I have seen a similar post under C++ but after reading that post and many others I have been unable to find a solution for VB VS2008.I have just ported one solution withseven projects from VS2005to VS2008. My intentions are to add command line switching. I am trying to see if i could run my application in varoius ways i.e.
App.exe -S - Start the application in XX Mode
app.exe -T30 - Start application with 30 second delay
and that kinda switching.

View 1 RepliesI have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

View 8 Repliesi made a program and used a program called Advanced Installer to put all the files from the build folder into one big install exe file to send to people but one they've installed it and go to open it they get an error saying: "the application has failed to initialize properly (0xc000135). Click on OK to terminate the application" What does this mean? do i need to have the NET framework on the machine its being run on?
View 6 RepliesI am installing an app I built in VB, and am getting the error "Application validation did not succeed. Unable to continue." I have successfully built and installed this app previously. What I think caused the issue is I attached the .mdf file I have referenced in my application to my SQL Server. I then detached the database in SQL Server, opened my VB app and re-built the app. When I tried to install the app, I received the error. Attached are the details of the error message.

I'm using Process.Start method to launch another application from my application. Until today, there was no problem. But I have tested my application in a different OS, Windows XP (SP3), and my application didn't work right on that. I'm also using arguments to run that application. I guess for some reason my application couldn't send arguments to other application correctly under Windows XP. Maybe it is related to my code. But you should know, it works great on Windows 7.

In our web application, we can use multiple files and what files we want to run that we give page start up options. But in windows application where is it? I am using two files in single application. I want to change default start up page.

View 14 RepliesOn the compile tab of the project properties: If you look at the configuration dropdown it typically shows debug/release/active/all. I attempted to add another option at one point in the build->configuration manager window, but decided that I didn't want to keep it. I removed it there, but it keeps showing up in the dropdown on the properties, as well as generates a folder by that name.
Does anyone know how to remove this? I can't find any "delete" or otherwise options.
Does anyone have or has anyone come across an in depth guide to the .net app.config? I'm having significant issues trying to find a definitive guide to this area of .net.I can already handle custom configuration sections, from basic key/value pair settings right through to complete custom configuration handlers which I struggled to find information on, but I cannot find any documentation regarding basic native .NET functionality of the configuration file...for instance, with regards to BCL configuration. I've gone through the machine.config.comments and the config.xsd files and it has provided a little insight but not enough to fully grasp the full potential of the config file. I've also trawled through everything I can find on Safari and only managed to come up with a couple of useful tidbits that I wasn't previously aware of but it seems this area of .NET is extremely poorly documented and unless you have a very specific purpose in mind, it's useless trying to find information on it.
View 1 RepliesI have an ASP.NET application. It resides within another ASP.NET application. I put my DLL in the other apps bin folder and have a subdirectory with my aspx files. I can't edit the main app's Web.config.
So where can I store configuration settings? For example, this is an app that will get deployed to various clients. I want to store the client name used for display in the headers and such. And the location of a logo file.
Is anyone aware of a way that I can set application (or user) level settings in a .Net application that are conditional on the applications current development mode? IE: Debug/Release To be more specific, I have a url reference to my webservices held in my application settings. During release mode I would like those settings to point to [URL] during debug mode I would love those settings to be [URL]

View 3 RepliesI'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

View 4 RepliesI have an application that I'm writing that needs to allow the user to be able to create templates and save them for how the applicaton will work. For instance, lets say I am provisioining mobile devices, and my application allows the user to create a template to only install "application1" on the device, with "application1" settings for "devicetype1". But then if the user has "devicetype2", he or she can select the template that they created to install the software for that kind of device. I've looked around and all I find is the .exe.config for read only application settings, and I have found the user.config for the read/write variables. But that won't work as my application could have several templates depending on what the user chooses. I'm looking to have my app have a "create template", "edit existing template, and"use existing template" buttons, and have my config file extension like *.ipx for example.

I have an .NET winforms application(A). I am calling another .NET exe(B) file from the winforms application. When executes, it throws the following error.
I haven't kept any configuration file for the second exe file(B).

Have you tried configuring ASP.Net Membership together with Enterprise Library DAAB? When I run my application it throws the following exception:
"Configuration system failed to initialize"
It seems that it encounters a problem that normally don't occur when I setup my configuration file.
