View 4 RepliesI have an ASP.NET application. It resides within another ASP.NET application. I put my DLL in the other apps bin folder and have a subdirectory with my aspx files. I can't edit the main app's Web.config.
So where can I store configuration settings? For example, this is an app that will get deployed to various clients. I want to store the client name used for display in the headers and such. And the location of a logo file.
I planing to develop an application which can connect any remote server and pick the configuration information from server and show it in my desktop.
View 4 RepliesI am trying to find .NET Framework Configuration Tool which used to be in the control panel for older versions such as .Net Framework 2.0. I just noticed that it is not there anymore, and mscorcfg.msc is also missing from the machine.
View 3 RepliesI've got a bunch of DLL projects that I'm pulling into my application, each contains their own Settings.settings/app.config. When I compile the app and run for debugging, everything works just fine, but come deployment time I can't get my DLLs to read their own settings files.I've been doing some reading and it has become apparent that there's a couple of methods to getting each dll to read its own configuration - one is to dedicate a .dll.config to the library and the other is to embed the dll's configuration in the process.exe.config.I'm having significant issues trying to implement either and I wondered if anyone has any good docs on this - there appears to be a shortage on the Net.
I'd like a separate .dll.config for each of the libraries if possible, but in a pinch, getting each of my libraries to read their own section of the process.exe.config will he right direction because I'm so close to rolling this application out but this stumbling block is causing me a significant headache.Edit: When I merge the configuration files, I start getting TypeInitializer exceptions when I initialize objects withing my libraries. This is likely just me being retarded, but does someone have a working example of a merged config file and some basic demonstrative code for reading it from multiple assemblies?
I have seen a similar post under C++ but after reading that post and many others I have been unable to find a solution for VB VS2008.I have just ported one solution withseven projects from VS2005to VS2008. All seemed fine at compile time but when I attempted to step into the code in the debugger I received the following error:

Receive 'ConfigurationManager' is not a member of 'Configuration' in VS2008.I read all of the topics in the forum about this error Tried adding areference to System.Configuration.dll to the project and an "Imports System.Configuration" to the vb file.Still get an error

View 14 RepliesOn the compile tab of the project properties: If you look at the configuration dropdown it typically shows debug/release/active/all. I attempted to add another option at one point in the build->configuration manager window, but decided that I didn't want to keep it. I removed it there, but it keeps showing up in the dropdown on the properties, as well as generates a folder by that name.
Does anyone know how to remove this? I can't find any "delete" or otherwise options.
Does anyone have or has anyone come across an in depth guide to the .net app.config? I'm having significant issues trying to find a definitive guide to this area of .net.I can already handle custom configuration sections, from basic key/value pair settings right through to complete custom configuration handlers which I struggled to find information on, but I cannot find any documentation regarding basic native .NET functionality of the configuration file...for instance, with regards to BCL configuration. I've gone through the machine.config.comments and the config.xsd files and it has provided a little insight but not enough to fully grasp the full potential of the config file. I've also trawled through everything I can find on Safari and only managed to come up with a couple of useful tidbits that I wasn't previously aware of but it seems this area of .NET is extremely poorly documented and unless you have a very specific purpose in mind, it's useless trying to find information on it.
View 1 RepliesNew to VB... I am trying to access .SYS (system files) located in the following folder path (example) My Database NameVIEWSSYSTEM VIEWS in the Object Explorer of my SQL Database. In walking through the Data Source Configuration Wizard for data connectivity I select DATABASEVIEWS and the SYSTEM VIEWS sub-folder is not available for selection. In general: What is the best method to access System Files using VB Data Source?
View 4 RepliesIs anyone aware of a way that I can set application (or user) level settings in a .Net application that are conditional on the applications current development mode? IE: Debug/Release To be more specific, I have a url reference to my webservices held in my application settings. During release mode I would like those settings to point to [URL] during debug mode I would love those settings to be [URL]

View 3 RepliesFilePath for the Current Application's Default Configuration .I am writing several DLL's that each have their on configuration file. I am trying to set the Application Default Configuration to be the DLL's Default Configuration - not the EXE's Default Configuration. How can I determine the pathfile for the current Application Default Configuration??I have tried using FILEPATH of SYSTEM.CONFIGURATION.CONFIGURATION but can not get the syntax correct.
View 1 RepliesI have recently downloaded and installed VS2010 evaluation copy. I loaded a VS2002 programme I have been working on and until today it compiled and ran fine. Now I get this error. "Error while trying to run project: Unable to start programme "c:CreateF1ScreensinCreateF1Screens.exe.
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Review etc etc"
So i'm trying to create a save configuration file and I found the Application Configuration file which seems like it'll do what I want it to do what
View 3 RepliesI am building a library database for a local charity using Visual Basic 2010 and I need to get the lending structure working properly, to that end I have created a dummy project to test my code.
This what I have done so far
I have started a WindowsFormApplication and to that I have added a ServiceBasedDatabase.
NB. For speed I have abbreviated the fields... A=Author, U=User, LN=LastName, FN=FirstName
In Database1.mdf, I have added 3 Tables with the following columns, and also added some dummy records to test it.
Code:
Table 1
T1ID int Nulls disallowed Primary Key Identity Specification On
ALN varchar(50) Nulls allowed
AFN varchar(50) Nulls allowed
[Code].....
How do I add a second table search so I can browse both Table 1 & 2 simultaneously?
i am using databse connection model but can't get actual result because of this error , i don't know why this occurring ,i have use the windows application with app.config file, i paste xml code.
<?
xmlversion="1.0"encoding="utf-8"?>

