.net - Remove Configuration From VB2005 Application?
Jul 19, 2011
On the compile tab of the project properties: If you look at the configuration dropdown it typically shows debug/release/active/all. I attempted to add another option at one point in the build->configuration manager window, but decided that I didn't want to keep it. I removed it there, but it keeps showing up in the dropdown on the properties, as well as generates a folder by that name.
Does anyone know how to remove this? I can't find any "delete" or otherwise options.

I have seen a similar post under C++ but after reading that post and many others I have been unable to find a solution for VB VS2008.I have just ported one solution withseven projects from VS2005to VS2008. All seemed fine at compile time but when I attempted to step into the code in the debugger I received the following error:

Does anyone have or has anyone come across an in depth guide to the .net app.config? I'm having significant issues trying to find a definitive guide to this area of .net.I can already handle custom configuration sections, from basic key/value pair settings right through to complete custom configuration handlers which I struggled to find information on, but I cannot find any documentation regarding basic native .NET functionality of the configuration file...for instance, with regards to BCL configuration. I've gone through the machine.config.comments and the config.xsd files and it has provided a little insight but not enough to fully grasp the full potential of the config file. I've also trawled through everything I can find on Safari and only managed to come up with a couple of useful tidbits that I wasn't previously aware of but it seems this area of .NET is extremely poorly documented and unless you have a very specific purpose in mind, it's useless trying to find information on it.

I have an ASP.NET application. It resides within another ASP.NET application. I put my DLL in the other apps bin folder and have a subdirectory with my aspx files. I can't edit the main app's Web.config.
So where can I store configuration settings? For example, this is an app that will get deployed to various clients. I want to store the client name used for display in the headers and such. And the location of a logo file.

IE: Debug/Release To be more specific, I have a url reference to my webservices held in my application settings. During release mode I would like those settings to point to [URL] during debug mode I would love those settings to be [URL]

FilePath for the Current Application's Default Configuration .I am writing several DLL's that each have their on configuration file. I am trying to set the Application Default Configuration to be the DLL's Default Configuration - not the EXE's Default Configuration. How can I determine the pathfile for the current Application Default Configuration??I have tried using FILEPATH of SYSTEM.CONFIGURATION.CONFIGURATION but can not get the syntax correct.

I have an application that I'm writing that needs to allow the user to be able to create templates and save them for how the applicaton will work. For instance, lets say I am provisioining mobile devices, and my application allows the user to create a template to only install "application1" on the device, with "application1" settings for "devicetype1". But then if the user has "devicetype2", he or she can select the template that they created to install the software for that kind of device. I've looked around and all I find is the .exe.config for read only application settings, and I have found the user.config for the read/write variables. But that won't work as my application could have several templates depending on what the user chooses. I'm looking to have my app have a "create template", "edit existing template, and"use existing template" buttons, and have my config file extension like *.ipx for example.

I was studying visual basic 2008 and had reached almost 60% of it when I was told that my course curriculum included visual basic 2005. I will now have to reinstall visual basic 2005(.net framework 2) instead of visual basic 2008(3.5 .net framework). I was wondering- will it be completely different vb2005 and vb2008? I really wanted to stick to vb2008, I was getting the hang of it. Also, I was wondering, can I run my application vb2008 in .net framework? Is there any way around? Also, I used advanced installer to build a setup file for my application? Now the question is will the other computer(the one which will install from the set up) need .net framework of 3.5(since I built apps in vb2008)?

I have 3 components :
1.Manager : dll containing Iterface definition and other things
2.Implementation: dll containing Implementation of the Interface
3.Executable: (maybe this one could be a external application or another dll using the libraries)
I have particular methods (iside the interface dll file) that extract information of real Implementation from AppSettings keys in order to instance it using reflection. I use the Manager inside the Excecutable, but when I try to retrieve a especific key defined in "Manager.dll.config" (appSettings), the value returned is empty because the configuration file used is "Excecutable.exe.config" I need this configuration information in Manager config file because this Manager will be used from other programs and the configuration must be centralized into that config file to replicate the possible changes to every app calling this dll.How can I to specify that the ConfigurarionManager.AppSettings must extract values from manager.dll.config file?

I am creating a custom config section that will allow me to manage what ELMAH exceptions I want to ignore from my VB.NET/ASP.NET app. Here's my code. I made it easy to paste in a blank code file if anyone's up to the challenge of diagnosing the problem.
CODE:
When I execute this code:
CODE:
I get the error An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for IgnoredExceptionSection: Could not load file or assembly 'WEB' or one of its dependencies..
What boggles my mind is that this all works fine in my C# console test app after I convert the code from VB.NET using a web utility. However, when I paste the VB code from my web app into my VB.NET console test app, it doesn't work there, either, so it appears to be a C#/VB issue. What am I doing wrong here?

To restore an application from "minimize to system tray" mode to "Normal" mode (visible) from another application, I am using "Showwindow" method of "user32.dll". The API is working as expected i.e. displaying the application on Normal mode. Moreover, I want to remove that application's System tray icon as soon as its mode changes from "minimize to system tray" to "Normal".I had tried using "Shell_NotifyIcon" method of "shell32.dll" by passing "NIM_DELETE" & reference of "NOTIFYICONDATA" but no luck. The API method declaration is as follows: Shared Function Shell_NotifyIcon(ByVal dwMessage As UInteger, ByRef pnid As NOTIFYICONDATA) As Boolean.
