View 2 RepliesBasically what i need is for something to look at the items in a list box then compare it to the contents that is in the database. The issue is that the listbox can have more than one of the same item. For instance, LstBox_Order.items(0) could be the same at any position in the listbox. This code works, but it is slow if there is like 10 or more items added.

I am trying to make a timer, inside of a class, tick, by calling it from a backgroundworker. It never ticks (the Tick event is never raised), but the Timer shows as Enabled (with Interval set to 1).
Here is the simplified

If I move the code inside the Thread1_DoWork procedure into the Button1_Click procedure, the code works fine (by bypassing the backgroundworker). But, when it is called inside of the backgroundworker, it doesn't work at all.
How do I make a loop from 1 to 100 and make it everytime it loops display incrementing numbers to the screen?
View 1 RepliesToday I investigated a logical bug in our software and figured out that this is related to the way VB.NET thread variables inside a loop.Let's say I have the following code:
Dim numbers As New List(Of Integer) From {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
For Each number As Integer In numbers
Dim isEven As Boolean
[code]....
The problem is that isEven is declared but not assigned.In this specific case, it would be correct to write dim isEven as Boolean = false but I haven't done this.In VB.NET, a variable that is declared inside a for loop keeps its value for the next itaration. This is by design: [URL]but this is also dangerous pitfall for programmers.
However, until now, I haven't been aware of this problem/behaviour. Until now.Most of our code base is C# anyway, which doesn't allow the use of an uninitialized variable, so there is no problem. But we have some legacy code that is written in VB.NET that we have to support. So the best thing would be to generate a warning or even an error in this specific case.But even with Option Explicit / Option Strict this does not generate a warning / an error.Is there a way make this a compile time error or maybe a way to check this with FxCop?
I'm building a listview search feature in my app. (See the code below). It works really well, except if you search "T" then the code removes all items, if you search "t" then it removes every item except for those starting with "t". Is there any way to make a 'like' statement, or use some kind of wildcard to make the statement not case sensitive?
For Each itm As ListViewItem In ListView2.Items
If itm.Text Like TextBox1.Text & "*" Or itm.SubItems.Item(1).Text Like TextBox1.Text & "*" Then

I've got a datetimepicker control on a vb .net 2008 form. I have set it to show a custom format of "dd/MM/yyyy". The problem is this: - when i click on the arrow button, a small calendar is shown in which i should be able to select a date. The only way i can do that is by using the arrow keys and pressing Enter. Clicking on any date value inside this calendar doesn't do anything.How can i make the value of the datetimepicker change to what i have clicked inside the dropdown calendar?
View 11 RepliesI have made a For next loop with an array. I want all my picture boxes to follow each other within the loop. I have currently been using old code, but not in a loop or array format. The old code works. The array code only makes the 2nd picture box follow the FIRST one. It doesn't loop the rest. I have checked the code and cannot determine any mistakes, else I'm missing out on something I haven't been taught.[code]...

I have a testing program that I am working on and I have a Timed and a Non-Timed testing environment. The user can choose which environment he is practicing in.Everything works fine with those environments, I am just trying to figure out how to display a Countdown timer in the corner so that the user know how much time he has left before the question times out and advances to the next question.In the timed Environment, the user choose the amount of time between questions, the number of questions and then Click begin to start the Testing Environment. The timer I am using for the Timed environment begins on Page
View 6 RepliesA few years ago I have been busy creating this application but it didn't succeed, now Im coming back to it and similar problems occur. Basically I use SetPixel on a given window to draw a line, work fine, but the line goes away as the window redraws itself.The problem: I have been putting timers and threads on it to make sure the line is being drawn. Is there any way to make a loop to make a certain thing happen about 10-30 times without taking in too much memory/CPU?
View 7 RepliesI've been trying to make basically a simple animation player inside a class so that I can use it in a game I have to make for a school IPT project. When I first tested out some code I found, it was not in "class form", ie there were just loose variables as I was only animating a single .gif file. The code worked perfectly, and the animation was drawn frame by frame by the e.Graphics.DrawImage function.
Now that I have moved the code into a class (So I can run more than one animation at a time, though Im still trying to get only one to work), The e.Graphics.DrawImage function didnt work. It would draw the first image, but then (even though the function is called as shown by stepping through the lines of code), the picture doesn't update. I know the frame has changed as Ive kept track of the current frame in the debug window, but it still wont work.
I have had troubles like this with other GDI functions, where if the variable to draw is inside a class (etc) it simply wont work, it will only work if it is a loosely floating variable. (i.e. Sprite.Image doesnt work, If I just make an image it does). With the code below, I have tried in the e.Graphics.DrawImage function submitting me.wth.animatedImage and wth.animatedImage
Public Class Form1
Dim wth As New vsprite
Public Class vsprite
Public animatedImage As New Bitmap("C:Documents and SettingsSamDesktopexplosion.gif")
Public currentlyAnimating As Boolean = False

I wanted to know how to make a loop of generating codes, that I create (from the push of button1) Like this:
Dim MsgBox As String
MsgBox = ("My code here, not a random one")
TextBox1.Text = MsgBox
I want the textbox's code to change into another code, that i want, from the push of button1?
Out of curiosity, is there a way i can make a program stop or pause for a period of time (which i would choose) before continuing the code WITHOUT a timer.I think I've seen this done before, but I'm not positive.Also note that I'm talking about a forms application (not a console app if that would be any different.)

I'm redoing a program I made up a while back and need some help changing a loop. The original program had all the text boxes on same form, the redesigned program still has them all on the same form but I have them spread across multiple tabs and the background of the form.
The code below loops through each possible text box and if it exists sets the value in an array. This only works for text boxes not on tabs. I found I could change the Me.Controls to TabPage1.Controls and that would get the text boxes on tabpage1. I would like to have a single loop that can find them on any tab and off the tabs, so I don't need three separate loops.
For num = 1 To 61
For Each controlctl In Me.Controls
If controlctl.Name = "TextBox" & CStr(num) Then

The project is "kWh counter", that is, a simple program that calculates the power usage.The incoming numbers are the Power of the appliance (lightbulb) and the voltage (230/120).The formula is W=P*t that is multiplication of the power and the time it is used.I thought to connect it with a timer and the passing secconds multyply with the power, and, write the ussage on a label.This would be something like a simple digital power counter.Note that the voltage is not necesary.I am from europe where the standards are 230V.
