any1 has any ideas on how to code a patch maker, (binary differential update) so when i run my patch maker, it output a program (*.exe) that will update files on another machine or local machine, assuming that old files to be updated to a new file having the same data in result;
and also the output patcher should be smaller in size (compressed)currently wad i could think of is a very very simple one but totally useless and not efficient and result large file size patch
1. where mine is read both file data 2. is both byte the same ? 3. [if not same ----> write down the marker value in outputfile1 and byte value in outputfile2] 3. [if same ----> do nothing] 4. read byte if available 5. (marker + 1)
the marker value is how many byte have been advanced so with resulting patcher will read those marker values to advance to the file address (which is the position number) and update accordingly to its byte value outputfile1 is marker values, outputfile2 is byte values corresponding to outputfile1 marker value to advance to the byte position
generate sql script files from their tables and such.I have been told to make a small program that will take as input a mdb filename, and make Create Table commands from every table the database has (in access field naming format), and make Insert into commands for each line of information for each table.piece of code to cycle a hole database non system tables, read their field properties, and then read all their containing rows?
i want to make a Thumbnails Maker, that makes 20 picture of a video and then a file save dialog will appear when its dune. this is my design i have right now
is it possible to make one application send a task to another application and recieve the result from that secondary app?i made a text editor program and i added a scan feature and i made another app that has ocr capabilities.The scanner ability is in my text editor program, the ocr program doesnt scan you have to input an image into it and it will give text result a few seconds later.the prob is alot of times the ocr code uses sooo much memory and crashes when its incorporated with my text editor, but individually each application works fine and doesnt take too much memory. Memory wont be even an issue if the ocr program is standalone so that when it is done decoding image the application can be made to exit. now here is the question, how do i make my text editor send the image to the ocr program and how do i make my ocr program send the text back to my text editor? is it possible? i mean the only way i know off is creating temp files in a certain folder and having a timer on each program that keeps waiting for temp files. That just seems like pretty lame coding to me i was wondering if there's a better way?
Thats the very basic thing & there should be like a template for this & after searching google & VBhelp file for like 3 hours I still cant find how to do it.Let me get to point:I want execute exe, it will decompress a file & exit.I have code, it works. but the CMD console window keeps popping out every time I launch my exe.How can I make No gui application? Im using vb 2008 express

I made a application that will find all the cache from Google Chrome.It works but with a problem. The problem is that each OS stores the cache under different folders for example.
Windows Vista stores it at.strUserDir & AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefault Windows 7 stores it at.strUserDir & AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefaultCache
And Windows XP stores it here.strUserDir & Local SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeUser DataDefaultCache
So my question is how can i write a code that will work on all of the 3 operating systems.I was thinking of using the Environment method but i'm not sure.
I am trying to make a web application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2008 that will accept login credentials and compare them with an Access database for authentication/validation. I found lots and lots of examples for how to do this with a Windows Form App, but none with a ASP.NET Web App. tried to modify the steps for a web app but I'm not sure how to make it work. The database connection is good and the query seems to work fine. Here's where I'm having trouble. In the tutorial, he says to use:
01 Private Sub But_Validate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles But_Validate.Click 02 Private Sub But_Validate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles But_Validate.Click 03 Dim r = Me.UsersTableAdapter1.ValidateUserNamePassword(Me.Txt_UserName.Text,Me.Txt_Password.Text)
[code]....
No matter what I put in for the username and password (as long as they are valid values) I always get a "success," never a failure. I know my query is working right because I put a gridview on the page and bound it to the result from the query; when I type in a user/pass that is not in the database the gridview is blank, when I type in a correct user/pass the gridview displays that row from the database.
I want to make a program that's constantly running on the background and when I hit a specific combination of keys (example ctrl + alt + A) on any application it does *stuff*.
i'm trying to make an application using ms access database. This application is for our class, simply to enter students data and institutions details. However, i got stuck with combo; here is my question and the application background?
I have a database named "StudentData" with table "StudentDetails" with "RECNO" which is Auto Numbered (and is Primary key) and a number of different fields which accepts Students Name, class, accedemic year and so on.
What i want to do with the RECNO is, i want to make a combobox which will be filled with the record number of the students, when i click on any number from the dropdown list, i want the other fields like the txtName (for students name), txtClass, txtACYear etc to be field with each RECNO they belonged to.

Im not asking for any code or anything but i was just wondering if you can make a map in notepad and than turn it into a map in Vb.net. (Like if G in notepad = grass. Have VB switch it to the grass picture.)
My Visual Studio 2008 seems to be corrupted. I can not use the Windows Forms designer. I get an error about: "Make sure the application for the file type (.vb) is installed." Also, under menu item Tools>Options, it says "an error occurred loading this property page" when I try to look at the options for 'Data UI Customization' under 'Windows Forms Designer'
im trying to make a win form application using visual studio 2008 express edition (which is free to download and install).i have installed a ms sql server 2005 on the local server at LAN. i want to display a combo box values from a table inside a database but i dont know how i can do this with ms sql connection string and where i have to store dat connection string. i have googled around but nothing useful found. where the connection string will be stored and if this form is not on the same computer (where the sql server installed) then wat will happen? the connection string will be changed?sql server is installed at windows server. im trying to make an application which runs on the same network (local i.e. LAN not on web server).
I was thinking I could make a console application that would have a FileSystemWatcher - watching for a .BAT file being created in a folder - and when it sees that file it does a PROCESS.START on it. But I'm seeing that a console app doesn't continue running.
Imports System.IO Module awcWatcher Sub Main() Dim fsw As New FileSystemWatcher("D:ACS DesktopAWCeportingstaging") fsw.NotifyFilter = NotifyFilters.FileName Or NotifyFilters.LastWrite [Code] ..... How would I go about making this wait and then wait again and again and again?
I am trying to stop the following piece of code from taking up too much processing power of the PC by using threads. But I keep getting errors when I use threads:
im trying to make a little application that will read an fps server chat log.the chat logs are plain text files that come in the format :
Billy says: yada yada yada Bob says: mooo
on certain key phrases (which will be user defined) it will reply (also user defined) now my problems. (there are many). most of which stem from not actually knowing any syntax for this language.firstly im suffering something of a huge brain fart with trying to read only the last line. i have it currently reading though the whole file and counting line numbers but then i just hit a wall . what do i do with the line number? i cant find a simple way to stop and come then have it check again after a couple of seconds for a new line? allegedly filestream can seek the end of the file however all my attempts to do anything with filestream have met with absolutle failure.
this is what i currently have for this, and it works to some degree
FileReader = New IO.StreamReader(OpenFileDialog1.FileName) Do While FileReader.Peek <> -1 txtln = FileReader.ReadLine()
[code]....
i have the remnants of both the options ive considered in there, and its almost doing what i need it to . i just have no idea what to put into the last section to make it wait for another line to be added to the text file, or use the linenumber to make it check back from there for more lines. i cant seem to find a wait/sleep/pause so i just dont know.
my other problem is one of file access. i am aware of some properties of filestream that allow for a shared read/write access for other programs . however as i stated before . i have had no success even getting this simple peice of code to work with filestream.
Okay so i made a small code that my application can check for updates onstart time. The problem is that it freeze up the application. How can i make it work faster.
