The files save fine, but when you go to save the file, if you hit the cancel button, it will overwrite the previous file you saved, because it's name was the same and it seems to save the previous file as the new name for your next file. Is there any way to catch if the user clicks cancel, and then exiting the sub if they did?

Jul 17, 2011What im try'ing to do is when a ListBox item is selected and the value has been given with a NumericUpDown box and the ''Add to orderlist'' button is clicked that it saved it to a file called "orders.txt", not at startup but when the first order is made.
Some requirements:
U can't order the same thing twice ( only edit it within the editor ).
The "orders.txt" has to open on a TextBox1 at Form2 ( the text editor ).
And the user can only change the order amount in the edit program.

May 27, 2009I've been trying to figure out how to do this correctly for some time now, and I have seen no insight. I'm trying to successfully save all of the items in a listbox without saving items that are not there. What I mean by saving items that are not there is when it saves, it seems that blanks magically appear in the text file.Here is a sample of my current code to save.

Aug 22, 2010[code]I have one button to play all the stuff, but it needs the full path to the mp3 file to play, but I only saved the File name to the Listbox.So basically, I'm wondering how to be able to still select files in the Listbox and press Play, when the Listbox's Items do not include the full path to the actual files.I know I could just add the full path to the listbox from the beginning, but I don't think that looks good.So maybe someone can point me in the right direction, or maybe provide me some source code.

Mar 19, 2009My question is simple (the answer may not be...), What I am looking for is a way to save a file as an encrypted file (so know one can open it except in visual basic or a way to save it with a unique ending that only visual basic will recognize. I will also need to know of a way to open or load the file to.
This is going to be used in a game I am working on (and yes...I know visual basic isn't really meant for games, but it is coming together pretty well). I was originally going to have it save as a text file, but then everyone could open, read it and even change there stats. That is what this file will contain, the stats for their character, and when they load it, it will place the values into the correct spot.
I am a partial beginner or intermediate coder, I can understand code, I just don't know all there is, like saving and loading, and this is probably a little harder.

Apr 13, 2012I am making some kind of calendar where I can add tasks, so I can easily organise my tasks. For it to complete, I have 3 things I can't figure out how to do it:
1. When I launch the program, I want the items in my listbox to be sorted alphabeticly.
2. I want to save the items in the listbox, so if I close the program and reopen it the items are still saved in the listbox.
3. The items in the listbox all start with a date, fe. "13-4" for today. If that date already passed I want that item to be deleted.

Oct 7, 2009Its a League Organizer, basicly ive started it off with 16 teams and end up with 1(winner) 16 box's on the far left, then 8, then 4, then 2, then 1. the 16 box's have "Team 1" "Team 2" etc... ive put a new/clear/open/save button in that order.
BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...

Feb 24, 2010Ok here we go again, im a complete beginner to coding and have started with visual studio 2008 using the .net/vb libraries, as my first project i went with an emulation application, and it went great:So now i think its time to move onto a little more advanced tech's, so i added in a combo box and i want to change how my code works, and this is where my troubles are.To start of with the combo box, i have it added to my winform and have 3 items on it 'Action' 'RPG' and 'Sim' and i have made 3 .txt files in the projects root folder with the same names. VS 2008 File Association And Opening Program From Save File
Jul 20, 2009I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

Dec 23, 2011i have made a downloader . i use save file dialog to save file but when open save file dialog it does not get the file name and file extension from the source....please help me to make a file downloader which gets the file name and extension automatically from web. my downloader downloads file succesfully but doesn't show its real extension and file loses its default extension.