I've seen a lot of posts over time relating to importing and exporting CSV. Most of the answers involve using TextReader.readline and String.split, which will not work with any but the simplest data. When you are writing for users who have the expectation that your application will work with anything they export from Excel, you will have to cover all the CSV bases.
I hope that this post will give you a clear idea of what you're involving yourself in when you decide you need to read a CSV file. The characteristics of CSV data are:The comma character is used to separate the fields. (This is obvious, but I thought I'd start with a couple of obvious points to warm up) The last field on the line is ended by the end-of-line character or the physical end of the file.Any field that contains commas, double-quotes or control characters will be surrounded by double-quote marks. Any double-quote marks within the field will be "escaped" with an extra double-quote character. For instance, the value Paul "Chuck" Norris would be converted to "Paul ""Chuck"" Norris".After the opening double-quote ANY character is valid. Including line breaks. This is why you can't use readline.I have a parser class that works nicely and I'll post that on this thread in a little while, along with some notes on using it.
I have an application that I'm writing that needs to allow the user to be able to create templates and save them for how the applicaton will work. For instance, lets say I am provisioining mobile devices, and my application allows the user to create a template to only install "application1" on the device, with "application1" settings for "devicetype1". But then if the user has "devicetype2", he or she can select the template that they created to install the software for that kind of device. I've looked around and all I find is the .exe.config for read only application settings, and I have found the user.config for the read/write variables. But that won't work as my application could have several templates depending on what the user chooses. I'm looking to have my app have a "create template", "edit existing template, and"use existing template" buttons, and have my config file extension like *.ipx for example.
View 1 RepliesI am in the process of developing a messaging framework for a windows application that sends messages to a java application. To be precise when the win app wants to send a message it simply drops the message in a common database table which will be picked up by the java app. The windows application is deployed across 10 application servers (10 instances) over citrix for load balancing. Each instance of the application is capable of sending a message to the java application and each of these messages should have a unique id. From my end I need to make sure every message generated has to carry a unique id so that they can be identified when necessary. All the messages can be cleared every day or two.i am not quite sure about a best method of achieving this. Initially I wanted to create a static method that serves the next available id (incrementing the last id by 1). But this approach willn't guarantee unique number as the application starts only when at least one user is logged on. For e.g .On one server the app starts when a user logs in, he then sends a message and then the application stops when that user logs off. So when a next request for the app comes to that server a new instance will be started.

View 7 RepliesI have a fair bit of experience with VB.NET and C# (In this case I chose VB.NET, blame my laziness), but I do most of my professional work using PHP. I have no experience what so ever in using any database with VB.NET let alone MySQL.Just FYI, at the moment I am only trying to Query the database to gather the information required to activate. The Activation wizard and algorithm building (which is finished anyway), and everything else will come soon. I chose the MySQL database because I have experience with it, and it seems the best option for remote usage. The whole idea already works in PHP, I'm just have major issues moving it accross into VB.NET (Using the MySQL Connector.NET);I understand the basics, and all I need to know how to do is Count Rows and gain access to the other information in a row based on provoided information (in PHP, through mysql_ result)
So, here goes nothing, this is the Query code I am using in PHP to complete the job I want to do in VB.NET. [code] As you can see, I basically need to get the PHP code into VB.NET to fit into the 'btnQueryDB.Click' Command in VB.NET. By Equivalent, the Product ID in VB.NET will come from 'txtPID' and similar, Serial Number will come from txtSNUM. Once counted to be 1, the Activation Code and Status will be fed into 2 other text boxes in the form. (acCode, and acStatus).
on my program i have an activation in it and in order to activate the program you need to enter a code that is stored in the settings. so i was looking through my computer and i found the programs config file. and so I opened it and i found all of the codes for the activation. I need to find out how to make the file so the user doesn't have access to it and then how to move it to a more hidden place in the C: drive.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to convert a C#/XNA project to a VB.Net project with access to the XNA framework. I have added all of the XNA framework as references in the VB project and imported them as well. Most of the code translation is going well but I am getting mixed up with some graphics issues and some event handling issues (neither of which do I understand in any languague). I have tried to puzzle it out but am digging myself a deeper hole with each attempt.I am ok with converting the variable declarations and the first three lines of the Game1 Sub. It is when we get to "graphics. preparedevicesettings . . . " that the trouble starts.

I imported some code I found a few months ago for a client server messaging program from vs2003 and everything appeared to be ok, apart from a couple of niggles such as the windows form designer generated code being visible on the main form code page but i could live with that. I just tried to add a splash screen but when I went to the application tab to set it up there is no enable application framework checkbox and no windows application framework groupbox. I tried running my application again and now the xp visual style has gone and it looks terrible, is there anyway to get the application framework back on again or do I have to start a new project and copy and past all my code into the new project.
View 1 RepliesI have 3 components :
1.Manager : dll containing Iterface definition and other things
2.Implementation: dll containing Implementation of the Interface
3.Executable: (maybe this one could be a external application or another dll using the libraries)
I have particular methods (iside the interface dll file) that extract information of real Implementation from AppSettings keys in order to instance it using reflection. I use the Manager inside the Excecutable, but when I try to retrieve a especific key defined in "Manager.dll.config" (appSettings), the value returned is empty because the configuration file used is "Excecutable.exe.config" I need this configuration information in Manager config file because this Manager will be used from other programs and the configuration must be centralized into that config file to replicate the possible changes to every app calling this dll.How can I to specify that the ConfigurarionManager.AppSettings must extract values from manager.dll.config file?
