VB 2008 & The Access Auto-number Function?

Feb 22, 2009

I created a access table with three fields, CustomerID, FirstName, LastNameI set the CustomerID field to the primary key and the type of AutonumberIn my VB app I dragged the three fields over to my form.I clicked on the plus sign at the top and it displayed -1 in the customer field, I entered a First Name and a Last Name and press the save button. I repeated the process 2 more times and the CustomerID field went from -2 to -3.I looked at my table in acces and all three records showed 1, 2 & 3 as it should. When I exited the form and then open the form again it shows record numbers 1, 2 & 3 as it should.How come it takes exiting the form and then back in to see the correct CustomerID's ?

Unsigned Long Random Number?

Jul 19, 2011

I'm trying to generate random dates in between two dates that are selected with a date and time selection control.Ideally, I would like to get the 'ticks' of each date, generate a random number between those, and then convert that back into a date.However I'm getting arithmetic overflow errors when I try to generate a random number from the between the ticks. I've tried many approaches - directly seeding with both the low and high date ticks, as well as subtracting.

Private Function randomDate() As ULong
Dim rand As New Random(Date.Now.Ticks Mod Integer.MaxValue)
Dim holder As ULong = DateTimePicker2.Value.Ticks - DateTimePicker1.Value.Ticks

User Enters A Password - Must Be At Least 3 Characters Long - At Least 1 Number And 1 Alphabet Character

Mar 28, 2012

My homework assignment is to create a project where a user enters a password that must be at least 3 characters long with at least 1 number and 1 alphabet character. After that the password has to be encrypted so that vowels become X, numbers Z, and it reverses. For example, a password of CS2301 would be ZZZZSC. There's supposed to be Loops to extract 1 number/letter at a time and search for them in the string to validate, and I don't know what to do. The form itself has a Text Box to enter a password and a label to display the new one, and a Go button.

This is what my code looks like so far.

Option Explicit On

VS2010 Relating 3 Tables On One Form?

Dec 4, 2010

I am building a library database for a local charity using Visual Basic 2010 and I need to get the lending structure working properly, to that end I have created a dummy project to test my code.

This what I have done so far

I have started a WindowsFormApplication and to that I have added a ServiceBasedDatabase.

NB. For speed I have abbreviated the fields... A=Author, U=User, LN=LastName, FN=FirstName

In Database1.mdf, I have added 3 Tables with the following columns, and also added some dummy records to test it.

Code:
Table 1
T1ID int Nulls disallowed Primary Key Identity Specification On
ALN varchar(50) Nulls allowed
AFN varchar(50) Nulls allowed

[Code].....

How do I add a second table search so I can browse both Table 1 & 2 simultaneously?

Posts Over Time Relating To Importing And Exporting CSV?

Aug 15, 2011

I've seen a lot of posts over time relating to importing and exporting CSV. Most of the answers involve using TextReader.readline and String.split, which will not work with any but the simplest data. When you are writing for users who have the expectation that your application will work with anything they export from Excel, you will have to cover all the CSV bases.

I hope that this post will give you a clear idea of what you're involving yourself in when you decide you need to read a CSV file. The characteristics of CSV data are:The comma character is used to separate the fields. (This is obvious, but I thought I'd start with a couple of obvious points to warm up) The last field on the line is ended by the end-of-line character or the physical end of the file.Any field that contains commas, double-quotes or control characters will be surrounded by double-quote marks. Any double-quote marks within the field will be "escaped" with an extra double-quote character. For instance, the value Paul "Chuck" Norris would be converted to "Paul ""Chuck"" Norris".After the opening double-quote ANY character is valid. Including line breaks. This is why you can't use readline.I have a parser class that works nicely and I'll post that on this thread in a little while, along with some notes on using it.

Add An Auto-number To The Table?

Apr 3, 2009

i'm importing a text file into a access table like this:

vb.net
sql.CommandText = "SELECT * INTO [tblMailList] FROM [Text;DATABASE=" & frmMain.FolderName & ";HDR=NO].[" & frmMain.TextBoxFileName.Text & "]"
sql.ExecuteNonQuery()

my question is what is the best way to add an autonumber to the table? i currently do it like this:

vb.net

sql.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE [tblMailList] ADD COLUMN [ID] AUTOINCREMENT;"
sql.ExecuteNonQuery()

but when the file is too large i get this error: "File sharing lock count exceeded. Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry."

and yes, i have tried to change the registry entry and it didn't work:

vb.net
My.Computer.Registry.SetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftJet4.0EnginesJet 4.0", "MaxLocksPerFile", "9000000")

Creating The Table Relationships?

I am working on a VB.net (VS-2010, Win XP Pro 2 SP3), Employee Management Project. I need to keep track of Employee Leave Attendance and also each Equipment assigned to an Employee. How can I achieve this using SQLlite.

It will be very useful if you could provide me with examples as I am completely new to the field of SQL and VB.net I think this can be done with two tables where one has the primary key while the other has a foreign key, but I am not sure. Also how many tables will I need for storing data in Leave and Equipment Form.

VS 2010 Using DataNavigator And One-to-many Relationships

Apr 14, 2011

I'm using a Data navigator to navigate (duh) through some records that my BLL fetches from the DAL. I use DataTables to fetch the recrods. Some of such records have one to many relationships. Lets say for example a person has may telephone numbers and my navigator goes through all the persons whose name are Joe. So I manage to show all the Joes through my navigator in the controls but I want to be able to show all their telephone numbers also. Persons is one Table, TelephoneNumbers is another. Each Telephone number has the person it belongs to. I access them through a DataSet and my BLL controllers return DataTables in their search methods, as said.

Auto-assign Number To SQL Field?

Jan 12, 2010

Probably a simple question for most of you. I'm putting members of a group into a SQL Database so we can better manage attendance and 'points' that they earn for doing work. I've written the program in VB and have the SQL server running fine. However, I have created a separate table to handle the points and have marked the relationship between the table - the column is named 'PointID', and should be unique for each person. When I add a new user to the database, I want it to automatically assign a value to that without me having to do anything extra beyond pressing save. From this PointID, it should identify the user and it will bring up the person's points.
