VB 2010 - Assignment - Text File - List All Of The Data From Results.txt In The Listbox

May 4, 2012

I'm studying VB 2010 at uni and struggling with this assignment, I'm stressing now with one week to go before its time to hand it in and still not knowing how to do it (even though i've read the whole textbook!)

I have copied the instructions and the files I have been given.

1 List all of the data from Teams.txt in a Listbox. Include suitable headings.

2 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox (use the same Listbox as in 1 above). Include suitable headings. Note that you cannot assume that the file contains only results for the first 3 weeks of the season. Your program should be able to process a results file with more or fewer results.

3 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox. However, in this case the actual team names should be output (your program will need to get this data from Teams.txt. The data should be formatted so that it is aligned correctly. Include suitable headings.

VS 2008 Loading Listbox Items From .txt File And Code From .txt File?

Feb 24, 2010

Ok here we go again, im a complete beginner to coding and have started with visual studio 2008 using the .net/vb libraries, as my first project i went with an emulation application, and it went great:So now i think its time to move onto a little more advanced tech's, so i added in a combo box and i want to change how my code works, and this is where my troubles are.To start of with the combo box, i have it added to my winform and have 3 items on it 'Action' 'RPG' and 'Sim' and i have made 3 .txt files in the projects root folder with the same names. What i want to have happen is when the user selects for instance 'RPG' from the combo box the items displayed in the listbox change to the contents of the rpg.txt file. After searching around for a few hours and no luck i tried this

Private Sub ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox1.SelectedIndexChanged
If (ComboBox1.SelectedItem = "RPG") Then

VS 2008 Class And Read A Line From A File And Add It Into A Listbox

Sep 12, 2009

I am trying to read a line from a file and add it into a listbox. The SelectedIndexChanged event of the listbox places the selected item (hence, the item I added from the file) into a variable that is declared as a Store (my own personal class.) I can easily add the line from the file into the listbox, but I run into a problem with the SelectedIndexChanged event. When I click on the item in the listbox, I get an error that says "Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'WindowsApplication1.Store'." (I guess this is because I added an item to the listbox that is from a file.) I tried a variety of methods of casting, but nothing seems to work. What can I do to fix this?

VS 2008 List Box Simulating A File Browser?

May 11, 2010

I just started programming at my college and enjoying it a lot. So far only C++ and a few tutorials in VB 2008.I didn't want to stop there and wanted to keep going, but had no idea what to even try working on as I learn. After returning home from college for the summer, my family's business was in need of some program help.

We make Fence Chargers and we receive registrations of them on a regular basis. We write them down as they come in on a form. About once every month or two one of us sits down and types them into a text program similar to notepad, but was first designed to be used in MSDOS, but now used on a windows 98 machine.

(My Father started the business and practically ran it by himself since '96. We are keeping the MSDOS program, firstchoice, until we can use an easier program to keep the warranty registrations. (That and the label printers only work on that computer due to the printer port is going extinct.))

The process is simple. The user inputs the Serial Number, the person/place the owns it, when the registration was made, and optionally where it was bought. I've created a piece of the program that does that in each text field with not program and saves each registration as it's own text file. (Later I'll be adding in a feature to keep record of repairs for each fence charger. Simply, each registration file belongs to a unique charger where it saves the repair notes.)Up to this point I got done. The files are saved with no hassle. Four fields entered by the user, one text file comes out.I'm on the next step where the files are separated into folders of each fence charger model.Executable's location > Warranties > Model > Registration Files

The Second feature I'm working on is a bit of a problem for me. I may be looking at it the wrong way, or not seeing something. The Second feature is going to be a search and edit. The search feature I have not started, just yet, but the showing of files are working, but I want to have the ability to manually select a folder, refresh the list box to show what's in the folder. I got showing of one folder deep, but the next I know it won't work, but can't figure out how to allow it to extend deeper, at least one more folder by click. Then the ability to go back one.
