VS 2010 CPU Stress Test Program From Scratch?

i would like for my first project to be a CPU stress testing program (kind of like Core Damage or Intel Burn Test).I have no problem designing the form, but how and where should I start? I've done some searching, but haven't really found much. I think the reason for that is because nobody is really going to just give out source code for anything (which is completely understandable).
The main thing I would like to understand is what exactly makes the CPU work at 100%? And how could I design it to where it automatically determines the amount of cores/threads the CPU has, and utilize them 100% without having to open up one instance for each? Or is that jumping too far ahead?
EDIT > I know that I'll need to create some kind of loop for the CPU to process over and over until closed. I was thinking something along the lines of calculating Pi to 32 million digits or something like that.

I'm really new at programming and was looking for guidance about a project I have.I have to design a program that administers a multiple choice test to users. It delivers questions one at a time, from a predefined test file for the user to answer. It also marks and displays a score at the end of the test.
First, a QUESTION form verify's the user's registration status and access. The user provides a registration number and password and the program reads it from a "registration.txt" file to determine if the user is eligible to take the test (i.e., they are registered to take it). If it is correct, then the user presses the "Begin" button. If not, then a message appears and the student tries again to enter the information.
A read only text box will display the score at the end of the test (String with format correct/total) and the user can't retake the test.Second, a QUESTION form opens after clicking "Begin" on the entry form. The questions are going to be from a "testfile.txt" file.Each question is on multiple lines in the file. The first line consists of the question followed by possible answers followed by the correct answer ( 3 items are separated by "#"). The current question number and the question will be displayed in textboxes.'n'= possible answers; so each of the next 'n' lines provides a possible answer. All possible answers will be displayed in a Listbox.After the user selects an answer, an ''Enter'' button is pressed. This will submit and evaluate the answer. If nothing is selected a textbox should appear and display the error message (APPEARS ONLY IF THERE IS AN ERROR). After pressing ''Enter'', the next question is displayed.When all questions answered, the entry form is displayed again and displays the score.
I know that's a lot of information, but I wanted it to be really clear. Would it be best to cycle/loop the questions with a DoWhile loop? And how would I store the answers while the user goes through the test?

I would like to develop a very simple question-answer program whereby there is a user form with a label which contains the question, a text box where the user enters the answer and a button that the user clicks to change to the next question. This should be rather simple but I would like to have about 500 questions in the end (will be slowly adding more questions).

In class i saved my program in with load of other test programs for the same assignment and got everything mixed up i finally figured out what was what and loaded the program in Visual Basic. Now my program doesn't recognize one of my forms when i try to access the design view of it. I hit run for the hell of it and the program runs with errors of course but the form1 "the missing one" shows up with all the buttons etc and i can use it.

I have a 'health check' program that I have scheduled to run every 10 minutes. When it detects a problem, it sends a message to my cell phone.
Right now I have it checking databases by connecting to them, and trying to open them - that seems to work fairly well. I also have it checking web sites but all I'm doing to test them is[code]....

I want to build a simple chat app where people can go a url, type in a name and a message and click submit and it will basically show that message to everyone that is current connected.Firstly i would like to state i've had zero experience in sockets programming and the like. I'm simply a web 2.0 person building websites with css/html/js/ajax and backend i have asp.net on vb and sql server for database.So basically coming from an ajax background, i was wondering why do we even need to download any additional stuff to do web sockets? I mean in ajax i can simply create a asd.aspx file and use Response.Write(text) (text based on the input which are available through dissecting the url) and voila, the server side is done, all that's left is just to create new XMLHttpRequest and stuff in the client side.
So ok I'm not worried about the client side part of Web Sockets. but the server side part of web sockets is just difficult. so in the client side i have this: ws://localhost:8080/websocket. Is it true that it will work if is also an .aspx file as such: ws://localhost:8080/websocket.aspx ?I'm wondering so how do i continue from here? in Ajax i will supply parameters from client in the url as such: page.aspx?a=1&b=2 and do output in the server using Response.Write it's all clear but how do we do it in web sockets?

I want to know how I could create a bitmap from scratch with no images to start with.(I would say need. but than you would think this was for some sort of school project and it's not.)Basically, what I have is an image which is perfectly square in shape and has a black border with a black x going through it, what is not black is white. What I'm looking to know is how to take that small image (50x50 pixels) and make an image based upon those by placing them in X Rows of X amount. I am a EE graduate from about a year and a half ago working in the semiconductor industry as a hardware/test engineer. I wan't to learn VB to do lab level data test and acquisition. I am learning this in my free time at work and home, and I would be using VB to talk with different electronic equipment through GBIP to source, measure, and record data. Anyone have any good ideas of a good book for such applications?? I know there are a ton of books and courses out there, but 99.9% of that information is not going to be needed for my industry application. I also took a few C classes in college, and I have some experience with labview so I am not a total noob to programming. So if anyone has a good book, or refferences that would be really appreciated.Also what version of VB would you recomend me learning?

I need to set up a small program/script that can test simple web functionality.I already have a window that automatically load the right URL. What I need now is pointers to how I can make that program return a code if it can load the site, then automatically log in to the site and return a code if it is able or not to log in. Then log out, wait for five minutes and then refresh the site and run again.

We are migrating our applications to VB.Net 2008 from Classic VB and I need to create a base namespace and business layer. My method of approach is going to be to visit our top BA and identify the common areas of our (Fixed Income) company and try to form a decent inheritence model with as much of the code in generics as possible. As I develop code, I often want to unit test some of the building blocks of a class even if they are normally private. If my unit tests are inside the project, I can use "Friend" to accomplish this and still keep the functions private for normal use. But I would rather move my NUnit tests into their own separate project(s).

I have to write a program for a user to take a 20 question test (A, B, C, D). The users answers will be stored in an array and compared with a 2nd array that has the correct answers. Its then supposed to go to a 2nd form when you click show score, grade it, and display whether each answer was right or wrong. I'm missing something easy probably.

I'm currently starting a new job in which I will be working on some coding in the future and need some advice on some good places to start so I can learn this correctly. Essentially we need to bring VB4 code over to the new VB.net language and I will be tasked with this. The project consists of a large battery of tests for psychiatric patients consisting of mostly multiple choice questions presented one at a time - since VB4 isn't very compatible, I think I will create a new battery from scratch while using the old code as a reference point.
I started creating the code this weekend for fun and am really enjoying it. However, a huge problem has been the abandonment of control arrays in the new language... by the time I got to creating my first questionnaire I'm stumped and can't follow the old code. Clearly I'm not ready to tackle such a large project with no experience and need to start from scratch; who would have thought .
The reason why I'm here is not to ask you to help me with my work. What I'm wondering is if any of you have any cool advice of great places to start learning the language (books, websites, etc). The amount of literature is very overwhelming so I thought I would ask some people with experience for tips. If any of you have stumbled across learning material with emphasis on coding that would be useful in the design of questionnaires or multiple choice exams, it would be particularly useful.
So far my starting place is Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step with Michael Halvorson, it seems good at a glance in the sense that it couples theory with practice but I'm already sure I'll need a little more.
