I have an array of structure and need to sort it using selection sort. I have to sort the array by the last name field in ascending order (A to Z). I dont understand how to use the selection sort method.

I have initialised my array as studentTestResults(4,1) However, I am looking for a sorting algorithm which will displays the students in order of combined results when the user clicks "sort results". I have had a hard look around the net, but finding a bubble sort for a 2D array is difficult, especially as my knowledge is minimal.

Here I am creating a temp single dimensional array, merging my 2d array into it, and then attempting to sort it by Rolls(N,1), which is a integer 1-6, Everything seems to be working right with the exception of this.

How would one specify a numeral sort based on the first character in the string? im aware that I am switching Rolls(n,1) and Rolls(n,0) information during the sort.

I am trying to communicate with an external device and i am trying to send a byte array to the external device via sockets but i am always getting a response the message size is too small so i am not sure what i have done wrong. Between the data type there should be no alignment present and all numbers are represented in little endian format. The char array is not null terminated as mentioned in the protocol specifications.

Also have a variable:
dim loopsize = 10
Then i do this:
for loop = 1 to loopsize
array(loop) = 5
next
What i wanted to do with this is from array(1) through to array(10), the values will be changed to 5. But vb will not allow this and crashes.
Why doesn't this work and how can i make it work?
I've learned about and understand HOW to do a bubble sort (theoretically), but I can't seem to wrap my head around how to use a bubble sort with array structures. I don't know much about stack overflow or how to check it. From my research the problem could be infinite recursion but I check for that and exit the sub.Here is the main code:

I'm using Visual Studio .Net 2008 on Vista. The goal of my program is to watch a directory, get file information, then sort them by thier date, and produce a updated text file. I can't seem to get my code to generate a list of files sorted by date. The code does produce a general list of files, however presently ordered in the directory. I also tried an alternate way of sorting the files by date by creating a string, removing the date using substring, then comparing the file dates using datetime.parse but it produces a exception error.[code]...

It works but the problem is the direction that the sort is happening. Everything is being sorted horizontally. I want to Sort it by the selected Column.

How does number 1 get sorted? Is it brings the newest 1 to top or keeps the old 1in the same index? In my original example (before sorting), MyArray(0) = 1 and after sorting MyArray(0) = 1.Is this the same original 1 or this another 1 (the newest one added to the array) moved to that position?In case the MyArray(0) = 1 after sorting should be MyArray(5) = 1 before sorting.

Using all these methods, how can I preserve the positions of similar number in the list? i.e. I want to bring the newest 'Similar' value to the top of the list.
I'm using a Listview in VirtualMode, so I can 'add' a lot of files almost instantly. A Listview in VirtualMode does not allow sorting, so I need to sort the data myself. View 1 RepliesI'm using the following code to read in a highscores file with the score written first and the player's name written to the next line, and then display the top 3 scores or fewer if there aren't 3 scores written to the file. A highscores display should have the scores sorted with the highest first so that's what this program tries to implement.
Array.sort() isn't doing a damn thing. In fact, the program's not even reversing the arrays like it should either. I've tested array.sort() this way with the names and scores arrays given explicitly and it works fine. I thought maybe it was still reading the data as string even though it's declared otherwise but it rounds off decimals when I change the array type to Integer so I'm pretty sure it's not that.
I have no idea why reading the data in from a file changes how it's sorted. My teacher didn't understand what was going on either. Does anyone know what's going on here?
