefined list and i know there is some way to generate text at runtime (i think) but i don't know how to do it and i would prefer a clearer approach.

View 4 RepliesI have an MDI application. Upon starting it, the MDI form is instantiated, then it kicks off a Username/Password log-in form and makes itself invisible(user never sees the MDI form). If the user logs in, the log-in form becomes invisible and the MDI form becomes visible. This works fine, except for one user.When the log-in form comes up, the MDI form is also visible. If he clicks on something, it crashes(certain variables aren't set at that point). If he logs in, however, the log-in goes invisble and everything works fine. This guy is a network admin/IS type and has several versions/hotfixes of the .Net Framework installed. Could that be the problem? Does anyone know what could be causing this problem for this one user and no one else?

With the (0, 50) being the numbers.I will have a form set up like this, A button labeled Generate. 3 Text boxes total, 2 of them side by side with one being low and one high. For example The user will input 5 in the low box at 100 in the high box. Hitting generate the numbers will then be inserted into code and the result being shown in the 3rd text box.

I have a rich text box which I use in order the user is able to add pictures, coloured writing, different font etc... however I need to load specific text in the rich text box when the user load the Form.how I can add (I guess) the HTML to load this every time the user load the form.
