VS 2008 : Print Messages To Console ("cmd") Window?
Nov 3, 2009
I'm developing a Win Form application that can be run from the command-line interface. I'm looking for a way to print messages to console ("cmd") window.I've tried to use "console.writeline" but nothing was displayed. What am I miss? Should I redirect the stdout to the cmd window? If so - how?
Is it possible to send window messages from one computer to another through Dot Net 2008.suppose i have 2 computers on a domain, now i want to send message from one computer to another.
I want to open a command window on a remote machine. I'm using a tool called RCTRLX to launch remote process (very similar to PSEXEC) but I can't get it to display the actual window. The process is always launched hidden. What do I need to do to have actually display the console window?
I have both the VB and C# versions of Visual Studio 2008 Express. When I run a console application in either version, instead of the console opening in an old DOS style command window like it does in VS 2005, it actually blacks out both monitors attached to my computer and treats the entire screen real estate as the console.Anyone know how to get the app to run in a small command-type window when I run it? It's like the console is running Full Screen. If I set a break point, switch from the IDE t the console and then hit Alt+Enter it switches to the small window that I want, but I still can't figure out how to make the app start with the console that way.I could post a screenshot but it would look like a big black square...no window, no frame, just the inky blackness of frustration.
I have a .Net Console application which displays thousands of lines on the console each minute. I want to convert it to a Windows Service, however I still need a way of viewing these messages. There are far too many messages to write them to the event log or even a standard log file. I was wondering if there were a way to write a systray app that could simply intercept these messages from the service and display them in a console window. I have no need to save older messages, I only need to see current activity.
I have a server program. It logs all of the lines on the console textbox in their proper folder, named by their type: Logs\Year\Month\Day\Errors.txt There are about 7 types that it logs. All of these show up in the console window. However, I have check boxes that I want to toggle the types that show up in the console window on and off. For example if I want to hide the Error and System types, I want the rest of the types to show. I know I can do this simply, but if I re-check the boxes to show the System types as well with the others, I want it to show the logs in their proper place in the console window, and that I cannot figure out how to do.I am stuck on this problem and cannot figure it out. I know it involves much more than an If statement to display the types correctly in the right place on the console. Please help me out with some idea of what I need to do.
I have a console application where I successfully have added custom menu item in the application's system menu using the Windows API calls. How do I hook into the events to capture the event raised when the user clicks on one of these menus? All my Google results talks about overriding the WndProc method, but this doesn't exist in a console application.
When i ran some applications, more ofter than not there will be some messages showing in the immediate window, such as:
A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in
trying to print a Form that I created using a VB.Net console application. My console application creates an instance of a Windows Form and fills it with data. I then created an instance of the Print Form class from the Microsoft Power Pack and am trying to get the form I filled with data to print but no matter what I've tried it just prints the command console window.
Dim firstPage As New FrontPage 'Windows Form Dim pf As New PrintForm 'Print Form Power Pack firstPage.Visible = True
I run my projects , automatically the output window pops up and tells me some extra info I ont need to see (normally...)==================------ Build started: Project: cm, Configuration: Debug Any CPU ------
It's been a while since I have posted. Good to be back. I am doing some scripting work using Visual Studio 2005 Tools for application. I am having an issue outputting to the debug window. My line of System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("Test") I have the output window open when I start debugging and am using the debugger. What happens is the debug window seems to go away when I allow the line to execute. After the line executes if I go back to the output window nothing is there. The message does not go to the Immediate window either.
I am using Visual Studio 2010 Professional in trial mode... and suddenly the Output window won't show my Debug.Write() stuff. It had been showing it for the past month.I have been using the 2010 version for 30 days (after upgrading from Visual Studio 2003) in trial mode. I just renewed the trial for the extra 60 days, and the "About Visual Studio" window says I still have 59 days left.
I have verified that the application is running properly, without errors. When I purposely generate an error, the Output Window properly shows the error and the stack trace I've already checked my Build>Configuration... it's in "Debug" mode, not "Release". The Debug.Write() text is not going to the Immediate window, either. One other point, I tried running the same application in the Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition, and it complained that it could not debug the specified code, though it did properly build it so that it would run in the build. Could Visual Studio 2010 Express have modified something in my project files to disable the debugging output?
Is there any simple way to print with vb.net? Specifically, with the console. It seems that stuff that works with forms applications dont work with the console.
In my console app, I'm currently printing to a log file with File.AppendAllText. How would you print to the screen instead. Also, is there an echo command so that I could echo to the screen everything the user types?
Option Explicit On Imports System.IO Module Module1[code].....
Basically on my case 3 I want it to save everything that's been on the console window. It should save it to here: Dim fileToSave As String = "AllDataOnConsoleWindow.txt"
Question: I have a console program that shouldn't be seen.(It resets IIS and deletes temp files.)Right now I can manage to hide the window right after start like this:

I have a VB .NET 2003 application that runs on the console. When the application runs, the console window pops up which isn't always necessary. Does anyone know of a way to prevent that console window from popping up, but still continue to run? I was thinking of something along these lines:
I have a console application that lists all files in a folder and then deletes them![code]This code lists the hole path to the file, but i only want that the filenames are shown (not the path)! And i also want the console window to close after 5 seconds. How do i specify that.. Haven't found any answers anywhere!
I am writing a console program in vb.net 2010 .net 4.0. Through out the program there are many lines of info. presented to the user in the console window. I was wondering if there is a way to copy all those lines from the code, cause I want to save the text as a log to the operations carried out.
If there's a way to hide the psexec console window? Even if in the startinfo of the process I set .StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True the console window is still showing.
How can I increment numbers in a console window? I have code that is transferring a file from one place to another which is all working great. The console window output is a Console.Writeline("myapp.exe is working, please wait...") and Console.Write(percentComplete & "%"). I would like to increment the percentComplete. Is it possible to do that without clearing the consol window and writing these two lines again?
I am making a console application that basically just takes in rainfall over the year, then exports the data into an Excel template and saves it. I've accomplished all this but cannot for the life of me get the window to minimize. I can change the size but everything I've tride doesn't work.
I am starting a Console (3rd party application) with a New Process in vb.net. I simply want to size the window when it loads. All the APIs have not worked, SetWindowPos, MoveWindow, etc... need to work in all versions of Windows. Anybody have solid code that does this?
