VS 2008 Read From Registry Key Multi-string Value?
Jan 1, 2012
I have made this code and it does work with a normal string key, but with a multi-string value(REG_MULTI_SZ) key it does not.[code]The error is this : Conversion from type 'String()' to type 'String' is not valid. So how do i read from a multi-tring value registry key and list is all into the listbox ?
I want to read a string from a registry key, if its 0 do one thing, and if its 1, do something else.
This code (if it works..) would at the first time create a sub key, and assign it to 1, but if its not existing, it would then show a few messageboxe's - But it doesnt work, even if I set it to 1 or 0, it won't work, it always displays the messages.
If My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_CURRENT_USERA Sim Game StudiosA Sim Game - Business", "FirstRun", "1") Then MessageBox.Show("Your name is Jay J, you are 23 years old")
I have several programs that must write to HKLM in XP and Windows 7/64 Pro.The programs work in VB6 but not in VB.Net 2008 on target machines. It does works on our development machine. Same exact windows. User is an Administrator.NOT using Run as.
Both programs are using the same function Declare Function RegCreateKey Lib "advapi32.dll" Alias "RegCreateKeyA" _ (ByVal lngRootKey As Long, ByVal lpSubKey As String, phkResult As Long)

[code]I just cannot figure out why VB6 works but .net doesn't and fails only on the target machine not the development machine.
i want to read a character 1 by 1 from a string and a .txt, i know all about stream reader so for the .txt would it be somthing like:textbox1.text = tr.readCharacter.i would prefer to be able to read from a textbox or String array though.
Ok lets say you have a listview well call it "lv". There are items A, B, C and D. If i select A, C and D (holding ctrl) and hit a button it enters A, C, and D in a text box like below
"A(space)C(space)D(space)" note: (space) is a space
how would i go about doing this? Below is the button that you would hit to send the selected items text into the textbox. (doesnt work)ERROR i keep getting: InvalidArgument=Value of '3' is not valid for 'index'. Parameter name: index
I have the following code to retrieve a string value from the registry.
Dim retval As String = String.Empty Try objManagementBaseObject = objManagementClass.GetMethodParameters("GetStringValue")
[Code]...
The problem is that if sValue doesn't exist, it generates a ManagementException. I want those errors ignored because I don't care if the value doesn't exist, it's entirely possible and acceptable. How can I "accept" those errors but display all others?
I'm adding multi-threading facilities for the first time. I have a function that is wrapped to be run in a separated thread. This function retrieves data (text) from a combobox and it works for sure without multi-threading.
When I call it as multi-threaded, I get the following error when I try to retrieve the data from the cmobobox: Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'cmb1stBL' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
It looks like a restriction of thread-safety... I assume that the child thread cannot read from his parent, to make sure that he doesn't change his parent data. So how can I read the data from the combobox? Should I read the comoboxbox data before calling the child thread?
Does Anyone know How to read multi-line strings? I am using XmlWriter to write a Multi-Line Textbox to an Xml Document. The Trouble Is I can't figure out how to get the reader to read that multi-line element. I know the writer is writing it in multi-line, but the read just squashes the lines together. Does anyone know how to read that multi-line element properly?
for example, i would like to find the key word "1234567" from the folder which is consist of many of the text files, what are the command i would need to apply into my script ?The folder consists of few files namely as example:
I have created a string that holds the xml information that I need. I want to go through the xml in that string to go through each of the elements. I know how to do this if it is in a file like (books.xml) but how can you read it from a string?
I am having a hard time trying to read a registry key, I have tried various ways that I have found on the internet but with no successfully. I have attached a screen shot of the Path key that I am trying to get from the registry.

I'm working on a way to authenticate users in my app, and what I've come up with is the following method. To write to a database, the user must have an account in SQL server 2008. However, I still want people to be able to view the application if they don't have access, but only read, they can't sync any changes. This is working well, as I have a string array hard coded containing approved users:
Dim Users() As String = {"BWANG", "EDASALLA", "ERICHARDSON", "HALONZO", "JCHAPMAN", "SKIM", "PMACK"}
The one problem with hardcoding is that if I need to ever add a user later on, I'd have to release an update to the program. (which isn't hard as I already have updating built into the app, and users can still download updates even if they can't sync.)
What I'd like to do, is use an encrypted .dat file that contains the user names, and store that with the application, so that i could always be added to, and only one file would need to be downloaded.
I have code in place to encrpt and decrypt the .dat file (called users.dat) and this code works for single text entries in the file. I need to figure out how to load a list however into the array in place.
Imports System Imports System.IO Dim userfile as String = "C:users.dat" Dim Users() As String = Data.Decrypt(File.ReadAllLines(path))
Basically each line in the file will have an encrypted user name, and i want it to decrypt each line and store it back into that authorized user list.
I have a problem to make the comparison from char to string array using Naive Algorithm in vb.net.[code]The problem is the system cannot compare the input from s1 to compare with s2.
I'm having troubles reading the values from a registy key, basically I already have my code working which reads back data from a registry key with the name "Printer" however I also have another key called "Printer" and when I attempt to read that the "+" get ignored and it reads back "data" which is in the same location. Is there a simple way of reading it back which won't mean large changes to code that is already working as I need it to?
[code]After spending hours of research.I finally figured out the vb.net version on how to read a 64 bit registry with a 32 bit .net application. The importance of this is when you try to write to one part of the registry, it gets redirected somewhere else in the registry, which is super annoying.[code]
I'm reading the registry values under the uninstall registry keys. I use string variables to store the program name and program version. This usually works fine but for example Firefox 10.0 appears to be less the Firefox 9 since the version is a string value. V is the string variable that stores the DisplayVersion found in the registry is there a way to read registry valuables to integer?[code]..
i want to read all the value names from registry.. Example:
Dim readValue As String readValue = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun", "Path", Nothing)
So this will write the "Data" (The exe location) from the Path! But now i want to read all the Values from Run, and write them, not just one, the Path! I want to see all of them from Run, not only the Path! I also repalce "Path" with Nothing, or "", but dosn't work ...
