My IT Project is to make CV MAKER that will create CV and will export it to PDF file, could some of you tell me how can i do it using no third party SDK, and how to manage text within PDF file i mean how to do layout, tables, different fonts, etc etc.

i want to know how to draw cell or grid in picturebox for icon. im creating a small program that i want to include icon editor, i know how to use bitmap or GDI+ to make icon, but i want to include small icon editor like the one with VS IDE. i want to know if the 32 X 32 icon pixels was generated by 32 rows of pictureboxes and 32 columns of pictureboxes. In a real icon editor you can use different color for each pixel.

View 7 Repliesany1 has any ideas on how to code a patch maker, (binary differential update) so when i run my patch maker, it output a program (*.exe) that will update files on another machine or local machine, assuming that old files to be updated to a new file having the same data in result;
and also the output patcher should be smaller in size (compressed)currently wad i could think of is a very very simple one but totally useless and not efficient and result large file size patch
1. where mine is read both file data
2. is both byte the same ?

the marker value is how many byte have been advanced so with resulting patcher will read those marker values to advance to the file address (which is the position number) and update accordingly to its byte value outputfile1 is marker values, outputfile2 is byte values corresponding to outputfile1 marker value to advance to the byte position

I have been able to export data from a query to the xlsx file..howerver those fields which are currency in my sql server 2005 table are currency are showing up in the spreadsheet as text. The column mappings are correct when I look at it in connection manager.
Also Is there also a way to create a new worksheet each time the export is run or does the file have to be already named?
I am developing an application using VS 2008/MySql and I am trying to export the crystal report on runtime using my own code. I get an error saying:

I have had no experience with the VB .Net framework. I'm quite comfortable with VB. I wish to create a DLL out of some code which performs some calculations. Is it possible to create DLLs which can export functions using VB .Net? (I read somewhere that we can only create 'ActiveX' DLLs and cannot export functions out of it)
This link [URL] does give a method of creating DLLs by replacing the Linker of VB with a new Linker which can add the '/DEF' field while creating the DLL. Is this doable for VB .Net as well?
Also, the DLLs I want o create will be used by VBA codes in Excel Workbooks. Another way I think it could be done is to put the code in a Module inside a workbook and use it as an add-in. I need to create approx. 150 such DLLs, so I'll have to create 150 separate Add-ins. (Thoguh each add-in will only be loaded when it's required.)

View 2 RepliesIm learning Visual Basic 2010 on my programming class and we reached the part of file handling. Here i tried to make a simple program that can create a text file with the content of what i type on the textbox, basically i create the file if it doesn't exist, and if it already exists i append the content to it. Once the file is saved i can read it using the "Open" button. Unfortunataly, whenever i try to create the file, the compiler gives me an error saying that it cannot modify a closed file, although i've followed up the execution instruction by instruction and i can't find the error.

I am attempting to have my program select a file, create DataTables and then perform some other functions. I want to be able to open another file and re-do the same steps.The problem I am having is that I add columns to my Datatables and when I try and to open another file while one is already open I get a message that a column of xyz is already added how do I properly "clear my datatable" or perhaps that isnt even the correct approach? View 4 RepliesI like to compress the xmldata before the data is provided to the client as an excel file. I am trying to compress and deliver it as a .zip file. its not working Here's my code below. I tried compressing it, converting it to bytes etc etc. The issue with below code is, the XSL transformation is not happening properly and the output excel file is raw xml with some .net exception at the end. (that's what I see on the .xls file that's downloaded at the end) Before I started working on compression my below code was working fine that gives properly formatted excel file from the xml input. the excel file is so nice you can't even tell it was from XML.

View 2 RepliesI have a variable (double) that is constantly update in real time with data from an analog input. I would like to write this data as it comes in to a txt file. When I stop my acquisition of data from my analog input, I should have a txt file with all that data stored on my computer wherever I want it. The way I'd like that txt file to be laid out is like so:
Test Title: "This info comes from a string variable"
Operator Name: "This info comes from another string variable"
Test Date: "This info comes from yet another string variable"

And so forth. As you can see I would also like to write the time for each data. This depends on my Timer interval which the user can set. The default is 50ms. So by default, y1 y2 y3 would be 0, 50, 100. How would I generate such a text file?
PS: I have five variables (X, Y, strTitle, strName, strDate)
Is there a way to return only a set number of decimal places when using the mod function? My 'ones' equation seems to be rounding up? (I'm assuming I have the wrong idea about '\')

Is this program very inefficient? Based on the past programs I have written for this class, I would say I've probably done it again. I don't think I have written a single "efficient" program yet. =/
I understand how a usual map maker/editor works. I have one that I have been tweaking with on and off for the past 2 years. It gets xPosition, yPosition, and which tile to place. However, I have been running over the problem I had last time I left it...how to apply a zPosition (to determine which layer a specific tile is on). From what I know the typical map consists of a 2D array of tiles, but not only loading the first array would you load multiple arrays for each layer needed for a particular map?
I have yet to find something that explains how a multi-dimensional/layered map array is supposed to work, or how to load multiple layers at once with transparency to allow for the bottom layers to come through. I don't need any code here, just an opinion if I am thinking about this the right way, and what terms I can look up to find out more.

Visual Studio has a utility to make installers for my programs. People will be able to install and run my applications on their own PC's. It is, however, rather limited. For a start, people can't choose where to install. The installer chooses for them. I can't even find where it puts the application.
I've heard there are many 3rd party installer makers. Recommendations, please. What is your favourite, for VB applications? It should be fairly simple to use. I downloaded one, it has a scripting language that looks complex. It might take a while to learn it.It should also be free, or fairly cheap. At least have a free trial period.

View 12 RepliesI have a course work for which I have to make a (as advanced as possible) WYSIWYG web page editor in VB.NET (2010). It should have a visual editor with drag-drop support for several elements such as anchors, images, tables etc, and it should generate HTML based on that structure.
I don't know where to begin though. I have some experience with vb.net, I made a tabbed notepad vaguely following a tutorial, but I don't know how to make this drag-drop thingy in a richtextbox. I've searched for a tutorial, but most of them are just too simple, a text editor with browser control rendering the HTML.
